    PS4 launch title.
  • Fatbobbybob #2 2 years ago

Yowzers that looks amazing. Fingers crossed my new Fanatec wheel arrives in time for this game. It's been a long time coming but boy does it look good.
  • supermaniacs #3 2 years ago

It may have taken ages for this to be released, but it's looking like it may be worth the wait!!

I also like the fact that Kazanori doesnt have the urge to simply bash his competitors. I remember leading up to Forza 3 release, all that came out of Dan Greenwalt's was Gran Turismo this, Gran Turismo that!!!

Er... in a second of that footage around 00:28 - was somebody really trying to race in a VW camper van, in the snow?

Wow, so that's why it's taken so long, it looks amazing, way better than prologue did.
  • BigDaddy82 #6 2 years ago

Not bad, not quite as good as the rain effects in F1 2010 though

EDIT: Why am i getting marked down? I'm not slating GT5, its just true though that F1 has better weather. Some people eh :)

It's at times like this that I'm thankful to have lived through the age of computer gaming that I did- being amazed by new graphics every couple of years, from the ASCII PC games that didn't even *have* graphics, through being wowed by colour graphics on the c64, the advent of 3D in the 16-bit era, how amazing the original PSX was, through to incredible stuff like this.

Kids in 10 years time won't have any of that.... they'll just expect computer games to look exactly like real life. Poor them!
  • riceNpea #9 2 years ago

oh my. that looks so good now i'm wet!

    can't wait
  • Scrumhalf #10 2 years ago

Just ordered a Logitech G27 for this - hope it arrives and has full support in the game :)
  • jefranklin18 #11 2 years ago

It's looking good. My frustrations with the lack of any information peaked a while ago, and I am now really looking forward to it. I just hope the article I read somewhere that cars & credits earned in Prologue can be transferred over is true. I have dug it out again and am amassing both, be frustrating if it is not the case :)
  • UncleLou #12 2 years ago

@linea: Same here. And my fascination with games is still fulled to a large degree by pure, naive enthusiasm for what's technically possible these days. I can tell myself it's all about the gameplay till the cows come home, deep inside I'll always hope for constant technical progress and shinier graphics. :)
  • mfnick #13 2 years ago

Getting really fucking sick of that Reach ad!

As for the trailer (when it finally started), it looks absolutely incredible!
  • Darren #14 2 years ago

Looks excellent, especially as weather and night-time hasn't featured very heavily in the majority of this gen's serious racing games together, it's usually one or the other... if we're lucky. Forza Motorsport 3, good as it is, didn't have them either which was a shame because it does add variety as well as extra challenge to the game. Weather and night-time racing should be a prerequisite for any current gen racing simulation anyway not a bonus at this point.

Good that Polyphony Digital have made the effort and it's looking like Gran Turismo 5 could be the ultimate serious racing game this generation assuming the developers have got the A.I. right as it was always predictabe and dull in the earlier games.
  • andromeda #15 2 years ago

    ok.
    Now I understand.
    Looks amazing.
  • NimbusTLD #16 2 years ago

    Looks genuinely amazing!

But seriously though, who's going to actually drive in cockpit view when you can choose a view where you can see properly out of all the time? I know I loved the water-on-windscreen effects in DiRT 2 but not enough to blind myself for a second whenever I drove in water.
  • M4RKYB #17 2 years ago

    linea

I think the same thing all the time. Sometimes i wish I could go back and show the old me stuff like this and watch my jaw drop in amazement. I actually remember playing Lotus Esprit on the Amiga and thinking that graphics won't get much better than that.
  • HistoryTeller #18 2 years ago

Amazing! Do want at wheel for my PS3.
  • Spekingur #19 2 years ago

Lets hope the end result will be a proper racing game rather than graphics praisefest.
  • DavoTheDiv_2010 #20 2 years ago

Holy shite, that looks crazy good!!
  • 00.00.01 #21 2 years ago

OMG....I think I just wet myself...
  • butler` #22 2 years ago

    Jebus that's pretty.
  • NotSoSlim #23 2 years ago

Looks amazing and while the rain effects are not as detailed as F1 they are still amazing and love the fact that the wind screen wipers are on as touches like that make GT what it is.

