waiting for it to release on origin,too...too bad that it isn't on Steam though. Really BF3 was the only reason for using origin so far and I would happily stop using it if there was another way. So basically EA forces me to and that is not a good way to strengthen the relationship to your customer,is it?
  • 8bitMofo #2 3 months ago

Got the demo, so how do I go about getting my Silver account upgraded to Gold?
  • DwarfyP #3 3 months ago

@Lunatic4ever Well you are coming back to it to get Mass Effect 3 so their system of doing exclusives IS a good way to strengthen the relationship with their customer.

Also, if you got it through STEAM, you would be a Valve customer not an EA customer.

Sounds like it is going to be just like the CG trailer of Mass Effect 2 , color me excited :-)

I found the demo quite tough to be honest and i was only playing on normal. Fairly dissapionted, something just seemed off with the sound. Sheppard and anderson are trying to escape to the normandy with 5 or 6 reapers destroying earth behind them and yet everthing just seemed so quiet. Voices just feel like they were phoned in by the actors (which probably happend actually)....
I love Mass effect and ill also buy this, but i guess i just wanted to be blown away.

Three more weeks of relentless pew-bait on EG. It can't go quickly enough.

  • Bremenacht #7 3 months ago

@its-LegendOfGamer - you're probably right. They seem to think that expensive visuals, a pile of pew, MP and a shag-a-shipmate quest is all that's needed to hook a modern audience. Judging by the excitement, they're probably right too.

Apart from visuals, almost everything that was of genuine quality about ME appears to have been tossed away in favour of cheap, common-as-muck thrills. 'Sweating your assets' they call it. See Assassin's creed for reference.

Is it a multiplayer demo? Otherwise I don't understand the point. It's the third game in a trilogy. Are there really a lot of people "on the fence" about this game? I'm definitely buying it, and I'm definitely not going to tease myself with a demo when the game is still a month out.
  • juliankennedy23 #10 3 months ago

I keep my copy of Dragon Age 2 next to my computer just to remind me not to pre-order this... must wait for reviews...
  • Collymilad #11 3 months ago

Wasn't Dragon Age II made by a different dev team than Mass Effect 1/2? Mean it has no bearing whatsoever on the quality of ME3.

Or am I wrong? (genuine question)

Just to add, and to give you something to actually have a good reason to neg: 90% of users on here are humourless idiots.

There ya go, enjoy that one.
  • Bluscope12 #12 3 months ago

@Collymilad You're correct, Bioware Edmonton handles Dragon Age, while Bioware Montreal has handled Mass Effect from #2 onwards, I think half of the Edmonton staff moved to the Montreal studio and the rest were new employee's :)

@8bitmofo - I would guess that will be when the EA servers are up for it. Last I tried the multi player it kept saying that the servers were down or unavailable.

@its-LegendOfGamer Some of them were, if you watched some of the dev diary things they mentioned it in one of them.
  • ocmerius #14 3 months ago

@its-LegendOfGamer I had the exact same thing. I found it much to quiet while everything around me was being destroyed. Made for a really weird experience. I hope this is solved in the final game.
  • Ace-Reject #15 3 months ago

I quite enjoyed the Demo to be honest.
  • peter1975 #16 3 months ago

    @Bremenacht Good 10 second reveiw.
  • peter1975 #17 3 months ago

Did ME3 really need to release a demo?!!
  • Bremenacht #18 3 months ago

@Collymilad Sorry mate! I genuinely don't like the way they've taken ME. Hope you enjoy it though.
  • yoomazir #19 3 months ago

@peter1975 Yes, it needed to release a demo, to make me save money.
  • strangerism #20 3 months ago

    disappointed by the demo :(((((((
  • strangerism #21 3 months ago

@its-LegendOfGamer I had the same feelings, the sound and lightning was so flat. but what worried me most was the rushed screenplay. I didn't feel any attachment with the unfolding events. compared to the unforgettable ME2 intro this is a big let down.
  • talideon #22 3 months ago

The demo was fun, a little easy if anything, though I was playing as a sentinel, so YMMV. Not at all impressed with the new HUD though. Gameplay blessedly didn't seem *that* different, but the biotic cooldown in the second half seemed to take *way* too long.
  • CaptainQuint #23 3 months ago

I like that you can now minimise the rpg elements; but I hate how close the over-shoulder camera is when negotiating the [invisible] corridor environment.

I'll probably play and complete the game just to complete the trilogy, but most likely via a rental.

Nice presentation, though, I give it that.
  • ShiroBen #24 3 months ago

Everything that was wrong with the demo can be summed up with this:

"If you pull this off I'm making you an honorary krogan!"

    1) Lack of respect for the series mythology and past events.
    2) Lack of respect for established characterisation.
    3) DEAR GOODNESS IT'S A TERRIBLE LINE.

Not that I had high hopes or anything. But it was even worse than I expected. Wrex is there, but it's not Wrex. Mordin is there but it is not Mordin. Kirrahe shows up and it's like, "Oh hey, remember this guy? 'Hold the line'? You loved that, right? LOVE HIM AGAIN!". The dialogue is atrocious, the storytelling clumsy and dull, there's no impact to anything, no tension or sense of threat, no emotion, nothing. It's just flat. Such an immense drop from ME2, I'm left thinking "What happened, what on earth happened?".

