Not a bad way to get your juices flowing for a bit of tactical slaughter, this. Like an anti-Churchill. Now, excuse us while we do a little roar. Grrrr.

Anyway I hope this game is good, pre-ordered from shopto for the very reasonable price of £31.99.

Ever seen footage from real war situations like Iraq or Afghanistan? It might sound idiotic but it’s quite hard to put yourself in front of people out to kill you with a different attitude…

Seriously man. You can do stuff like this realtime if you don't have to process AI and user input along with it. It's the reason in engine cut scenes have started looking so good. A cut scene is simpy an on rails 3d movie. As a result you can swap in more detailed models and scenes (notice the helghast leader's face is pretty much shown in isolation all the time).
Ignore Moonprinces claim that the actual game looks better than the cut scenes. It doesn't. It looks as good as COD 4 and runs at a solid clip most of the time (yes I have played proper demos of it).

I was hoping for real-time cinematcs in KZ2. This is a very nice CG intro though.

Oh Beano - see what you are saying there. It looks like a tall order but then who would have thought they could fit GTA:SA on one DVD for PS2?? It is amazing what they can do these days

And you would be the first to call someone up on basing opinions on vids contrary to what people who have actually played the game say.

Previews of the game clearly state that Run and Gun will mean you don't get as far as taking a tactical approach. I'll reserve judgement until I play myself, but indications from people who have played the game do not hold up your argument at all.
A couple of obvious elements which make the game more tactically paced. Slower movement speed, cover system and targeting / recoil more on the realistic side than many "run and gun" games.
A video of someone playing the game on an easy difficulty as a run'n'gun game does not make it a run'n'gun game.

as for all the haters you can have ya points now chances are your'll all be buying this game yourself come feb because no matter what you say think or do you are wrong.
the game plays excatly as EG says it does tactical and awesome.

Then why did you claim the actual gameplay looked better than the cut scene animations?

Halo absolutely does get more tactical as you go up difficulty levels. You have to think a lot more about the best weapons to use against specific enemies for example - where on lower difficulties you could just plough in with what you have to hand a lot of the time. It's a lot of what singles out Halo as better than the majority. However your movement in Halo is still a lot to do with it as you can still charge around- run and gun - the tactical choice is in weapons and how you move.
If movement is slower then not charging out of cover and using a cover system well becomes a bigger part of the gameplay and thus more tactical in the way you approach a situation.
The health system in this also lends itself to a slower more considered approach as you die more quickly under fire - again not an attribute of a run and gun FPS.
What shooter would you say is tactical and what makes it so? I'd say the Rainbow Six series was a good example and a lot of that is to do with features we see here - maybe not to the extent of RB6 but leaning more towards that than Run and Gun. E.g. Cover system, low health, more realistic weapon recoil and slower movement.

Was in the first game and the PSP outing as well. Might have something to do with the fact that Starship troopers was created by a Dutch director. There's also not that many games in which the lead character is called "Jan"...

The game has "somehow gained the billing" from people who have played the damn game. You are basing your conclusions on a few vids you've seen - specifically the new gameplay vids EG have chucked up in the last week or so. Where they have cherry picked and packed up exciting bits rather than the full flow of a level.
A cover system makes a lot of difference as it is designed to be used. Making it easier to pop in and out of cover to get your shots off. That is a big difference to non cover system shooters where you use standard controls to look round corners exposing a lot more of your character than you might expect.
These quotes are previews from several people who have played the game ...
"Instead, you swiftly settle into the rhythm of the game - sweeping and clearing entrenched areas, pressing forward one piece of cover at a time. Shooting on the fly is a good way to waste ammo, and most of your kills come from short, controlled bursts taken down the iron sights view from a safe vantage point. Finding these strategic sanctuaries becomes increasingly tricky as the game evolves, but that's all part of the challenge."
"its weak running and gunning options forcing you to find a space and make use of the iron sights, while the slightly slow turning and lengthy reload animations draw you into a game that plays out at a tenser, more measured pace than COD or Halo."
"Throw in a cover system - in single-player only - that doesn't take the player out of the first-person perspective, but instead relies on a surprisingly cinematic lean-and-peak mechanic, and you have a seriously tactical, if traditional shooter starting to find its feet."

No one is claiming its a high end tactical shooter - it never claims to be and no one has said so - it's just got a more considered approach to run'and'gun shooters.
I've detailed plenty of reasons why this is the case but all you've got is a video of someone not playing like that because it's short clips. I've seen vids from GamerSyde - which were subsequently pulled - which show a nicely tactical, non-run and gun approach to a level.
Hype is about exaggerated claims made by the devs. I'm looking at multiple views from independent journalists.

There are obviously going to be shades between an full on run and gun arcade shooter and a full on team based realistic tactical shooter.
If you look back through my posts the claims about it being tactical are largely preceded by the word "more". As a relative term not a defining one.
In my understanding/definition - and others - a more considered approach is more tactical. That's obviously not your understanding of the word - so we're arguing a lot over semantics - though I guess there are still differences of opinion.
We shall see when the game releases.

"Ok I give up, the hype shield is far too strong for any kind of sense to penetrate."
Yes some people are hyped. That is wrong. To assume the best just on a trailer (which could just be showing the best bits) is in essence naive. The reverse however, to assume the worst, is downright cynical.
Take information from places you can trust. Eg, the forums about the beta went mental because people loved it. Gamers, you know those people that don't really care what platform it appears on, as long as they enjoy playing it?

In any case, two characters in works of fiction that share an extremely tenuous connection and just happen to have the same name doesn't mean one was 'inspired by' the other. It's just a coincidence. And the fact that Verhoeven is dutch probably doesn't matter either. If we're going to have conspiracy theories, let's at least have them over things that matter...
Nice vid though. They got the feel of Viseri's rhetoric just right, although I do agree that making the Helgast seem an invincible foe just before you're going to mow them down by the battalion load does rather seem incongruous.
Enough of this. Bring on the game then we all have something concrete to form an opinion on.

Of course it matters!
But seriously, basing a character on another character is different from giving a character the same name as another one as a sort of tribute. I for one would be surprised if the original Starship Troopers movie didn't influence them in picking the name. And I don't really see what would be wrong with that TBH.

It's because of all the hot, steamy man-sex they have between cut-scenes. Duh. Because apparently the future is devoid of females. *didn't see a single one*
