So come on who's going to say it first? It's all just pre renders right? The game can't be as good as that....blah blah blah.

  • BartonFink #8 5 years ago

Well that was a bit err ... crap
  • dsmx #9 5 years ago

looks promising but I'll will wait and see how it turns out. Still feeling a bit let down by SA.
  • red_warrior #10 5 years ago

no way is it pre renders, GTA has always been all in game so why would they change. If it wasnt in game it would look much better than, you can tell by the character and the trees.

  • foamy #14 5 years ago

Ok, now that i've calmed down.

Really looking forward to it. The city really seems alive and rockstar did want us to notice the real-time day-night cycle, etc. The music, and the russian dood talking like he wanted to redeem himself, really made me enthusiastic ;_; I can sense a nice story :D
  • _Price_ #15 5 years ago

Looks HUGE but structured. The graphics aren't bad either.

Time to start saving up those pennies / days off work.

Oh, and is it me or does 'the guy' look like Lucas Kane from Fahrenheit? Rockstar could have a law suit over unlockable 'iced tea' content on their hands (waits for people to get it.....)

    LAME

    apart from the russian dude
  • Duke_Red #17 5 years ago

Seemingly theyve redone the city of GTA 3, but bigger and boosted the graphics. Nothing known about gameplay yet...
  • MaTTy_P #18 5 years ago

Its blatantly not pre-rendered. Looks promising, lets hope it can meet expectations.

    Peace.
  • penhalion #19 5 years ago

You know it's not the same team doing this right? The names have changed, only the company remains the same. So this could indeed be pre-rendered.
  • Monkey_Chops #20 5 years ago

It looks purty. I want to be friends with it. But no multiplayer, according to Xbox.com? Fuck that shit.
  • bluem4gic #21 5 years ago

Am I the only one who is not majorly impressed. Grand cityscape. But why america again. Why not a change of scenery for once. How about GTA LONDON!

So is that modern day then or what?
  • BadBoyBonner #23 5 years ago

Why would it be a render? Looks quite nice, but doesn't look as good as the new engine Frostbite engine or UE3 or Avalanches engine.

As such I am 100% positive it is not a render. It Looks VERY nice for a GTA game which lets be honest have never been visually cutting edge.

An I thought Liberty City was a fictional place - seems it must hidden in America somewhere.
  • penhalion #26 5 years ago

Yea sorry I watched the low quality one first. It's not pre-render it's simply scenery stuff with shaders. The main character looks stupidly blocky though and animation is sub Saint's row. In fact I hate to say it but, this doesn't look much better than saints row at all.

I think this is one that will sell on the GTA name rather than any gameplay merits. Let's predict shall we. I bet your guy ends up killing people, smuggling people, selling people oh and being forced to work his way up the russian mafia while buying safe houses and stealing cars. You get to kill cops with impunity and hmmm I know! You can haul anyone out of their car and drive around until you get really bored.

If I'm even half right, this is a series that simply needs to die.
  • bluem4gic #27 5 years ago

Well I will wait to see what how "Uniquely different" gameplay will be in GTA4. Personally I wanted a different setting. Why NEW YORK again?
  • tobi #28 5 years ago

yo eurogamer whats up with that miniture screen!
  • Sl1pstream #29 5 years ago

Is this the patch that adds the fun?

    Really....that's it?

If they're not going to do anything special, remind me why I shouldn't stick to Crackdown?

Am I the only one, who senses, that there may be a change in the mood of the game? Like it's gonna be something a bit darker, than the previous GTA games?..
  • Wyrm #31 5 years ago

I'd comment if I could actually find a source of the video that works.

And lo the video suddenly works...

Looks nice, but as said before, this will need a massive gameplay revamp of Resi Evil 4 magnitudes to make me excited. Hopefully the new engine will allow realms of creativity and variety we haven't had for a while in GTA games.

  • wanksta10 #32 5 years ago

not much that's actually got that WOW!! factor about it though to be totally honest, i think the setting looks more interesting and the character for a change appears to be sum1 who holds a natural edge about him but if they don't radically change the gameplay or mission structure, then this isn't going to set the world alight come release i feel :(
  • Zane #33 5 years ago

Certainly looks interesting, just not groundbreaking. It gives me the same kinda feeling Fable 2 does though, that it actually might deliver.

Looks great. Will be interesting to see what they do with gameplay. Hopefully this will mark the start of some actual assets and information on the game.
  • milesahead #36 5 years ago

Strange that no one has made any comments on how the trailer is either a tribute or a ripoff (depends how you see it ;) of one of the greatest movies ever made! Koyanisquatsi and of course the use of Philip Glass music...

couldn't be more rockstar, like the trailer for table tennis using minimal electro used by Richie Hawtin.

  • BadBoyBonner #42 5 years ago

Anyone noticed how there isn't really that many people around in this, and that they have used time lapse effect to try to make it look like there is loads of people in one section.

