looks like a step backwards after having played loads of forza

i'll get it if it has the top gear test track on
  • ukBoodhunter #2 2 years ago

    Ewww terrible looking graphics

I'll probably get it, but I have lost hope for GT5..

also, using sprites for crowd? They've obviously tried to do too much and the look of the game has obviously suffered, and the car looks like it is completely separated from the track..

    Wish I had an xbox..
  • Crembo #3 2 years ago

Wow, is this for real? Is this the GT5 hyped by all fanboys of PS3? I mean, c'mon, this is just horrible!
  • sharky_ob #4 2 years ago

That doesn't look that great really does it? Doesn't help that it's being played by someone who has no idea how to steer properly with the analogue stick. I hope they're using a pad anyway!
  • ronuds #5 2 years ago

Well, for all the talk about how much better GT5 would look than Forza 3 - I'm not seeing it. It's still a good looking game, though.
  • jag10 #6 2 years ago

this isn't a GT5 demo, it's a time trial competition for Gran Tourismo Academy 2010. people who get the highest scores go to the next phase of the competition.
  • Shakey_Jake33 #7 2 years ago

I think people mean 'bland' in the sense of the textures being completely devoid of detail, aside from the cars.
  • jerrymanu #8 2 years ago

:C If this wasn't GT and judging by this video alone, I wouldn't buy it. TBH, I'm a little bit disappointed, it looks kinda shite. I only hope that in the flesh it looks more atmospheric and plays well. Not holding my breath though :C
  • dsmx #9 2 years ago

Possibly because the GT5 engine isn't running perfectly at the moment while the one used in this game and the demo stuff before is running smoothly.

  • ronuds #10 2 years ago

Everywhere I've seen has called this a GT5 demo. Just that it only includes a certain portion of the game.

People acting like the game is going to be any different are thinking wishfully. I'm sure if the graphics blew the doors off Forza 3 then suddenly this would be a demo for GT5 again. :D
  • SAH1977 #11 2 years ago

This isn't a GT5 demo, it's a one off time trial that doesn't feature any of the new features. In fact no one has seen the latest GT5 build and it's damage model apart from a behind the scenes demo to a select few journalists.
  • ronuds #12 2 years ago

So PD made an entirely separate game just for one track and car and called it a GT5 demo to fool us?

    They're sneaky, sneaky bastards.
  • Caimbeul #13 2 years ago

GT HD & GT5 Prologue are better lloking than Forza 3, whilst i am generally pissed off at the constant delays for the game i think the game will still look good.
  • Caimbeul #14 2 years ago

jerky video......urgh come on EG its a known issue that your vids are jerky...please try and sort them out.
  • LOLLERS #15 2 years ago

If the GT5 engine isn't running perfectly at the moment...then what have they been doing for the last 3 years?
  • El-Dev #16 2 years ago

    Roll on Thursday.
  • ronuds #17 2 years ago

It's not GT5 or the GT5 engine, though. It's just being called that everywhere.

    PD should sue.
  • sonsonate #18 2 years ago

    *sigh*

This must be an old build -- I hope to God it is an old build!

I also hope whoever was playing learned what red and blue means...

'So PD made an entirely separate game just for one track and car and called it a GT5 demo to fool us?

    They're sneaky, sneaky bastards.'

You do realise this is a GT Academy promotion for Nissan?

It features a basic track and revised physics.

It doesn't feature day/night transitions, weather, dynamic lighting, head tracking or a damage model that effects everyhing from suspension geometry to bodywork, and can end your drive with one crash, all of which are expected in the final title.

Sony have even stated this shouldn't be considered a GT5 demo, but why let facts get in the way......

  • TRUTH #22 2 years ago

Dirt 2 has the best graphics and physics (though the game has bit to much arcade it it).

Wasn't to impressed with this demo - I suppose once you seen solid graphics (Dirt 2, Forza 3, Grid, Motor Storm etc etc) GT 5 if even better; most people won't notice the graphical improvement over other games already out!
  • MaxiSleep #23 2 years ago

    Track lighting looks horribly flat.
  • Verminox #24 2 years ago

THIS IS NOT A DEMO OF GT5!!!!!!

It's a time trial challenge for GT academy. The only thing this has in common with GT5 is the physics, you can tell from TGS and Gamescom videos that the graphics are better. They obviuosly took alot out to fit it into a 220mb download.

  • Softie2k #25 2 years ago

Looks like some of the talent from Polophony Digital have left for other development houses.

If this isn't the final version of GT5 what's the use in demoing something that is so short on quality. The first GT was ground breaking, but too many other developers have pathed over GT's dominance and it shows from this demo.
  • Verminox #26 2 years ago

Their demoing it to promote GT Academy and find a new driver not to show off GT5, wish people would take 2 minutes of their time to read a fucking article.
  • tachometer #27 2 years ago

Shocking! How can they take so long and still look worse than forza?
  • EvilBob_leeds #28 2 years ago

What an odd thread. What I presume to be the Forza defence force have all come out of hiding.

