Halo 3 - Mulitplayer dev diary

Published 11 April, 2007 Duration 7:19

Considered by many to be one of the finest examples of the multiplayer shooter available, we're sure the Halo series needs no introduction. What you might want, however, is an in-depth preview on how the third incarnation will work. Voila.

Let's start up Halo 1 again just for fun. Aaah...what a fun game that still is.
The download is finished!! Starting up the video......ouch, my eyes! I'm going blind!

What's happening? It looks like Halo 1 with stuttering animations!
My mind is racing: "it's all about the gameplay". But my eyes can't adjust to the crappy graphics and badly excecuted animations.

I start praying, hoping this is a pre-pre (add a lot of pre's after this) alpha version they're using so they can dazzle us with some eye candy later this year. In the corner of my eye I notice the bargain bin...must concentrate...cannot be distracted...must help Bungie to get out of this mess...

Yeah, on their website they said this is all Alpha, so it's gonna look crap.

I can't wait for the Beta, some of the new features look great.

I think it looks awesome. For some time now I actually stopped thinking about graphics, games just stopped disappointing me (in that matter).

i think people will be in for a suprise wiht regards to the graphics. Its better to let the fanboys build up there negative shit storm before you blow it away...

Wouldn't it be cool if you could spectate? The GoW camera effect combined with the PGR TV concept. Perhaps when it goes into screensaver mode just join a random battle with a camera that makes a flyby of the battlefield.

Considering that it is possible to play 16p without lag, every 8p game should at least be able to handle 4 spectators without anyone knowing.

Btw, am I the only one who thinks that the after view elements where not yet implemented in this vid and the editor just manipulated real-time vids?

It will be interesting what H3 will do to 360 sales. The xbox sold mainly on the halo franchise and the 360 had to do without that for now (imo the reason for rather failing sales).

    Very nicely put together documentary.

Not once did anyone refer to the game as "IP". Not a single marketroid in sight. Very encouraging.

Whilst the graphics don't look to be much of a step up yet, they certainly seem to be enjoying themselves testing it, and they all seem very enthusiastic.

I just laugh at all these "HOT NEW FEATURESZZZZ!!" that have been in games like Quake 3 and UT'99 ever since their release.
  • DUFFKING #16 5 years ago

Actually there's some halo 2 footage in the trailer and IMO it looks utter rubbish compared to 3.

Owen-B, that's exactly what I was thinking. Maybe it's not even an alpha yet, but they're simply developing content for the Halo 2 engine so that when the next gen engine is available, they can simply port that stuff over and add some additional fancyness.

That way they don't have to wait for the new engine to be ready before they can develop content and actually test it in real gameplay situations.

looks crap. I've always thought Halo was shite too! (gasp)
