Nice idea; too pretty. Why can't they be gnarled wood people? She claims they're separate from both elves and dryad, but a cross between those races is exactly what the Sylvari look like.

According to the main Guild Wars 2 websites 'Sylvari' week, they have a 'winter skin' set which are more tree/gnarled and ugly looking. So hopefully we can make ones that are less sickeningly poncy as those in the video.

Giving them a ridable lawn mower mount or a weapon like hedge trimmers would make up for the poncy looks though.

Sure, don't do anything with the brilliant Tengu but get tree-people in the game, because you know, since Avatar everyone loves tree-people... I adore GW, but their choice of races for GW2 is just a pain.

At the end she seems to be hinting that you can make them more 'aggressive' (looking?) and there's the whole winter skin thing. Being a walking yew tree would be kind of cool.

Plants generally are pretty, these are plant "people". I don't see the problem. I really like their new look, it's certainly a lot better than the old design.

How fun would something like that be to play? Having them fit with the other races (having a personal story, equipping armour, interacting with other humanoids, etc) would be difficult, not to mention the fact most people just wouldn't want to play as something totally non human.

Even as it is, they say in the blog they had trouble designing them. Some people waned the sylvari to be a beautiful, almost elven plant-like people and others basically wanted ents. They tried to do something that suits both and I think they've done an amazing job.

Along with the charr, GW2 easily has some of the most interesting races in any game I've seen. I'm very happy they stayed away from the typical elves/dwarves/orcs/goblins, etc.