Seriously, the number of people on this thread who've either barely posted on EG, or who've not posted for fucking aeons but have broken their silence to have a pop at something GT related is pretty amazing. But if all you wanted to say was "lol not a good a forza!!111!!!!" then why not fuck off instead.

  • LOLLERS #29 2 years ago

This IS a demo of GT5, There's no way Sony would allow it to be used in this way if it weren't!!

  • Verminox #30 2 years ago

    @LOLLERS -

"With that said, someone with access to the demo also received an email from Sony that wanted to emphasize this is not a demo of Gran Turismo 5, and is only being released for GT Academy. Polyphony Digital has also posted a new press release, clearly stating the demo was “specifically designed for this competition to showcase the realism of the brand-new physics engine” and nothing more." via GTPlanet

THIS IS NOT A DEMO OF GT5
  • LOLLERS #31 2 years ago

    Oh Sony...

They should rename it Gran Turismo Forever

  • BAM! #32 2 years ago

The cockpit view shits on Forza's tbh, especially the shadows. Also although not seen in this demo GT5 has 16 cars on the track simultaneously compared to Forza's 8. And let's not forget that GT5 is running at a 50% higher native resolution.
  • Badassbab #33 2 years ago

    Videos don't do games justice.
  • dr_zoidthrob #34 2 years ago

It's got less smoke than Forza 3. Which is saying something, cos that's got bugger all.
  • ronuds #35 2 years ago

"What an odd thread. What I presume to be the Forza defence force have all come out of hiding."

So the opposite of every Forza thread then? What's good for the goose never ends up being good for the gander, I guess!

And nobody's saying this demo has all of the assets of GT5, but the graphics are GT5 graphics, which is what most people are commenting on. They wouldn't release this and call it a GT5 demo if it had nothing to do with GT5.
  • Vin #36 2 years ago

Sorry, but that damn elevator music needs a kicking, stat.
  • Spekingur #37 2 years ago

Old build? How old? Very old? Just a little old?

No smoke. No tiremarks. And from the video it almost seems that the vehicle is floating when viewed from above and behind.
    In this build.

Also, I believe that GT5 isn't going to be a car sim. The developers made it clear a while ago that it would be more akin to car pron (ooh, pretty shiny car! etc).
  • Bigglesworth #38 2 years ago

    Colossus80 nailed it.

This is footage, from a classic racetrack, on a non-race day, with a single-car doing time-trial, driven by a nonce on a d-pad.

Contrast with a shiny Abu Dhabi (or a street circuit), with full stands on race day, with a full grid, and a car driven properly with a wheel (or even an analogue stick!).

The resulting footage is vastly different.
  • Hydrogene #39 2 years ago

From what I can see, Digital Foundry is a better and cleaner driver than Eurogamer... :)
  • JamieR #40 2 years ago

Takes gt5 off his list lost interest in it just looks like the makers are not progressing i hope this isn't gt5 and just some rubbish like the gt hd thing they released.
  • Pungza #41 2 years ago

    This is GT5 [link url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w76dGdY0CY&feature=rec-LGOUT-exp_fresh+div-1r-1-HM
    ]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1w76dGdY0...[/link]

lol at all the forza fanboys, they keep quite when PD release videos such as those above, but when they hear about a compressed demo with low quality they crawl out of their caves...

Now can people stop referring to this 'demo' as being GT5 as they are two completely seperate things apart from the physics.

  • Power_n_Glory #42 2 years ago

They can't release that! Push it back again. It looks bland.
  • freakzilla #43 2 years ago

I'll reserve full judgement till I've played this build myself but that looks worse than prologue sometimes. Textures seem to suffered a lot and nothing looks as sharp as prologue.

Again, I'll wait till I get to play it to make a full judgement but so far its not not blowing my mind.
  • freakzilla #44 2 years ago

I think I have an explanation. Head-tracking, the whole sony motion thing takes up one SPU so I'm guessing headtracking has a similar effect.
  • Godhather08 #45 2 years ago

I almost never post here, and the reason why is the amount of morons that post here. Ciao.
  • DrStrangelove #46 2 years ago

Let's just wait till Thursday when we can see for ourselves.
  • srankin16 #47 2 years ago

I think it looks fine, no where near as good as previously shown gameplay demo's but fine none the less. Can't remember where they were shown but it looked better than this. Prologue looks better than this and I doubt they will be going backwards with graphics.

Probably a good reason for this is the fact that the 'demo' is a 200mb download! How good where the textures really going to be in a download that's similar in size to a PSN game?

