Looks like great fun, can't wait.

Anybody _not_ checking this out at gamescom? ^^
  • thesonglessbird #3 2 years ago

    Breast physics = definitive purchase.

Not really, but GW is the only MMO I've played that I've enjoyed so I'll probably check this out.

I still want to know how they will tackle the problem that comes with a great population. Sure, cause and effect is something I've long wanted to see in an MMO, but if every single player can influence the world, it will lead to chaos.

    @ChthonicEcho

It'll be controlled - like GWs is at the moment. Think pre-Searing and post Searing - that kinda thing...

I love GWs still play it a fair bit and it still looks great.

wow man! this game looks more amazing the more I see of it and sounds better each time. I'm praying that this lives up to expectations - oh and that undead dragon at the end was just astounding what a boss!

As a long term WoW fan I hate the term WoW Killer, but this makes current bliz thinking look very very old.
  • hiddenranbir #8 2 years ago

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes! Finally, they're moving away from an MMORPG structure that never left the 80s (given what they talk about) Not just about pretty graphics but actually using technology to make a dynamic world, hells to the yessss!
  • Eraysor #9 2 years ago

My only worry is that they are hyping this so much and calling it such a WoW-killer that it almost sounds silly. WoW has few problems to be honest, and evidently 11.5 million people enjoy playing it, myself included.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed GW and this is looking like a great new take on the genre. I just hope all this hype doesn't backfire, and they actually follow through with what they're saying...I've heard the "every player will make a difference" line before.

"I've heard the "every player will make a difference" line before."

    For what?
  • curtlikesmeat #11 2 years ago

That was an awesome trailer, still I can't help but feel like you can't tell whether that'll be representitive of the full game. You could put together an equally epic trailer with the WoW engine (though the graphics wouldn't be as good), and that wouldn't fairly represent how it actually plays.

I'd like to see something in game with the HUD - looking forward to hearing some reports of people playing.

    @ZuluHero

I've never played Guild Wars, to be honest. What do you mean controlled? As in, by actual in-game GMs?
  • Kafeen #13 2 years ago

If they do everything they say they're going to do then this game is going to be epic.

Agreed about needing to see the HUD, I'm just not sure if the GW six-powers approach actually cuts the mustard long term. I kinda got used to the 20+ buttons that WoW / Aion / AoC give you, I guess.

I'll probably pick it up anyway though. Even if I only play it for a month or so, still worth it ;)

It won't be like searing - which was essentially having you play in one instance of a world and then move you to another instance of a world.

It'll be dynamic world events that are on a random timer. So like those centaurs attacking the trading post, that will happen at a random time and it is your choice to help defend the outpost or let the centaurs dick all over it. Then that will chain to another event which will start at a random time of where the outpost will be liberated or attacked again.

This was mentioned in an earlier article, I believe. So lots of these, big or small, events will be in the world and have chains to them and we might be able to see a tug of war thing maybe going on if this is all on the backdrop of a war, which I imagine for a MMO it will be. :)

Tabula Rasa had random attacks on outposts, where supposedly everyone could make a difference. Most MMOs claim that a single player can change the world, and to be fair games like EVE show it can be possible through espionage in particular. In a fantasy MMO, I'd love to see how they'll pull it off.
  • hiddenranbir #18 2 years ago

Problem with Tabula Rasa is those captured towns just spawned npcs that stood around, and the only point to capture/defend them was so you could have access to the "kill x this or fetch x that" type of quests. The status of the town did not have any further impact on the war against the aliens, there was no domino effect of events, so in that sense, this might be a step further. If another claim holds true, the whole ! over a npc that stands around doing nothing is something to be swept aside too.

I didn't play the first Guild Wars, but this looks great.
  • Seehuusen #20 2 years ago

Just like Blizzard did with Icecrown, Guild wars 2 is going to do it to a much bigger extent with the entire game world. If you complete certain quets, the terrain will look different for you, but not for those who havn't completed it yet.

I really dislike MMOs where they tell my character "You are a hero!" and then there are 20-30 other heroes running around me at the same time. I think it is silly and I do wish for a proper fantasy MMO that is just honest about it.

And I don't think that they have ever claimed that GW2 would be a WoW killer. The only thing that could kill WoW would be WoW 2, Starcraft MMO or if Blizzard would just stop the servers for a long time. (And to a lesser extent Diablo 3 might have some effect on WoW population.)
  • knightmt #22 2 years ago

    Holy fuck.
I wished they had not said so much, I was sold before they started the Car Sales speal.
Sounds too good to be true.
  • Scopeh #23 2 years ago

ha, what is deathwing doing in GW2?
  • makariel #24 2 years ago

Yet another MMO that claims to be completely different and revolutionary and so much better in so many respects than 'other MMO' (meaning WoW I assume, the elephant in the room). Time will tell if they can back up the big talk or if it shares the fate of Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Chronicles of Spellborn, Warhammer Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online and all the others...

I'll keep it on my radar, but excuse me for being sceptical about all this advertising.
