talk about generic shooting. and an annoying woman screaming about protecting a bus. and why does Cole need to hit the machinegunner between the metal covers? shouldnt the whole platform conduct electricity pretty darn good?

will stay far away from this.
  • MyPointIs #2 3 years ago

This looks fustrating, tedious and confusing.

Edit: I explain a little better, not to annoy fanboys. The other videos look better. Technically is an impressive game. But the shooting *gameplay* shown on this one video sucks, it put me off buying the game.

One look at the eurogamer profile of the first two posters reveal that there is not a single PS3 game in their game collections.

I, on the other hand, do have a PS3, and I cant wait for this. Looks great, and lots more fun than GTAIV.
  • cyacomini #4 3 years ago

We dont all keep our profiles up to date dude.

    I've a PS3 but only have 360 stuff in my profile - doesn't make me a liar ;)
  • MyPointIs #5 3 years ago

Exactly. I own all consoles too.

Your logic is sound though. Someone disagrees with you on some Ps3 title, therefore they MUST be xbots. Way to go man.

You liked the other vids tho!! Why let one vid put you off buying it?
  • MyPointIs #7 3 years ago

There's something wrong with the combat. It might be the bland feeling when hitting the enemies, the lack of feedback when you actually killed them, how samey all electricity bolts look, or the fact that it looks like you have to learn by heart where they spawn to play it well. Or it might be something else. I don't know.
  • zuljin #8 3 years ago

Well I have to say - one thing which I'm really liking is that you don't have to respawn ages back when you die. Seems like a little thing, but really stopped me from enjoying GTA IV.
  • kangarootoo #9 3 years ago

It doesn't help to show the gameplay off in the best light that the person playing it seems a bit cack handed.

I don't mean that in a catty way, and I realise that its not an excuse if the game is hard to control. However, in this case the player seemed oblivious to any sniper fire from the rooftops, despite the tracers showing the origin of the gunfire quite clearly. And I was looking at the aiming and thinking "either the aiming system is awful, or the player is a really terrible shot".

Its a hard call to make. I've not seen anything that convincesd me that the game wouldn't be fun to play. The combat does look repetitive, but so does the combat in Crackdown and that was ace.

    @MyPointIs
"lack of feedback when you actually killed them"
Maybe they need an indication top left about some XP you just earned ...

"or the fact that it looks like you have to learn by heart where they spawn to play it well"
And perhaps a minimap bottom right which would show you where bad guys were ...

Actually I'm not a huge fan of on rails bits of shooters like this. So this trailer is a little bit meh - love the climbing aspects though.

    Talk about generic fanboy posting.
Maybe the gunner has rubber boots and gloves or grips and the only way to get him is through the small gap? Maybe the woman sounds annoying because she's in a PS3 game and not a xbox game?
sn3jk I sincerely hope you stay as far away from this as humanly possible.
  • Kenshin001 #12 3 years ago

Looked pretty awesome to me. Already have it pre-ordered so can't wait.
  • sn3jk #13 3 years ago

hahaha sorry boys i play my ps3 more then my xbox360, this has nothing to do with fanboyism.

Puppyfiddler, maybe its magic. And i sincerly hope you grow up :)
  • RESIDENT_nEVILe #14 3 years ago

Could be mindless fun. May be the feed, but the frame-rate looks a bit iffy.
  • Kenshin001 #15 3 years ago

What does generic shooting even mean? He's shooting electricity out of his hands. That's about as far removed from generic shooting as you can get. Oh look, Cole is generically running, he's using his feet. How boring, he should run on his knees or hands or something.
  • SteveB #16 3 years ago

    Prototype looks better.
  • patchbox360 #17 3 years ago

this game would make the 360 cry rings of red
  • penhalion #18 3 years ago

I rememeer the first time I saw this game and commented that the hero seemed stupidly under powered for the foes he was facing. While I will probably be getting this. It is disappointing to see that this original observation seems to be totally correct.
  • DrDamn #19 3 years ago

    @Penhalion
I didn't watch the whole vid so maybe I missed something. He seemed to be able to one hit most of the minion fodder - what did he seem under powered for?
  • Olemak #20 3 years ago

Underpowered? The guy flicks out chain lightning like popcorn, dude. Most of the baddies take one hit and are gone.