While very clever in manipulation of imagery I hope it is not an indication of the whole place being a bit spartan after seeing Dead Rising throwing loads of bodies around the screen so to speak.
  • zendragon #43 5 years ago

That's it? The graphics look straight out of PS2
  • MrAtheist #44 5 years ago

Dug the Koyaanisqatsi nod. Glad they did something different with the trailer (more footage of some dude beating on cops with a baseball bat *yawn*.)
  • Rusta #45 5 years ago

That soundtrack is familiar, what is it?
  • ruckus #46 5 years ago

    Pretty cool looking so far...
  • Shrui #47 5 years ago

I was excited to see it first time but on reflection am I excited at the trailer itself or do I just want GTA to have halfway decent graphics?

i.e. There is a mod being made at the moment where some guys are rebuilding Half Life from the textures up in Source (not like the pointless Half Life:Source conversion). It looks cool but I'm really just excited because I'll be replaying HL in nicer graphics. It's still the same game I've been through a few times already.

If this was a brand new license you had never heard of would you be as impressed?

Bit of an assumption I know to assume it will be all the same gameplay style but lets face it, if it ain't bro.... sorry, if it still sells, why change it?

Still I like the GTA way of things and I'll likely be a buyer. Nice to have a Russian (or eastern europe?) feel to things.

  • Triggerhappytel #49 5 years ago

I've been getting a bit cynical over the series in the last few years, but even just looking at this short trailer has got me mildly excited. I'm sure R* North will do it again and pull another corker out of the hat.

Why set in NYC though? I like the made-up GTA cities. Why not set it in Manhunt's Carcer City (or is it Carson?) and make it just like New York?!

  • Chtulie #53 5 years ago

    Effective teaser trailer.

To me though, it does feel like it's GTAnother city. Except the twist this time is that the city has a real name.

I do expet there's going to be one or two big reveals though. San Andreas certainly had a lot between the first teaser trailer and release (first we thought it was just one city, then it was revealed to be a whole state).
  • Triggerhappytel #54 5 years ago

Oh second viewing, the roads and pavements do look a little deserted. Obviously there's months to refine these cosmetics before it's release, but I hope this is something that's addressed.
  • ecureuil #55 5 years ago

Are you kidding? It's a cinematic trailer, the can put as many people on the streets as they want. You can't use this to judge how many people will be roaming the streets in the game.
  • polar #56 5 years ago

    BOOOORRING!
The Koyaanisqatsi reference was kind of stupid, as there were only a handfull of cars and people in the fast-motion shots - unlike the film. R* are going to have to do a hell of a lot better to convince me to buy this after the shambles of GTA:SA.
  • Mordum #57 5 years ago

Well it looks ok. Hopefully they're going for a darker story (as other people have mentioned), which would certainly raise my interest in this game. New York? talk about the most un-original city for a game, wish they had gone for a different location. If they don't at least have online co-op mode then I'll be very disapointed, Crackdown showed how much fun it can be, and it would just feel like a step backwards if it were absent. Even Saints Row offered an online multiplayer mode, so I hope GTAIV does'nt skimp on these online features.

Crackdown 2 gives me a bigger hard on than this anyway.

the sheep will be queueing down the street for this shite
  • masterson #60 5 years ago

Funny how the most stupid and pointless comments run from "Meh - clearly pre-renders", thru "Meh - PS2 quality graphics" to "Meh - I hate GTA anyway".
  • t8yman #61 5 years ago

why is it funny masterson, its called personal opinion, and last time I looked - we were entitled to them. Id say your post was far more stupid.

I hope you get the choice between being the criminal or the guy who brings the criminals down. I was never able to get into the whole being the criminal bastard thing in these games. I like the sand box concept and the living breathing city idea, but the subject matter (and the god awful combat) turned me right off.

  • CitizenGeek #64 5 years ago

A little too realistic? It's lost some of that GTA style, I would say. Also, SA was just so boring that it's hard to get excited for this.
  • Les #65 5 years ago

I didn't expect much from the trailer and I was right. This tells you absolutely nothing about GTA IV's gameplay and that's the only thing that matters.
  • Dizzy #66 5 years ago

    Good stuff... nice engine.
  • sickpuppysoftware #67 5 years ago

As long as they keep the vehicles fun to drive GTA style I'll be happy. Nice to see the road surfaces looking a bit smother than the angular mess of old GTA.

Obviously I'm not down the with meh crowd as it looks interesting to me.
  • theidiotsarewinning #68 5 years ago

loved the coney island roller coaster...very requiem for a dream:)
  • MaxiSleep #69 5 years ago

I am very much in the OMG camp here. The way "new york" was portrayed was amazing and clearly very different from the original liberty city. Only been there for a week but it really resonated.

For those complaining about graphics GTA was never about the best graphics but rather consistent levels of graphics over a very large play area. If they can pull that off with this it will be incredible.

The crowd scenes that were there were also interesting in that there were a lot of people(Presumably character models are not photo-real because they will have lots of them).

