Looks pretty cool. Shield grenade... interesting.

Also: I think that's John before they took him for the Spartan-2 project...

OMG why do they always show CG . I want some real gameplay FFS

.....Oh wait it's Microsoft so I guess it's ok then
  • Rich72 #9 5 years ago

    @ Mastergrief

they always said it would be CG so guess what happened?
  • MasterGrief #10 5 years ago

    @ Rich

And Sony never fully confirmed that Killzone was gameplay which is what lead most people to believe it was . They basically just left it open and never properly confirmed or denied it.

As for Bungie didn't they say before they don't use CGI ?

And I was mainly referring to the comments here like 'wow' 'cool' etc over a CG trailer but when Sony shows any CGI then we hear stuff like 'FFS I'm getting tired of CGI at least MS shows us some real gameplay etc'

    OMG OMG GAMEPLAY GRAPHIGSS!

    That grenade looks cool :)
  • Rich72 #12 5 years ago

i'm pretty sure (but not positive) that the sony pre-rendered stuff was for us to believe they were the real Mckoy. Bungie have said that they don't usually allow pre-render but in this this case they did for promotional purposes, probably in a microsoft half-nelson. anyways..... looks great and not too OTT to not be too far from the end product.

Is it just me or does it resemble the dvd box of Serenity?
  • MasterGrief #14 5 years ago

    @ Wonga

Bungie have never actually said they'd never ever use CG but they have said they only use in engine for their movies (promotional or otherwise)

I guess you could infer that since Bungie didn't actually make the trailer it's not a point but I still find it funny people drooling over CG as long as it has 'Microsoft' stamped on it

As for the shield grenade not to start a fanboy war or anything but since the latest craze is to accuse Sony of copying people well Resistance already has one http://www .youtube.com/watch?v=LF38xCaYHGY ;)
  • DeveloperPump #15 5 years ago

Yeah, but the Resistance shield grenade looks all cutesy and bubble bobbly.

I bet MC's grenade would shield that shit out of that one. Oh yeah!

  • TR421 #16 5 years ago

    "microsoft half-nelson"
More like a Microsoft Major Nelson!

    /gets coat
  • Rich72 #17 5 years ago

those physics look great but really....waht's the point?
  • Bm1987 #18 5 years ago

Shield grenade...Imagine the uses for that in multiplyer. It is true that the concept is not new but a actual bubble around the user ... can't wait to get this game.

Told us absolutely nothing interesting. 1/2 of it was lying in a field as a child, the other 1/2 was him running across a battlefield. If it was the Master Chief taking a shit in the can for a minute people would be still passing out over their keyboards.

It'll be a great game, but seriously, there was no point to that at all.

    @MasterGrief

First of all they make it very clear that thie movie is CGI. There is no hint what so ever of it being in-game footage.

I was at the sony CGI show with the infamous videos and the speeches actually said this is what you can expect from the PS3. Most people now realise that was absolute bollocks. Even though many journalists had to eat their words for believing the hype and claiming otherwise (including a certain person at EG)!

The shield grenade looks like it was the suprise that bungie was hinting at when they talked about not having to use the x button to win in their multiplayer journalist preview. Probably tech taken from the ancients ship that master chief uses to get back to earth so most likely a limited use item.

The only thing I see as silly with this advert is that halo is too far away to begin the hype machine now. Unless the date is closer than we think, I know that I for one will be royaly fed up of all things halo by september if the hype starts now!

That's what I thought as well. It definitely doesn't look like any human or covenant shield. And a personal shield that can withstand a mortar tank? But then again, perhaps it's the brute version of a shield (as they don't carry shields around like most of the other fighting classes).

I really hope that they implement this into the game as it could really add stuff to multiplayer (tactical saving when your personal shield is drained or just a wall to stand behind).

it would also be nice if they implemented the use of the jackal shield (dual wield with a pistol or something?)

After the ridiculous let down that was the halo 2 trailer vs the actuality I am surprised they seam set on the same crap yet again.

  • fantabulo #23 5 years ago

Why couldn't he just hold the grenade? Then he could run around with it. No, no I don't think this game is for me...
  • Saii #24 5 years ago

Throwing weird shit at the ground in a dramatic fashion has always been cool. Just look at any PowerRangers/Anime/Ninja. If MC can do similar with a smoke-bomb and disappear from sight I'll die laughing :D
  • wired009 #25 5 years ago

Why are you guys bashing a Cinematic Trailer?! As the name implies it's supposed to be a short movie clip to make you interested in shooting Covenant aliens. No one ever said it was going to be gameplay footage. When they want to show you gameplay I'm sure there will be another video. This is nothing like Killzone for PS3 because unlike Killzone for PS2, Halo for Xbox1 was a good game. The point is if you generally liked the Halo games you will probably like Halo 3. As far as storytelling CGI goes, this trailer was great. You get to see Master Chief in a near death situation (hence the flashback to childhood and the missing helmet) leading up to a climactic leap into battle (i want to shoot pixelated alien invaders part). The detail of the objects in the world, the use of vision blurring, sound effects, the lifelike movements of the Chief is movie quality. Oh yeah, everyone knows that you can't hold a force field grenade in your hand because the energy hexagons fly out from it. You have to throw is so your hand doesn't get obliterated or teleported to another dimension. It's totally different from a force field emitter, which the Chief's suit already has.

    awesome running style
  • MasterGrief #27 5 years ago

    @ Wired

I'm not bashing the trailer (infact I think it's pretty cool) I'm just pointing out that when Sony does CG trailers then its criticized for it. Or the way these xbots criticize MGS and Final Fantasy because of their video sequences.

The trailer itself was nice (apart from the cliched Hollywood style intro) but TBH I'm getting tired of Microsoft overhyping 1 game for an entire year just because they have pretty graphics (Halo1 , Halo2, Gears of War) while in comparison Nintendo and Sony like to distribute attention over a broad range of games
  • Xerx3s #28 5 years ago

After the ridiculous let down that was the halo 2 trailer vs the actuality I am surprised they seam set on the same crap yet again.

In what way was it a 'ridiculous letdown'? The fact that the AI is fucking incredible? Or perhaps the extremely good coop/multiplayer? Maybe it was that beautiful graphics or audio? The well-formed storyline then? The adrenaline rushing fighting scenes perhaps?

Or are you saying that the game was crap because it had an open ending? If that is the case, that must make you a hater of almost every great franchise in the world.

Or maybe....maybe it's just because you most likely didn't even play the game.

Yeah it was john as a kid... I really hope they flesh out the story a bit and you get more flashbacks and stuff covering the Chief and his past. Maybe even amongst some past battles on Reach or something like that...

Bungie reckon that the first trailer they showed used the in game engine to render it like they did in Halo and Halo 2. It may be that they add on additional rendering and detail like they did with Halo 2. If this is the case it will look awesome. I reckon that this movie is CGI tho as I don't think it's possible this gen to get that kind in game performance.

I really can't wait for this game.

"And Sony never fully confirmed that Killzone was gameplay which is what lead most people to believe it was ."

Actually a Sony exec is on record, being interviewed by IGN, saying that Killzone "is definitely gameplay". Later it was claimed he thought he was talking about Resistance.

And Bungie said that the TV spot was CGI before it was even out.
