Manhunt 2 - Trailer

Published 7 February, 2007 Duration 0:37

Manhunt, we're sure, needs no introduction. Media bad-boy and Jack Thompson's worst nightmare, the original saw many questioning its validity. Never ones to shy away from controversy, Rockstar are back for more.

So that trailer was really informative. Like the new graphical tricks and the gameplay looks astounding!

    Wouldn't call this a trailer.
What I would call it would be a teaser.

Anyways, the reverse survival horror game returns.
I think the Wii version might actually outdo the other versions when it comes to the gruesome killing. These guys might think of uses for the control setup which I very much doubt Iawata would've thought of when Nintendo made their 'for all the family' console.

Interactive prison rape scene would be neat.

Other than that, there's absolutely no reason to bring this turd back.

I hate Jack Thompson as much as the next gamer, but is a game about a snuff movie pushing it a little? I mean, I don;t say this just because games are games, I would feel the same way if this was a movie. I've never actually played Manhunt, so maybe I shouldn't comment, but it just doesn;t seem right to me.

@CitizenGeek: have you ever gone onto a discussion forum for movies and asked if snuff movies are pushing it a little?

not attacking your comment or anything, but i don't understand why the games industry gets so much scrutiny for this kind of stuff when the film industry can go right ahead. the game is going to be rated 18's, just like a snuff DVD would be rated 18's.

just like film versions of snuff, this is all fake, and Rockstar put the violence into a setting that's very unreal compared to the film counter-parts, which (imo) offsets the argument that this is interactive whereas film isn't.

@CitizenGeek & projectmayhem: OK, firstly, where did the 'snuff movie' reference come from? Manuhunt has got nothing to do with that. Secondly, snuff movies are abhorent and entirely illegal. I do get your point in that a fictional snuff movie would still be quite horrible, but not illegal... and I agree. This is how it should be.

Finally, the first Manhunt was a great game.... a bit slow to get started so I think most people got bored after the first few levels and stopped playing, but once u get the guns it really becomes quite fun to play.

There are a number of games that require you to do similar 'stealth kills' and manhunt just took it to another level of gore... movies do the same thing all the time and I agree, movies like SAW are not for everyone but many people still find them entertaining. And SAW is far more violent than manhunt was... but no protests or bans or anything...? Therez no justice in the world, I tell u...

@L42yB Erm, Manhunt was basically about making snuff movies??? (albeit unwillingly...)

Definition of a snuff film (from dictionary.com):

"Slang. a pornographic film that shows an actual murder of one of the performers, as at the end of a sadistic act. "

Didn't see any porno in manhunt... did I miss it?

What is this 'dictionary' you speak of? The fount of all things true and virtuous offers a compromise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snuff_movie
  • projectmayhem #16 5 years ago

@L42yB: snuff isn't naked sexy people murdering each other... it's considered some kind of fetish. and yes, you can go and buy perfectly legal DVD's of snuff (all performance and trickery, nothing real) in your local porn emporium.

my point (re-iterated by rockstar today) was simply that you don't hear people moaning about the DVD's, which are just as (if not more) graphic then the game, because people accept that they're rated 18's. granted, you won't see them on the top shelf at HMV, but that's another kettle of fish.

It's funny that people don't think much about slaughter in the dozens or hundreds when playing Half Life 2 or any other PG-13 game.
But when a game suggests that all this massive killing and the popularity thereof might be a dark side of a gamer. And that this game is built around testing that dark side of a gamer, and reflects it. It gives the voice in the gamer's heads that shout's 'Awesome!' at a Resi4 shoot-in-the-knee-suplex-head-explode a literal voice. It also lets the gamer choose between the easy, less graphic safer kills or the risky highly graphic gore kills, with no benefit other then a higher score.
Then then it's the game that is sick and twisted, rather then the part of anyone's mind that it reflects.

Aww, I am quite excited for this game. This teaser was upsetting. Drug filled normal guy turns into crazy killer? I hope so.

Any game/game video that spawns discussions about snuff movies just cannot be a good thing for the image of video games in general.

    imho
