Any reason on why there's no Xbox 360 release planned?
  • uzivatel #2 1 year ago

Seems like the game lost its sub-HD feel - maybe its proper 720p this time around.
Other than some odd effects it looks clearly better than the XBLA version (or paid beta, if you want to rub the purchase in my face).

@Rangerwave: being extended remake of the first one, you cant really expect people to re-buy the game after few months.

@uzivatel You're absolutely right - there has been a significant graphical upgrade along with all the other improvements and additions (list at http://www.hydrophobia-game.com/features...

@Rangerwave We would like to bring Prophecy to XBLA if possible as it is a far, far superior game even compared to Pure, but ultimately the decision is down to Microsoft

This is the what? 3rd, 4th "improvement", and now all the sudden it's so much better? I think these guys should just let this game go and do a new one. It has a nice art style, but Hydrophobia "problem", imo, is not the graphics, it's just that it is a boring, uninteresting game. Soz.
  • oceanmotion #5 1 year ago

There come a point when turning on every effect possible ruins game. It just looks messy. Art style doesn't help much either.

Maybe I just didn't pay much attention to this game when it came out for 360, but I was under the impression this was an action puzzler? Sort of like how Portal handles action, I mean. This trailer makes it look more like a shooter.
Currently, at less than €9 on Steam it looks like a compelling purchase, but I have enough shooters to play for now.
A Steam demo of these things before they come out would be great :/

Looks good. Was always interested in the game, but 1) I don't have an X360 and don't plan to get one. 2) It seemed a bit unpolished. Nice work on working out both of my issues guys :)
  • Rarehunter_idol #8 1 year ago

Really, really interested in this one. A bit excited, even. Wanted to play it when it came out on 360, but never got around to buying it, so i guess that was a wise thing, lol.

I just need to decide Steam or PS3. I'm sure it looks nicer on PC, but i have to wonder how it controls with a keyboard (Or i could always use Motion in Joy with my DS3). I hope it's not really demanding, either, my laptop has served me well for gaming (Can play the likes of Amnesia, Half-life2, Crysis on medium) but it's all i have until i finish saving for that shiny new Desktop i want to build. But i'm going off track here.

Anyway, i'll think about this one.

Got to love the way these guys take a bit of critisism, i could write a massive list of games that should have had a "Pure" style overhaul.

Is this all leading to a full retail release of hydrophobia 2?
  • DarkEnergy #10 1 year ago

@miiiguel It's a fair point, and obviously we do have other things in the pipeline. However we made the decision that rather than just porting Pure after is got a pretty positive reception, we'd repay all the players who took the time to give us more feedback on the listening post and send us kind messages. That and we still felt we hadn't been able to realise our ambitions for the original game, so before moving on we wanted to do it right.

@[TR] Yeah we went for an action focused trailer, and a few people have raised the same point. There is actually a lots of puzzle, platforming and suspense elements e.g. you can remotely open doors to manipulate the flow, hack into CCTV networks, utilise buoyant objects to solve puzzles and there's lot of environmental story telling and collectables for explorers. Agreed we didn't really capture that in this particular trailer

@Rarehunter_idol We've done a proper job with mouse and keyboard control e.g. no mouse acceleration and if you've got a kick ass PC it will look lovely. That said the Move controls on PS3 have had proper attention too.

@Spunkweazle Thanks kindly. And you win the prixe for most awesome handle of the day

You know what? I actually /enjoyed/ Hydrophobia. Pre-Pure. Pure just corrected a few errors and gave it an update to make it more... "friendly" to others. But I would never have said it's a bad game at all.

Kudos to DED for continual support of this little gem and releasing a new version, this time for PC. Curious to know why the f- her arm is now glowing though, and why a hover-laser-tank-thing is coming towards her. You've got my sale. Now hurry it up.

Oh, and I suppose Royal Wedding weekend n'all, we must mention that supporting this is a patriotic act... British Developer, after all!
  • DarkEnergy #12 1 year ago

@rivuzu Thanks for the support it means a lot! Yes it is a great weekend to be patriotic, we're working hard to make sure Kate's last minute nerves are calmed and she's looking like a million dollars before she steps into the spotlight. That's Kate Wilson not Middleton obviously ;)

"We would like to bring Prophecy to XBLA if possible as it is a far, far superior game even compared to Pure, but ultimately the decision is down to Microsoft"

I don't see how it can be "down to Microsoft", unless you're somehow under the illusion they're going to lift the 2GB restriction on XBL arcade games. From information I've been told about the Steam version of Prophecy, the game is now 8GB. How could you even begin to think that will ever be released on XBL under the current restrictions?

I'm really upset about this, as I posted on another board, I feel absolutely stabbed in the back by the release of Prophecy. I bought the original game when it was first released as the gaming equivalent of a bucket of mess. I stuck with it and supported it, yeah there was stuff wrong with it, but the Pure update went some way to rectifying that. You also opened the Listening Post which I took hours to meticulously fill out and offer my opinions and constructive comments. Then what do you do, DED? You release a seemingly far superior game, utilising ideas that myself and other 360 owners suggested, and release the game on OTHER platforms with logic dictating that it'll NEVER come to 360.

Thanks a bunch for reciprocating the support I gave you DED. For all the feedback you actively sought out, you've really thrown it all back in my face. If Prophecy doesn't make it in its entirety to XBL, then you can kiss any interest in possible sequels goodbye.

And, on-topic, I've not bothered watching the vid. Why would I?
  • DarkEnergy #14 1 year ago

@Spong Actually, the game is not 8gb on PC. 8gb free space is on the recommended spec sheet but you can run the game with far less free space. Obviously there space needed for save files, plus PC textures are higher resolution along with higher resolution videos and various other PC specific things. It isn't a problem to get Prophecy under 2gb on 360. The decision on 360 is absolutely down to Microsoft.

We're trying to get the best possible game for the best possible value to all players on all platforms... which included giving Pure to 360 owners for free and dropping the price. I absolutely understand your concerns as a 360 owners, but rest assured we're pushing for it and there is no technical reason why we can't do it :)
  • Spong #15 1 year ago

    @DarkEnergy

Thank you for your response. That'll teach me for going off on one based on the (mis)information I was given by others. Well, I guess all I can do now is cross my fingers and hope Prophecy gets a 360 release. I stand by what I said I'd do if it doesn't though.

Would I be right in assuming you have a working version of Prophecy for 360?

DarkEnergy has really changed their tone. Sounds like you realized that being overly dramatic about criticism has a negative affect on your ability to generate revenue. Since you sound like you're trying to be nice, I may just forgive you guys for being such assholes, and I will purchase this for PS3 when available. And it supports Move, nice.
  • DarkEnergy #17 1 year ago

@Spong You're welcome, I know it can be quite confusing to keep up with what the real deal is... we were aware our update approach isn't the clearest messaging but we thought it was more important to do what we thought was the best thing for the game and for the fans :)