Also, no sniper rifle for an infiltrator? 'Long-range shotgun'? That can just feck right off.
  • Velios #25 3 months ago

@ShiroBen You're a frikkin idiot, that demo was a mere teaser of ME3 and the scenes were not in any sort of context.
  • Nephirion #26 3 months ago

    Mass Effect 3 .... Don't fear the reaper ...
  • Nithron #27 3 months ago

I'm actually much more creeped out by the uncanny valley vibes coming off that kid, than the giant cyborg monster it was staring at with its cold, dead eyes.
  • atrimus #28 3 months ago

    it's up on PSN too.

well, it is in the US anyway.
  • DRUNK3N-_-DRAGON #29 3 months ago

you know i have a ps3 and i aint played the first ME so why the fuck would i want 2&3? I WANT THE WHOLE PIE AND NOT JUST A SLICE!!

  • Unofficial #30 3 months ago

@Bluscope12 Actually that isn't true. BioWare Edmonton handles Dragon Age and Mass Effect, including Mass Effect 2 and 3. BioWare Montreal do also work on Mass Effect but it is primarily based out on Edmonton as that is where the majority of the team are.
  • Gunship #31 3 months ago

@Bluscope12 Yes there are two dev teams, but they both get their marching orders from the same bosses (the BioWare doctors and EA). So if they are told (as part of the grand strategy to attract a wider audience) to dumb it down to Gears of War-lite dating sim (just like the Dragon Age team were -evidently- told to) then they won't raise any flags of independence, or anything, I can assure you. As the demo shows.
  • cloudskipa #32 3 months ago

Demo was great! I've recently been playing the original Mass Effect in preparation for this game, want to do a ME1/2 run before I move on to this and I'm very impressed with the gameplay, tight control and feedback from the weaponry. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed bu the graphics though, the outdoor sections are impressive but indoors it looks inferior to even the first Mass Effect in terms of clarity, colour and texture detail. No doubt this is a ramification of this being a multi-platform release.

This is the game I buy a Kinect for though so It'll be a little while before I pick it up as I want the full experience.
  • guernican #33 3 months ago

Amazingly, it seems that some people are excited at continuing the series they've invested time and emotion into, some are having their interest piqued by the multimillion dollar marketing campaign, and some are relentlessly determined to hate it for not being true to its roots.

    Fuck me, who'da thunk?
  • Daz190uk #34 3 months ago

I didn't play all of the demo, only the opening level.

The sound is odd if you leave it set at high dynamic range but don't have the 5.1 kit to use it. Change the setting for TV speakers.

The comments about the dialogue and story telling are rubbish. I don't want to spoil anything but that little sub plot with the boy is done incredibly well. No emotional attachment? Rubbish.
  • FanBoysSuck #35 3 months ago

I really enjoyed the demo. Having just finished the arrival DLC on Monday you can tell there has been a lot of tweaks to the combat and it's much more fun.

The only gripe I have is that the graphics are slightly meh. After Dragon Age 2's hight texture pack and directX 11 stuff I was expecting a bit more. Hopefully they'll be adding in stuff around release time. It's not really fair to judge it in that respect going on just the demo I suppose ;)

Roll on the 9th of March!

Edit: Oh and it's more like an RPG again, with actual skill trees and everything. Nice to see Bioware listening to people let down by this aspect of the second game.

Got early access to the multiplayer portion with BF3 and I can safely say that after a tortuous hour of downloading the demo from XBLA it's glorious. In fact it's so good it completely overshadows the fact I've effectively spent £25 for early access to a demo. Don't get me wrong I like BF3 but this is something special. This could possibly be the game that unseats Gears as the primary focus of my online gaming
  • Djimm #37 3 months ago

I think the main point of the demo for the developers is to gather usage and balance data from the multiplayer portion. That's why they let people with silver XBLA accounts play the multiplayer.

Also, I noticed that it's in full 1080p (at least at output, don't know about rendering) which is pretty rare for a triple A release (they're mostly 720p). Will be interested to see if this is the case on PS3 as well.
  • irrational-gaz #38 3 months ago

@Djimm I imagine it will be the me3 engine was initially tested on ps3.
  • cloudskipa #39 3 months ago

@Djimm All games output at 1080p if you have that setting enabled due to the internal scaler so I don't see why this game should be an exception... But there is no way is this rendering at 1080p though.
  • irrational-gaz #40 3 months ago

@Gunship and everyone else moaning about how linear they think ME3 will be You sir/madam are a moron/s and I've heard enough of you and your ilk condemning ME3 with unsubstantiated comments about it being pared back.

ConSider the climax to all your favourite scifi movies or series you ever watched:

    Starship Troopers
    Star Wars
    Return of the Jedi
    Outland
    Firefly/Serenity
    Deep Space Nine
    Farscape
    Voyager
    Babylon 5
    BSG
    Silent Running
    Event Horizon

What do they all have in common? Could it be a climactic battle featured in the finale? Yes? Exactly!

judging the entire game based on an edited introductory level demo and moaning about the lack of deep story telling is just ludicrous. Furthermore this the third and final act of this particular story. A story that has been building towards a climactic showdown. So why on earth would you be looking to add yet more exposition? This is where you reap the consequence of the decisions you've made throughout the course of the previous two installments. Each descision you make during this play through will have to be immediately apparent or resolved within the course of this titles duration as there isn't going to be any more. As a result on the surface of it course it won't feel as rich the previous two. perhaps instead of moaning your ass off you should start learning C++ so you can wow us with your gloriously uncompromising vision of the future?
  • strangerism #41 3 months ago

@irrational-gaz it's a demo yes but netherless it is still a benchmark for the game. let's put it this way. had I played the ME2 demo (in the case it existed) with the just normandy level and this ME3 demo with the earth level. Well my conclusion would be that ME2>ME3. I know it's a silly conclusion but thats what my beatbox tells me right now.
