Certainly looks pretty.

Pity GT isn't my kind of driving game. My experiences of it seemed to look entirely like that section just after 2 mins where he span and crashed a lot, and nothing at all like the bits where he went round corners quite quickly without hitting anything.

Looks amazing but looks like it still suffers from GT syndrome:

- Sterile racing
- No sense of speed
- Very basic collision handling (check 1.58 and 2.50 where there's contact + a pile up and a crash into tyres, but nothing happens to the driver in the Scooby)

I love the sense of driving the car and being in the cockpit that that demo gives. I'd not been too fussed about GT5 before this.

Looks like that trade off is always going to exist between looks and realism. Looks great, I wish they could put the Forza physics into this graphics engine.

Does look lovely, but this unfortunately highlights (a) a pretty lightweight damage model, and (b) the usual thick-as-planks 'AI' rigidly sticking to the racing line to the exclusion of all else.

edit: Oh and to save you clicking your minus buttons, I'm still actually the worlds biggest GT fan, but you can't deny what's shown in the video.

Looks alright but then we knew that already from GT5 Prologue. Damage modelling looks fairly convincing though, better than most other racing games I've seen, and no-one does car models better than Polyphony Digital.

It's how it plays that concerns me though because the earlier games, even GT5 Prologue, have predictable A.I. and a weak sense of speed that makes the actual racing a bit... well... dull. There's no denying the attention to detail elsewhere though, PD know their cars and it shows.

The damage doesn't look particularly realistic, nor the collisions. But I'm sure they have time to iron these out before release.

Very disappointed with the damage modelling and collision physics. If this is what has delayed GT5 for the last couple of years then I'd rather they left it out..

Looks pretty dull to be honest. Pretty but dull. To me the graphics don't really look much better than games like Grid that have already been out for 6 months and the physics still do not seem that improved. I used to love GT but its competitors have caught up with the series and in many areas, over taken it.

I really hope this is either fairly old code or that they are planning on doing some serious work on the AI during the final months of development.
There are so many things I love about GT, but the AI definitely isn't one of them, and to me GT5P level AI (which doesn't seem to have improved in this video given their oblivious ramming into the player and each othher) can really ruin the single player experience.

The players car was the only car to show any form of damage, and not very realistic damage imo, despite several AI cars practically ramming you at full speed.

Look at the replay at the 4 minute mark and you will see what i mean.

Looks nice though.

Awful AI, it seems to be stuck in GT1 levels, I mean, it's even more obvious in the replay: the cars behind, when faced with something out of the ordinary, like a car stopped in the middle of the road, simply fail to react and ram into it...

Well in terms of scope than only Forza can compete. But I meant in other areas like graphics, damage modelling, physics and AI which I think even simpler games like Grid and Dirt do a far better job at making you 'feel' like a racing driver.

Perhaps I'm comparing apples and pears but it worries me when I see the same old sterile GT replays.

Really basic damage and AI, the replay after 4 mins show this with no doubt. No damage to opponents either - so what's the point?!. Less cars on track now aswell 10 vs 16 before?. It looks pretty but that's to be expected with the basic looking physics.

Pretty graphics, but a serious let down for me. Forza has really stepped up it's game for me. Lighting I give to GT, but everything else i give to Forza..... What was up with the motionblur on the tires.... i thought they fixed that with GT5P. The static AI, and the damage modeling was a complete let down. Personally i think Dirt and Grid have the better damage modeling, but several cars railroaded the player and wall we get is a swinging door and a loose bumper... Wow.....

I've owned more GT games (GT1 and GT5:P) than Forza games (Forza 2). I don't go in for my-console-has-a-bigger-penis argument. And did I make any references to Forza?

As for your arguments:

1. Physics has nothing to do with the feeling of sterility. You fly off one one there.

2. My real life car (2004 Impreza WRX) is slower compared to the Scooby shown here (2008/9 WRX STi) but you wouldn't think it watching this video. That Impreza crawls along. I'm not sure why all GTs have felt like this- perhaps the engine doesn't simulate depth perception correctly? Agreed Forza 3's rewind feature (stolen from Grid) is arcadey.

3. How can a physics-based feature such as collisions be "basic" and "very good"? How good or bad it is is dependant how realistic it is- and you yourself said it's basic.

I've always loved the GT series but in this gen? I do not see anything here to make me interested in GT again. Feel as though I've seen and played it all before, which is a shame. I guess there are always new gamers coming into the frame though and they'll love this. If they have a PS3.

Undeniably extremely pretty but very poor AI and damage modelling, which is surely inexcusable for a game claiming to be a racing simulation. Reminded me more of PGR if anything (which is still excellent). The bouncing tyres looked good though.

GT fans, I wouldn't worry about the lack of damage. If Forza's anything to go by 99% of people turn it off anyway because they don't want to risk driving with a damaged car! As for realistic physics, again Forza can do this amazingly well, but seeing as practically everyone races with driver aids on, Forza's often used as little more than your average arcade racer. So although this isn't a game for me being a 360 owner, I don't think any of the advantages Forza fans boast about really enter into the argument. So enjoy your GT and we'll enjoy our Forza. There's no reason for either side to say anything about the other!

For ppl that says the car looks slow, that's because of the damage it took. When damaged the car don't go more then 4th gear. GT is one of the more precise games, (see youtube video posted above with the F1 car) if not the more precise game about real sense of speed, and lap times. In real life the sense of speed changes allot depending on the car you driving, if you go whit a Fiat Panda at 120km it fells you are going faster, if you go at same speed in a comfort car, like a big ass Mercedes it fells you go at half the speed you really are going. And in the comfort of your sofa you don't fell the G Forces or the adrenaline you fell in Real Life, but the speed of the GT cars, and the time they take to do a lap it very accurate to the real life.

Erm...no.

That's because of sound (cheap cars = noise) and trepidation (cheap cars = shakes, rattles).

Since you can't feel trepidation and surely don't want the constant wind and asphalt noise on your ears during a game, sense of speed is all about visual cues.

And those should be the same on a Fiat and a Ferrari.

The lighting looks great in the game as do the graphics. Think it looks to slow, there was a time on the straight when the Scooby was going around 150 and I did not get that sense of speed.

Bear in mind that the speedo was in kph, not mph, yet I'd still admit that it looked oddly slow. I think it's because the camera position chosen for the 'in car' view in the older games must have been lower than it has to be now. The higher your viewpoint, the slower your speed of movement feels.

Absolutely no improvement in the AI then. It couldn't even avoid stationary cars stuck in the road. The last red car just drove straight in to them just like it would have in GT3.

Looks Good yes, but the damage model looks rubbish. Not the most important thing but still very important as one of the major elements that gel the whole package together. I am just not sure about this !!!???
