Still, since Haze has turned out to be arse, this had better be good. After owning a PS3 for ages now I really need an excuse to turn it on... At the moment it's the most expensive paperweight I've ever owned.

It's not so they can spare on colours, they don't actually pay the colours they put in the game you know? :/
I think it looks damn nice. The hot colours really gain a much more strong presence when they're used in the middle of the grey palette. Cheers for the artwork and photography direction.

Amazing looking stuff.

I reckon Killzone 2 will simply be a very good FPS similar to Call of Duty 4 in a different environment and that is no bad thing unless you are one of those people who are asking for the world.

But who in their right mind thinks this will stand up to Gears of War 2, coming out at about the same time? Say what you want about Epic, but technically they're the leaders.

I mean this far into development - and after being developed for so long - why use pre-rendering at all? If it is pre-rendered as even that bit doesn't look like it is doing anything a current engine couldn't muster.
That said - I think this is looking like one of the best reasons to own a PS3 - and fingers crossed the gameplay is as compelling as the visuals.
edit - FK me, that Quake wars advert is annoying how it keeps covering the comments while you write them!

Evidently Killzone 2 will possess a much better and more fulfilling story than Gears of War.

Actually, colours DO cost in games. The payoff is that a reduced colour pallet in textures means that the compression levels can be higher, meaning that more textures can be used concurrently and/or performance can be improved

That would help within a single texture but when you are talking about hundreds of textures you're making a saving are you? For example there is nothing stopping them using purple texture for some stuff as they would take up as much space as grey ones for the same object.
Using colour for artistic/game effect is a decent idea in principle. I'd like to see more of the different game levels to make a call on how successful it is overall but it helps provide distinction/contrast between friend and foe. It can also enhance spot effects like the lighting effects (e.g. light streaming down from ceiling in the linked gameplay movie) and explosions.

Alot of very negative comments in this section, why so? This game along with Resistance2/MSG4 makes me want a Ps3.

If you get over that and look objectively at the game on it's own merits now I think it's looking promising with a lot of potential.
Gears One didn't bring anything to the FPS genre - what with it not actually being one

"muscle men with tiny heads" is right on the button.
But i loved Gears o Whores and was apparently one of the only people who loved the first killzone. (despite the gammy framerate and hilarious rag-dolling)
I personally will not run out to get a machine for this but I am keen to play. Guerilla have a top crew.