When I first saw this game, my thoughts were the exact opposite of "underpowered" - I thought it looked like a buttonmasher hack-and-shoot, with insanely overpowered moves just spilled out whatever the player did. Now I see that it is actually a bit more balanced, he has to work a little to progress through the game; theres actually some gameplay here, not just spamming the same buttons all the time.

Definately getting this, been interested for a while and now I am psyched. Looking forward to the review.
  • 3william56 #21 3 years ago

Jeez - that was depressing. Al the worst of GTA in one vid. I thought Naughty Dog would be more original than that. Utterly hate idiotic "gauntlet" levels where you have no choice but be shot from all sides (with peashooters) until you memorise the location of the baddies, or plough through via checkpoints and autosave. And an NPC that forces you to do something stupid. Like driving into a massive grunt p*ssing match. The great thing about sandbox games was you are meant to have choice, and make smart ways of winning. This looked pish. Hope it's not representative.
  • Goodfella #22 3 years ago

    @3william56

Do some research before you post, this game is made by Sucker Punch (Sly Cooper - PS2) not Naughty Dog.
  • SleepyGlenn #23 3 years ago

Those glow-ey robots stood there calmly to watch them chat and went mental when they stop talking?

    Well at least they're polite.
  • Sulphur #24 3 years ago

3william56: only it's not Naughty Dog, it's Sucker Punch. That said, I agree with your points about gauntlet missions and being hemmed in, in what's supposed to be an open-world game.

However, it's just the one mission, and when it comes to design it's not like GTA didn't throw you some absolute clonkers in the middle of brilliance either.

Anyway, the game's mechanics in general look sound and entertaining. I certainly wouldn't mind if it coupled all this with engaging narrative and diverse mission design.
  • makeamazing #25 3 years ago

I think its important to have some hemmed in missions in an open world game, because lets be honest there are some great things about sandbox games, but sometimes you need a little something different just to mix it up abit. This video is probably the worst of the bunch ive seen and the rest have been really good, so to be honest its looking like its going to be a fun game.
  • Slipstream #26 3 years ago

    Damnit it, PROTECT THE BUS!
  • Darren #27 3 years ago

Looks great fun. Very impressed by the solid framerate and lack of screen tearing, at least I know they won't be distracting me while I enjoy the game next week. Can't wait. Pre-ordered my copy from ShopTo.net for £33. :)
  • penhalion #28 3 years ago

    @DrDamn and Olemak

You may want to re-watch the video. Coles powers are simply knocking the enemies over. They are getting up again and again afterwards. They are then firing missiles at him. You seem to be thinking that he is fighting hundreds of enemies but, if you look you'll notice he is having to take ages to kill just a few dozen. Even the snipers on the roof are only knocked down when hit and Cole had to go into his own sniper mode to kill them.
  • CypherUK #29 3 years ago

There's not one thing that frustrates me more than players who seem to want to avoid looking around. Sniper fire generally comes from the rooftops so for a large part of that vid he was getting sniped and scounting for guys on the ground.

To those put off getting this game by watching one vid you should really wait and play the demo before considering your options.

An open world game like this cannot be properly reviewed or previewed based on the missions alone. These mission videos are just there for an insight into the mission-types you'll have along the way. There is the whole free-roam aspect to consider as well you know.

sn3jk: "talk about generic shooting. and an annoying woman screaming about protecting a bus. and why does Cole need to hit the machinegunner between the metal covers? shouldnt the whole platform conduct electricity pretty darn good?"

All the vehicles conduct electricity, maybe you're right but the player never tried that, he seemed pretty intent on sniping everything when a few grenades would have done the job a lot better. Seriously, don't judge a game based on gameplay from another player's perspective. Afterall, if you want something done right, do it yourself...

well i dont own a PS3, and unless it had some crazy dopamine injecting device that makes bad games like this fun, i see very little point in getting one
