Max Payne is NOT a skinhead, why try and turn one of my favourite video game characters into a cliched Jason Statham. Oh, and Sau Paulo.. Really?
  • FearCrads #2 9 months ago

Look forward to seeing how this turns out.
  • G-Lord #3 9 months ago

Not really impressed. Let's just hope the game gets some Rockstar polish.
  • darleysam #4 9 months ago

Still going with Payne and Lynch.
  • bad09 #5 9 months ago

If it wasn't for the music and I would never know that was a Max Payne game. That's not a good thing is it?

Still I love 1&2 so I'm in for better or for worse.
  • JayG #6 9 months ago

I loved the first 2, but this looks more like GTA. Hope it still has the comic cut scenes and humour from the first 2.

    Looks really good.

Pity that they dropped the "photo-realistic" faces that were in the previous games ;)
  • edgar-pr #9 9 months ago

I was sceptical for a long time about how Max Paynes new image would fit into the new instalment. But after seeing the newest screenshots and seeing that you would infact see the old trench coat wearing Max Payne alongside the new run down one I was actually very much looking forward to it.

But after seeing this footage it seems slightly disappointing. Graphics wise it needs some serious polish because its not looking too pretty at the moment. Lets hope all is well when its released.

So where is the Max Payne 3 trailer? All I see is a trailer of a generic shooter.
  • dr_faulk #11 9 months ago

Should have stuck him in Croyden.
  • MMMMMM7 #12 9 months ago

Looks good and seems to be story driven. If the story could have
nonlinear twists that would the best thing for a next generation
    Max Pane game.
  • Liquidoodle #13 9 months ago

Currently wondering if the Inner Circle will be in this and if it will have any reference at all to the previous two games. I would have expected the third instalment to be Max bringing them down, shame. Sounds like they decided to kill Mona off completely then?

    @ dr_faulk - Max Payne 3 : Max Takes On The Rioters ;)

i hope they use the newspaper story board thing again, it made the first game.

Cut all the 'Max Payne isn't this/Max Payne isn't that' bullshit. Max Payne is whoever and wherever Rockstar want him to be. If they weren't being critisised for changing things they'd be being critisised for peddling out the same old games and lacking imagination. There's nothing here to suggest it's going to be anything other than another brilliant game from Rockstar.
  • jamieleng #17 9 months ago

I'm enjoying the trailer for 'Max on Fire' a Tony Scott game. Now, where's the one for Max Payne 3?
  • GuiltySpark #18 9 months ago

Are you people mental? That looked awesome. It's still Max Payne, clearly. Setting it in New York has been done, why retread old ground? Max seems the same, maybe even more fucked up than usual, and that can only be a good thing.
  • mukki #19 9 months ago

    wa what? rockstar?

love the stereotypical ransom note... location, accents, add more here
and yes crew cuts and beards are in but...
    so far not that interested
  • looy1 #20 9 months ago

Hangover 2 reference when shaving his hair?
What it reminded me of anyways :)
  • God_Octo #21 9 months ago

I haven't really played Max Payne, but from what little I know, this trailer looked totally different. I didn't get a Film Noire feel at all, and I sort of miss Payne's Bumface. Maybe its a little early though- Rockstar do like to drip feed info to us, so it might improve later.
  • NunianVonFuch #22 9 months ago

Looks more like a generic Rockstar title rather than a Max Payne game. So it should sell bazillions and hoover up awards. I'd have preferred Remedy to have developed it, but since I thought it wasn't ever going to happen I'll take what I can get!
  • Nithron #23 9 months ago

Are people forgetting that Max Payne's look changed significantly between 1 and 2 as well?

They also totally changed the bullet time mechanic.

So are you annoyed that they've changed it from the first game, or that they've changed it from the previous time they changed it (which seems to be okay now, retrospectively)?
  • Samirnasirov #24 9 months ago

Generic Rockstar? This is gonna kick ass.
  • StolenGlory #25 9 months ago

Ah, so I see that some folks on the EG forum to have jumped on the 'Payne & Lynch' train, completely disregarding the developer pedigree.

I thought that such obvious and ignorant reactions were limited to the likes of N4G and NeoGaf.

    I expected EG'ers, I expected better.
  • silversun #26 9 months ago

The music in the trailer sounds right , the voice sounds right.
Lets hope the game is a great game, it really could go either way at this point.
  • jonc24 #27 9 months ago

It looks like it could be good but as someone else commented, it's very similar to Man on Fire.
  • Code_R #28 9 months ago

It doesn't look quite right, but that voice and that theme sell it to me.

Max Payne 1&2 back at the time were some of the best looking PC games of their era, this doesn't look very polished visually.
  • DrPhil #29 9 months ago

Tip: Make it feel more like Max Payne by watching the trailer in slow motion.
  • Negotiator1 #30 9 months ago

Another winner for Rockstar, but why is Max turning into Bruce Willis?
  • ChocNut #31 9 months ago

I'm going to have to hold back on commenting until closer to release date. Hopefully it's midsummer during the drought.
  • rottingyoda #32 9 months ago

Loved the first game. Actually, it's one of the most memorable and most replayed games I've ever owned. Never played the second. I just hope the new game keeps the cheesey lines and meloncholic atmosphere from the first game(at least thats how I remember it). I won't pre-order just yet but it's on my 'keep a close eye on' list.
  • Phantom_Dynamite #33 9 months ago

I loved max payne the music still gives me chills

Well, I am happy the developer is trying for something new instead of doing the same game. Certain elements you would like to continue and certain gameplay mechanic but going radical on the character isn't a bad thing if the character is fleshed out right. I will have to say that the plot has way to many similar themes that are similar to "Man on Fire" like someone else stated so I am hoping for a game that diverges from the movie.
  • overcorpse #36 9 months ago

"I'm going to have to hold back on commenting until closer to release date. Hopefully it's midsummer during the drought."

i think "MARCH 2012 Pre order now" kind of gives it away.Meh.
  • spudsbuckley #37 9 months ago

    Yuck.

I loved the first two but this looks utterly generic. Put it back in New York and make it noire-y please.

I'm not interested in Max shooting brown people in a favella.
  • fisherpot #38 9 months ago

Fast and furious 5........ Vin Diesel and Rock ?
  • JorgeLuisBorges #39 9 months ago

    Are people completely mental?
  • SEVQA #40 9 months ago

I'm sorry nothing of that looked in slightest Max Payne! If this was a batman or superman franchise and was changed in this manner the devs would be lynched. To me it looks like a completely different game, and who knows might be a good one at that.
  • Harmonica #41 9 months ago

    Not Remedy don't care.
  • womenjordanheels #42 9 months ago

I think they also entirely change the bullet time mechanic. http://www.jordanheelsforwomencheap.org

Someone should fire the people responsible for R* shaders. Everything looks always matte and uniform without proper shadows.
  • kangarootoo #44 9 months ago

Story seems Man on Fire inspired, just a little.

Looks interesting. I'm a huge fan of Max Payne, but I'm not going to dismiss this on the basis that it has made some changes. If its fun, its all good.

I wish one day a game developer just goes completely nutso on a big franchise plot e.g. the whole of Max Payne 1 & 2 was a drug-induced dream and the 'real' world turns out to be one of the incidental TV shows they showed in those games. Maybe Half Life 3 could become the delusion of a Reagan-era survivalist nut on a rampage against corporate America. Basically anything other than the tired ideas that game (and Hollywood) writers are churning out these days. Even Max Payne 1 & 2 were parodies of themselves and noir films, this trailer leaves me cold so far. Needs more whimsy and insanity, maybe they should get Suda 51 to consult.
