Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots - Flashbacks

Published 2 May, 2008 Duration 2:55

Snake probably isn't the most stable of characters these days, he's been through rather a lot after all. These flashbacks are new though, are they conveying a hidden message to fans? We couldn't possibly speculate.

bit of a tease, doesn't look like a remake since he approaches that area by lift after encountering liquid in the original.

also what on earth is that bizarre smash brothers-esque bit!
  • FladgeMangle #6 4 years ago

On the one hand, Hideo Kojima seems to take himself way too seriously, then on the other he's quite clearly happy-go-bonkers.

The middle bit where it went mental - Those little black characters looked like they were from a "Game and Watch" olde worlde handheld.

Which if you think about it is the very essence of MGS...

    It's Smash Brothers, Widge.
  • Widge #8 4 years ago

oh its actual Smash Brothers is it! The new one?
  • Kiigan #9 4 years ago

Just looks like an ad for the anniversary box set no? With all the MGS games bundled together. And a teaser regarding MGS4 which features flashbacks to the earlier games etc.

No, because that last scene was definitely the opening area on Shadow Moses from MGS1 but using the MGS4 engine.

Either you revisit Shadow Moses as part of the plot of MGS4 (which actually would make sense given some of the hints that have been thrown around about it) or they really have remade MGS1 in the new engine. I'd consider that unlikely given the probable development effort needed though.

Actually, given the Assassin's Creed poster in the background, does that mean that you'll be revisiting some of Snake's old battles through some kind of virtual machine?

The poster is probably due to Ubisofts April fools joke where they had an Altair character model playing around in the MGS 4 demo.

    That was brilliance in directing!
  • DFawkes #13 4 years ago

That was awesome. I hope that's a map on MGO.

    May 1st!

    ...err, wait...

hmm the smash brothers scene was pretty cool, and the original PS version took me back...remember coming out of the water at the start, no had ever seen anything like this.

Bit of a big if but imagine the original redone with the MGS4 engine as an unlockable? (i konw konami are releasing a version with the first 3 games but for those with a PS3 which can't read PS games would be a little lost) please god make it so.....

For the first time ever, I actually now want a PS3.

Why are people even debating what the part is? I mean, it's obviously a playable flashback (he looks young in those scenes).
  • frazzle #19 4 years ago

i dont think its a flashback because one of the older videos theyve released (might be E3 '07) it shows a young looking snake in the middle east (disguising as a statue). A new enfant terible? or an even crazier plot twist? :p an theres also the rex/ray fight that looks like its at shodow mosses

    Wow, wow, wow.
    Buy, buy, buy!

    Hideo Kojima is so cool.
What will he do next, that crazy dude?
This game is what the PS3 is all about, no doubt.

  • chronom4n #22 4 years ago

i know that he says "do you like it?" but if sounds like "do you rack it?"
  • Davemanz #23 4 years ago

I'd say it's an area in MGS4, but it's clearly a younger Snake. I'd say it's just a flashback, but then why would they even mention being able to replay the original? Very curious.

In one of the previous MGS4 Trailers Solid and Liquid have a battle at Shadow Moses with Snake in Rex and Liquid in Ray. So chances are Snake will be returning to Shadow Moses in MGS4. This whole video is just a big joke though, meant to Demo what it could look like.
  • Zaltan #25 4 years ago

PS In America they just released a pack with MGS1/2/3 in for PS2.

"i dont think its a flashback because one of the older videos theyve released (might be E3 '07) it shows a young looking snake in the middle east (disguising as a statue). "

The video directly says "flashback" and you see Snake waking up from the flashback/dream in the chopper.

cant wait for this, still wish it was coming out on 360
  • CHAOS_BROON #28 4 years ago

it says is it possible to replay mgs!? which clearly puts into our minds "i want to play the old games in a new engine" kojimas a clever guy! i reckon he is (even if its not straight away) going to remake them all, hes not that harsh as to let down fans with a tease like that he clearly has something spectacular up his sleeve, hes a frickin genious. makes me so happy to own a ps3.
  • CHAOS_BROON #29 4 years ago

ps i hope it dosn't come out on 360 not to be harsh to 360 owners cos i own one too but sony really need to keep this exclusive for a while at least this is the biggest game to come out for ps3 then it'll be killzone2, i really want to see sony do well, the 360 has already with gates deep pockets racking up exclusive games, now sony should have a turn.
