Haunting? That wasn't haunting at all.
  • Lunatic4ever #3 6 months ago

why use "haunting" after all? Leave out your judgement on the footage and say theres new footage out there. It is up to me to decide whether it is haunting, exciting or awesome or whatever

I for one experienced a whole range of emotions
  • Inmediasress #5 6 months ago

Well it is haunting, I guess, but the character models are a bit too cartoony for my tastes, then again all bioshock models were like that.

The whole silent-video-with-emotional-music thing usually comes across as pretentious, but when Irrational do it, well...

That was not haunting, there were no spooky ghosts.
  • Softie2k #9 6 months ago

Wonderful environments. I wish more games had such vision.
  • filreed #10 6 months ago

I'm really looking forward to this game but a lot of those scenes were out of place with the music.
  • benfresh76 #11 6 months ago

Such a beautifully realised vision of a world, and the character style, especially on the female protagonist is lovely. Absolutely cannot wait for this game.
  • Xardan #12 6 months ago

Games making gamers feel their own feelings! Scandalous!
  • Monkey_Puncher #13 6 months ago

I'd love to see Irrational do a game that doesn't involve shooting. Not that I'm not chomping at the bit to play this, but I'd love to see them really push the boat out and do something completely unexpected.
  • Bennicus #14 6 months ago

Didn't you see the haunting explosions, followed by haunting sliding-on-rails-and-machine-gunning-fools action? Haunting.
  • Xardan #15 6 months ago

    @Monkey_Puncher

Companies dont like taking risks like that. Investors need to know their money will get returns. Shooters sell. Hence shooters in every fucking thing.

But yeah i feel the same way, i feel all the emphasis on combat these days ruins games ability to aspire to an artform and really push forward the medium of gaming to something special.

    @00:48 I really like Liz's animation :D
  • spekkeh #17 6 months ago

That whole riding on rollercoasters thing is a bit too wacky for what (it looks like) they're trying to accomplish if you ask me. Still, it's at least somewhat original (too bad they named it Bioshock), so I'll give it a go solely on that basis.

    Game looks great.
Although no. The trailer isn't haunting. Putting slightly sad / slow paced / minimal music over game trailers seems to be pretty much the fashionable thing to do at the moment. Maybe their trying to connect with the rest of the world and say "Hey games aren't all shooting and zombies! listen to our sentimental music" I think Benny Hill would have been better. Especially the bit where the protagonist is trying to shoot the guy zipping around on the overhead wire.

Edit: sorry nearly forgot : I used to listen to sad music like you... till I took an arrow in the kneeeeeee

    America is Rubbish: The Game
  • danjfor #21 6 months ago

On the one hand, the city in this seems like a great bit of cultural caricature on turn-of-the-century-type American exceptionalism; but on the other hand that bug-eyed Pixar adorability-engine following you about seems like such a shamelessy pandering character design I dunno what to expect... ho hum. Looks good anyhow.

    bug-eyed Pixar adorability-engine

Pixar? Please. This bug-eyed adorability engine is straight outta Disney...

  • jaguarwong #23 6 months ago

You can dress your generic FPS up in all the clever story and gorgeous art style you like but at at the end of the day your gameplay will expose you.

I love the look of this but I was so bored by Bioshock that I'll probably never try it.
  • chrisola #24 6 months ago

I'm sick of this game already - after Edge's forced cover story about the woman in it being a new gaming icon for the ages.

Hmm. Maybe best to let time, the players and the quality of the game decide it's place in history?

And if this year has taught me anything, it's that it'll be a 8/10 at best with a shoddy token PC port to follow, and broken in some way on release.

    /negative

    Does have potential though!
  • stryker1121 #25 6 months ago

In Irrational I trust til proven otherwise...but I don't want a shooter that's on rails...from a narrative/gameplay sense not the rollercoaster things, which look interesting. Give me some exploration and the storytelling/world-building goodness of BioShock, please.

EDIT: Reading this thread, there are some world-weary gamers out there. Do you guys like anything?

Eurogamer, you did this with Skyrim and BF3 as well. This is a commercial for a videogame, and you throw in an adjective like "haunting" or "stunning" or "jawdropping" to get the clicks up. Mixing it right into the news feed seems extremely dishonest. Rubs me the wrong way.
  • username84 #27 6 months ago

@stryker1121 I don't think it's a case of disliking everything. More a case of being fed up of having the same regurgitated guff loading on our screens. Saying that the previous Bioshock games have stood out from the crowd and hopefully this one will prove just as exciting.

    @MENTAL1ST

The whole game does come across as very Disney or Pixar. Especially when looking at that picture. And you have to admit the game looks very heavy with the bloom and colours also it has the whole Princess and her rescuer going on too.

Thanks for ruining the game for me METAL1ST!

    Bastard...

Not the best trailer to showcase Infinite, but what do I know. I liked the previous trailer with commentary from Ken better. And AC Revelations did the music trailer thingy a lot better, that one was pretty cool.

And nice to see how pointlessly petty EG commenters continue to be... OH NO EG USED A QUESTIONABLE ADJECTIVE TO DESCRIBE A TRAILER

@username84 Fair enough..probably has something to do w/ 'game fatigue' at the end of a console cycle, too, not to mention the shitloads of hype that come w/ AAA titles. There's pretty much nothing new under the sun this gen and people are airing grievances. Fine, I get it, i'm a little fatigued myself tbh.

My point was, BioShock was something actually unique in an industry packed w/ generic shooters, and Infinite is shaping up to be another story-driven, character heavy title on par with the sublime first game. My opinion of course, but what's not to like? People seem to be bitching for the sake of it, not just here and not just w/ this game, but every gaming site I visit for most every new title. Ennui city, man!

  • andromeda #42 6 months ago

    Uh, haunting?

Don't know about haunting, it is however as GAY as those GOW tv spots with the same treatment, woosy tune in the bakgrnd to try and conjure up some sense of self importance.
I wish Irr hadn't gone down this route, it is quite embarrassing to watch
  • miseryguts #43 6 months ago

Really finding it hard to think of a more inappropriate/ineffective piece of music to accompany this footage.. whoever chose this needs a severe arse kicking..
  • funkateer #44 6 months ago

(secretly still hoping for a true System Shock sequel though)

What a dreadful choice of song. I like a wide variety of music, but bugger me sideways if this 'trying to sing but I cant' fad doesn't make my ears bleed. Arrhythmic, un-melodic and just bloody irritating.

And totally took my attention away from what (on second, muted viewing) is a nice trailer. :/
  • coolbritannia #47 6 months ago

I guess this suffers from the same thing people (wrongly) criticise Halo for. The cartoony, colourful nature of the game is totally at odds with what's going on. Still, I wait with baited breath.
  • Kanjin #48 6 months ago

Had enough of railroad shooters, if I wanted no choices I'd watch a film. Bioshock avoided it nicely in the first game so hoping it'll continue!

I can see some people dislike the art style in this game, and thats fair enough, each to their own tastes. Personally, I much prefer games that go for slightly less realistic ("cartoony", if thats how you want to describe it) approach, I get enough of realistic visuals irl.

  • HurbleBurble #54 6 months ago

Hmmm, most of that is not 'new' footage, just recycled from previous playthroughs. Is it haunting, or even emotive? No not really, because there's very little context and the character models are too obviously CG to ellicit any form of emotional impact.

Bit of a crap headline for a rather underwhelming piece of advertising really.

Plus, it may just be me, but Infinite actually seems to look worse and worse the more I see of it.

That trailer was an emotional journey...the song was haunting and this game looks like something we've never seen before!