However I cant help fealing concerned about the level of realism already shown. I found with saints row that I was getting uncomfortable with the wanton slaughter at times. With GTA you were never under any illusion it was not a game. Be interesting to see if they change some of the structural elements to reflect the increased realism.

But based on this mr credit card will be buying :)

  • dudefella #70 5 years ago

    WHat?

    Did I miss something?

Did Rockstar honestly make a big fuss about a trailer? And then they show us this? A fucking tech demo teaser? What a shitload of fuck.
  • jonsaan #71 5 years ago

Perhaps here, things will be different?

Doesn't look like it Rockstar. Change the record, please!
  • fluff_the_tiger #72 5 years ago

looks great. Why do people who didn't like GTA: SA even bother to though - enjoyment through moaning, blah
  • Azazel #73 5 years ago

This reminds me of that BrassEye sketch were the Senator can't stop jacking off.
  • T4RG4 #74 5 years ago

Quite nice - I was certainly ready to base it but some of the effort that appears to have gone into this is impressive...

However, the main characters accent seems naff... English mothertongue trying to apply an accent? Hmm. A hint of Russian but doesnt look it... more like tadjic. The art team must be hoooge.

  • oldfruit #78 5 years ago

Great idea - liberty city re-realised with up to date visuals and (hopefully) fixed aiming mechanics. Georgeous lighting, amazing attention to detail, dramatic sense of scale. Even the suspension on the cars reacting to small undulations in the road surface. Beautiful! I just hope they've gone back to basics as I got bored of SA soooo quickly.
  • TONYgr #79 5 years ago

i like the graphics!i just hope its not only a city but a state again!
  • Machetazo #80 5 years ago

"Am I the only one, who senses, that there may be a change in the mood of the game? Like it's gonna be something a bit darker, than the previous GTA games?.. "

"we're not a grand theft auto kinda guy,moe like a godfather kinda guy
    "

Two statements I'm completely in agreement with, above. Before, GTA became like a goofy, messing around type of game, that you couldn't really feel (comparison: Saints Row/SA - the latter of which sucked) as there became little point to it all. So, you definitely won't find any GTA reverance in this comment, since the series has been on the slide since GTA3, although Vice City was a lot of fun. So, I think, like the comments quoted that we're going to see a slower pace. (Godfather, being the reference that immediately sprung to my mind, too, having watched the trailer)

I hope our actions have real consequences, with tough cops, rather than the played-for-laughs examples of similar games...

They'll try to distance themselves from EA's property though, by GTA-ing the result...A global corp. called "Getalife", for example, lol! I really liked those flypast sequences that showed that we'll probably have real-time, with complex light and shadow, and that the city has scrolling neon-lit text banners. Which city doesn't in the real-world?...Anyone tried running the video at half-speed or so, at that point when the lit text scrolls, to see if any easter egg is present?

I liked the bleak seaport, towards the end. It didn't seem artificial (nor did most of the locations featured in the trailer, actually) and you could be sure that things happened there. It wasn't just there as window dressing, like most of the buildings in previous GTAs. Provided they stick to what they've shown, my faith in this franchise may well be restored. Atm, it's one I'm interested in. :) Shame it's not set in the far East, though! :p
  • oldfruit #81 5 years ago

I'm delighted by the simple idea of a re-realised Liberty City taking advantage of todays graphics capabilities. It looks great. The attention to detail, georgeous lighting, suspension reacting to undulating roads, motion captured seagulls. Yep, I'm looking forward to going there and I don't care what I'm doing as long as they've sorted the targetting out.

Despite the gamefaqs boards usually being little more than idiocy and racism, this is a actually a good thread with a lot of easily missed details.

Personally, I'm thrilled by the trailer, as I haven't really gotten sick of the GTA formula. I think it's far too early to make predictions about the game though, for all we know the guy in the teaser is the villain, the protagonist is fully customizable and the second half of the game takes place in Trinidad.

evryyone can make all the coments they want but lets face it its all still speculation. all the complaints peole have made are completley unfounded so to is the praise. it could be just another GTA, the same as the rest. or it could be completlley different in terms of gameplay. new york could be one of several locations in the game the russian dude could be one of several charechters. maybe the rusian dude is trying to go straight.
or as someone mentioned earlier it could be a horse training simulator.

No, I liked it too. I mean, I wasn't too keen on the whole 'gangsta' theme, but I thought the gameworld was excellent, and the range of new gameplay elements and things they tightened up was impressive.

Not as good as GTA3, mind, but my second favourite in the series.

  • YourMessageHere #92 5 years ago

I really hope the amazing innovation in gameplay this brings is some kind of player choice in how the main story develops. Sure, it's pretty, but it's not as if we've not played GTA in "Liberty City" three times already; it needs something else to actually be special. Personally I'm amazed there's been no GTA game where the protagonist is a cop. Being able to play this through as a criminal and then replay it as a cop would be great.

PS I hated the "gangsta" pretentions of SA but generally loved it.