Obviously it looks amazing but if people want to know about the gameplay then look at previews thats what they are there for. Plus be we see a demo late October.
  • Diomedes #24 2 years ago

I can hardly believe how good this looks .....I am about to do some mad thing and order a Logitech G27 and a Wheel Stand Pro ....this game deserves to be played properly!
  • Ringot #25 2 years ago

    I think I just came
  • Widge #26 2 years ago

I'd love to see how the cockpit + rain looks via 3D.
  • Miths #27 2 years ago

Wow! Very impressive weather and night effects - even after watching a slew of F1 2010 videos lately.
  • S2K #28 2 years ago

    @Diomedes

I have actually done the same thing in anticipation for this release...I have both my G27 and Wheel Stand Pro, and its the best setup I have ever had...all I need is a PS3 now!! Definately, GT5 will be one of the more defining killer apps for this generation of consoles.
  • makeamazing #29 2 years ago

@linea, I show my kids old spectrum games that i loved and they just laugh at me :)

Anyway, have to admit that looked amazing... i really didnt like prologue, but this looks like another level indeed.
  • Numbat #30 2 years ago

Know I'll be marked down for this, but looks very much like the weather effects on PGR4 - not that that's a bad thing - I think they are excellent. Looking forward to playing this.
  • minimong #31 2 years ago

Nice.I have a feeling this may be the game that persuades me to buy a PS3.
  • jrb #32 2 years ago

why is it weather effects in games always fit in to the same old categories? Rain. Fog. Snow. It rains at night. it's foggy and snowy in the day. what kind of crazy world do video games live in?

I'd love to see more games with night time winter weather.. night-time snow, with accurately modelled acoustics.
  • Rowlsten #33 2 years ago

Wow! Very excited about this now!!

....And are those glowing brake discs!?!
  • Caimbeul #34 2 years ago

That doe actually look pretty stunning. Fingers crossed it plays as good as it looks!
  • Grievous1976 #35 2 years ago

So why the hell couldn't TURN 10 do weather effects? I have now defected
  • Caimbeul #36 2 years ago

@jrb - imagine trying to race at night in the rain, snow or fog! it looked difficult enough in the day. I also thought that one of the city tracks was wet at night (no jokes please!)
  • dsmx #37 2 years ago

GT3 had racing in the wet at night, was rather interesting going round in a dodge viper.
  • Gunhappy23 #38 2 years ago

Just got a ps3 for this game alone !!!! Always said i would get one for this game the more i see videos like this the more i want it!!!! Forza 3 was rushed when i first got the game there was no gear change animation untill the first update Forza 3 was a good game but GT5 will be a GREAT GAME!!!!
  • Rrralphster #39 2 years ago

    o.0 ...
    VW Transport Mk I.
Not sure but in the second scene with that VW there were more "classic" cars :)

And yes, this and a few other games make the PS3 worthwhile.
  • SavageEvil #40 2 years ago

Finally they have the video up but it's hella choppy, on GTP they have multiple videos and they are HD quality up to 720p. The weather effects are random, you can only give a rough idea of what type of weather you want, the system takes cares of the rest and simulates it according to air pressure, temperature and I forgot the other one. It also affects the physics as well, Yamauchi says that these are for the pro players but everyone is urged to give it a whirl. Head on over to GTP and check out some of the Night Driving on Le Mans, with full headlights in action.

I've been waiting many years for GT5 to grace my system and have already pre ordered by Collectors Edition, in just a few short weeks I will have my copy and whilst it installs I will check out my booty that I pilfered and gloss over the Apex book. Haven't seen any of the F1 2010 videos to say anything about weather effects, but considering that the F1 cars have very little windshield, there really isn't much to it's visual prowess except for watching the water kick up on cars' tires and watching the beads getting pushed backwards at speed. In fact I'll go watch some of them right now, be back with thoughts.
  • Macross #41 2 years ago

looking forward to this, and to everyone who is comparing it and forza, dont forget the rather massive difference in development time of course gt is gonna have more features and look better its had about 4 times the dev cycle to get everything perfect.

each game wins in its own way and im sure il enjoy gt5 more for the wait, just as im thankful for turn 10 to give me something to drive while ive been waiting for it.
  • captain_ginge #42 2 years ago

    I can't wait for this!!
  • NeoKenzi #43 2 years ago

I'm loving this game everytime I see something new... I'm buzzing for this! Come On November!
  • jebus #44 2 years ago

    @BigDaddy82

Not bad, not quite as good as the rain effects in F1 2010 though

EDIT: Why am i getting marked down? I'm not slating GT5, its just true though that F1 has better weather. Some people eh :)

I totally agree with you - the rain effects in F1 are much better imo.
You are getting marked down because there are a load of childish fan boys on here I assume and they don't want you to have an opinion
