What is this, Call Of Mass Effect? Are we going to see something other that combat at any point?

this is looking increasingly bad. a fucking Thresher thing.....on Earth? Pullleeeaze dont tell me that this is how the reapers are beaten?

@Madder-Max I agree but doesn't it look far bigger than a Thresher Maw.

Wouldn't it be far cooler if it was arachni!
  • Centrifugal #9 5 months ago

    @MadderMax

They're not on Earth. It's Tuchanka and that's the legendary collosal Thresher Maw which has been foreshadowed in ME2's Cerberus Daily News, and has been rumoured to devour entire Krogan clans at once in the past.

    Shepard is Muad'Dib.
  • Mr.Spo #10 5 months ago

That's not Earth, it's Tuchanka. Clearly.

I am a little alarmed at how scripted everything is. I can understand the focus on combat videos from a publicity stand-point, though.

    @jonbwfc

Bioware are just showing combat at the moment. Story trailers will be very close to release date. I don't want any spoilers and I'm sure you don't either!
  • spekkeh #12 5 months ago

(although I do think it looks good).
Shepard's running a bit strange though. He's waggling, because of his heavy armor probably, but still able to run 88 miles an hour.

I wonder what kind of lame laser beam that was which couldn't even cut through flesh. Easily outmatched by contemporary weapons.... and they're supposed to be this superior master race? :p
  • SirRodSpode #14 5 months ago

That reaper is a girly blouse. The only reason it's not dead yet is because Chuck Norris is busy taking a dump.
  • Centrifugal #15 5 months ago

Incidentally, remember that the Reaper survives the attack; the Thresher drags it under the sand and then some time later you hear laser fire beneath your feet, and the Reaper rises once more.

And this is the smallest version of a Reaper.

Why exactly are people expecting Bioware to show trailers of people talking to each other?
  • Jonny5Alive7 #17 5 months ago

Wow, that looks awesome. Although it does look as you can just sprint to a checkpoint to trigger a cutscene and progress.

I'm keeping faith that there will still be plenty of conversations to be had with people. If they released a trailer of just people chatting it would be a bit rubbish, so its fair enough that they're showing action.
  • kassmageant #18 5 months ago

combat seems more visceral, sure, but so it seemed in dragon age 2 trailers, and... god, please, let me be wrong :|
  • The-Bodybuilder #19 5 months ago

I am shocked and amazed that in the 3rd and final entry of a trilogy, in which the entire galaxy of aliens fight against a legendary race of machines whose intention is to wipe out all organic life, that there is action in it.

I mean, I'm expecting bioware to post vids of shepherd sorting it all out over a game of poker, with massive conversation-selection points too. :/

    Ugh.

It's just Gears. Gears with less biceps. And no sense of humour.

I wonder if they've they've done the story yet, or if they're too busy doing all the awwsum bits.
  • Inmediasress #22 5 months ago

Honestly I almost tought I saw another trailer for MG revengance or whatever the name is. Really high on the cheese factor.
No doubt it will get hyped to high heavens of course, 10/10 no doubt.
Still aiming for the COD numbers it seems tough it does look more like a Gears clone.
The only thing that was missing was the big anime sword but then we got that covered with the lightsaber pocket knife thingy.

    That wasn't a Thresher Maw.
Also, good story telling is a given in this series. Good combat, that isn't.

Edit - I'm probably wrong, it probably is a Thresher Maw. Although as other people have said, that doesn't look like earth.

oh go on then... Geared Mass Call of Battlefield in Three Effects,er,3
  • ruisranne #25 5 months ago

Man, I guess I have to play Mass Effect 1 through once more as I have a day off tomorrow...But I just can't find the energy for ME2, finished it twice (finished the first one 8 times), but there's just nothing that makes me want to explore ME2 again. I just would like to have a well thought of character and decisions to ME3 but it starts to feel like I shouldn't bother, as it seems there's not much RPG left in it... I really hope for the best though...
  • Slipstream #26 5 months ago

@WeakOrbit It looks more like them than a Threasher maw. Besides I don't know about you but they owe me, big time.

I've got mixed feelings about Bioware at the moment(because of DA2 I liked ME1 & ME2) I can't see the game being utterly combat orientated as people fear even that so called game DA2 had a fair bit of talking from what I seen of it. Though it looks like you can sprint past enemies to trigger a checkpoint, this seems familiar.....

Dammit, I really loved ME1, got bored in ME2 and a bit disheartened at the dumbing down of everything and I'm having a really hard time getting enthusiasm for 3.

It looks awesome (to the point people are mocking it, go figure) but as they've already stated that basically nothing you did in ME1+2 mattered and presumably this will be even more dumbed do- uh, 'stream-lined' with a bigger focus on combat (never the series' strongpoint) I'm getting concerned.

My main worry is that the enemy is too big. I mean, in ME1 it took the entire combined fleets of every species to kill ONE reaper with massive losses and now there's hundreds of them. Everywhere.
Anyone else seeing "use a computer virus" being the win button? You can't actually fight this bad guy...

I'm really hoping I'm proved wrong, I want this to be epic. I just don't want all flash and no substance.
