Graphics look good, if you're into that sort of thing

One odd thing though, several times it shows that they go into overdose and instead of picking on the nearest target, they run away to fight their own. Wouldn't it be logical for him to attack the first thing on two legs?

The overdosing-on-Nectar stuff makes some amount of sense for the player (presumably some kind of renegade ex-Mantel) choosing to overdose... but triggering overdoses in Mantel soldier enemies makes less sense in my opinion.
For a start, if Nectar is so dangerous (ie it can turn your troops against one another, effectively wiping out an entire squad) you have to wonder why the Mantel combat suits which administer Nectar don't have some kind of safe-guards in place. The Nectar grenades too... they appear to be just dispersing a cloud of Nectar in the air, but the Mantel baddies are all wearing helmets I thought.
Also considering the Mantel soldiers are supposed to be Nectared up to the gills and hyper-aware super soldiers, they seem remarkably happy to stand still while you chuck knives and grenades at them. For a game that has repeatedly made bold claims about how grown-up it is in the way it presents warfare, it seems all too willing to permit gameplay gimmicks to undermine the logic and believability of the world they've created. Also after Bioshock, turning baddies against each other doesn't seem that special.
Lastly, good to have Doak presenting this sort of thing for a change, rather than the eminently more punchable Yescombe...

As for the mantal troops being dumb, has anyone considered that maybe they had it on easy setting to demenstraight as much as possible in a short space of time.

What I most want to see from this game, though, is some ACTION. The prospect of which, attracted me to take notice of it in the first place.

Random nonsense.

Why do the Mantel troops only attack each other when overdosed on Nectar? Surely they'd just attack anything nearby, including you?

If this game delivers yet another refinement of the fluid gameplay delivered by Free Radical in those titles then I'll be very happy. TSFP really impressed me.

Thanks to nectar, logic doesn't matter.
Any bizzare thing you see the AI do, it's down to N3CTARRRRRR.

An explanation could be that Mantel Troops only see each other while in berserko mode, it's already been mentioned in other walkthrough's or dev diaries, that Mantel Troops only see them winning, they don't see dead people, or dead comrades everything is going their way panting a pretty picture in the war hence why they're arrogant and stuff.
Or the Ai has been tweaked for demonstration but yeah it would add an edge if it attacked everything in sight.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Oh, and that AI is crap. If you're showing your game off I doubt you'd deliberately make the AI transparently stupid.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Depends on what you want to show off... But I'd be very surprised if the game was as easy as it looks in this video. Although on the other hand, Timesplitters wasn't exactly known for its great AI...

Most likely, (counter)coop is about the strongest selling point for people with actual real life mates.
As for the rage thing; it wouldn't make sense because you're basically a mantel trooper as well. A more likely (but most likely not used) explanation would be that it wouldn't really be relevant for the gameplay as you would still be confronted with all the ai, now they just are in 'rage' mode. Thus not really giving an advantage.

I think they're putting too much emphasis on the Nectar which doesn't look particularly inspired or interesting anyway, and while I'm sure the gameplay will be up to scratch, the level design and combat in this video looks very generic. I hope most of it is set in the jungle; at least that's a bit more visually enticing.
Also, how easy is it to take out armour-clad enemies with just a regular knife?! They were dying with one hit from the knife, weren't they?!
Comment below viewing threshold Show
In the case of mantel. They just want amoral killing machines as any old idiot can pull a trigger at the end of the day.
Doesn't make for a fun game though as you can see.

just done the very same thing while the 360 is in repair. i have a massive amount of respect for doak & free radical.
pity the walkthrough bangs on about the overdose mechanic, probably more to do with pressure to emphasise a unique selling point than anything else. if this isn't at it's core another of free radical's solid fps's i'll eat my hat.

So for the extremely stupid who seem to populate this comments board the game is on easy therefore the enemies would of had less health, the AI would of been turned down and there are probably less enemy soilders. Since this is a FR game and there are yet to make 1 bad game why do you doubt it so much?
Why not wait until the full game is out there to look at and then comment on the game?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
People are naturally going to want to comment on a fairly high-profile game like this. Since all we really have to go on so far are the impressions from the video, do you think it's unfair we base our initial opinions on this?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
The AI was weak, like someone said if they overdose o nectar why would they ignore the player and only attack their own..
The game is meant to be out in november so probably less than 2 months to sort it all out i think theve got a lot to do, people shoul dcheck out the latest 1up show if you dont agree with my hands on impressions of the game they were much more scathing than i have been
Comment below viewing threshold Show
They haven't made a bad game in my mind, so I'm really hopeful for this... although, from what I played of it at GC it really could do with another half year or so of polishing/finishing, it was quite horrible (the controls were great though!).
Comment below viewing threshold Show
No thanks - go play some Bioshock FRD and then go back to making it. The PS3 can keep it as far as I'm concerned.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Besides, weren't you able to turn baddies against each other way back in Doom? Released, 1993 I believe.

Not only that one shot knife kills against armour? I think not!
This has got to work really hard in order to be up there with the other upcoming PS3 titles KZ2, MGS4 and so on.
Graphics... meh

Aside from that, looks pretty bog standard, tbh.
As said just above, unremarkable.