It's not a demo and I'm sure it doesn't represent the quality of the full game (how could it?), its a Time Trial challenge mode for free.
  • Widge #48 2 years ago

  • RustyBullet #49 2 years ago

Sorry but that looks so generic. and the sound ohhh the sound please stop with the crap tire sounds my ears are bleeding.
  • onlineatron #50 2 years ago

    Everyone bashing GT5... Don't.

This is not the final product, this is a 219mb file.

Of course it's going to take hits in the graphics department...
  • EvilBob_leeds #51 2 years ago

    Errr... slurdypig!

    A word from Polyphony

    To quote;

"The demo was specifically designed for this competition to showcase the realism of the brand-new physics engine and to challenge players’ driving skills using professional driving physics and many of the driving assists disabled"

So it's a physics showcase. And, to be fair poor physics is a criticism oft levelled at GT5P.

    Kablomble!

  • mr.smeg #52 2 years ago

So let me get this straight. Is this a demo of GT5 or not? If it is not why has eurogamer said so in the fucking title.
  • zisssou #53 2 years ago

Graphics are still not the bane of every game ffs...
  • Widge #54 2 years ago

I take it we're ignoring this screenshot then

  • Widge #55 2 years ago

The line "This is the demo version of Gran Turismo 5 which is being released in 2010" stands out a bit.
  • Zephro #56 2 years ago

No matter what Sony say it's a demo. They'd be bloody stupid to release something new with all sorts of stickers over it saying it's a really old build when the full thing is expected early next year.

Then again stranger things have happened.

It's demo, it's missing features but it's essentially what we'll get.
  • aphexstwin #57 2 years ago

its a 220mb download of two cars and a rather large circuit. so of course graphics may take a hit. as for floaty, ahem, no ones played this yet, so what does anyone know? physics? bit of a misnomer this one because 1. for pad drivers: you dont drive with a thumb and 2. theres no replication of g force on any game. i'll tell you what i do know tho: gt4/5p with a wheel shits all over forza with a wheel, and these games just have to be played with one
  • doomeh #58 2 years ago

Im hoping this is good. Remember Forza 1 demo? That was greeeeaaaat.
  • SAH1977 #59 2 years ago

If you are seriously interested in GT5 there is lots of info out there covering the titles ground breaking features, there really is no excuse to be ignorant.

Graphically, doesn't look anythin near as good the promo adverts that have been popping up for the last year or two...very meh
  • smelly #61 2 years ago

Normally im a gameplay over graphics person. But on the other hand they're marketing this ON it's graphics (with all this stuff about 1080p, etc).

And it's not particularly great looking is it?

I hope they at least get gameplay right, but something tells me that this will do that age old GT crap like sliding around walls... cant tell from video as to what the collision stuff is like (which is something i wanted to see.. bah)
  • Cuke #62 2 years ago

With the title screen of this 'demo' staring at my from my TV I can assure everyone that it actually says 'This is a demo of Gran Turismo 5'

Obviously doesn't say if it's anything like a final build... But it does say demo of GT5 which implies at the very least that the engine used is basicly the same regardless of what;s been removed....
  • dfooster #63 2 years ago

yes the graphics are bland, and the physics look bad next to forzas which was as most people expected anyway but the one thing that really bugs me about this more than anything else and it has been in every GT game so far (and no its not the elevator music either) but its the bloody stupid tyre squealing every time the car turns 2 degrees its squealing away like a demented fool. i bet its also got the stupid duh duh duuuuuuuh lights go green sound effect as well which annoys the shit out of me. Forza struggles to have some personality sometimes but next to GT its like being best mates with peter kaye. back to the bugatti veyron round silverstone for me and i shall leave the GT crowd with their head in their hands wandering what polyphony has done with a 130 years worth of development time.
  • gooseman42 #64 2 years ago

Well I'm sure the finished product will make many eat their words, though I may be drawing my pension by the time it comes out.
The problem with releasing this without a better/full build quality is potentially more damaging to PD and the franchise as a whole, they're not doing themselves any favours releasing it on the back of another finished Forza as many comments have suggested. If I were PD I'd want to be responding to Turn 10 with a demo that blew peoples socks off. Let's just wait (and wait) and see though.

  • Grievous1976 #68 2 years ago

The Same was said when the Forza 3 demo came out about it not being the final build well infact it was, Gran Turismo has definately lost its way.
  • Dogs-in-Hats #69 2 years ago

Disappointing graphics - repeating blurry road textures.
Doesn't help putting out renders as screenshots - naughty Sony
  • IneptPercy #70 2 years ago

I can't help but think we have seen to typres of demos for GT.

1, All out graphics. not much physics.
2, All out physics, not much graphics.

Basically both graphics and physics need a lot of power, can the PS3 do both at the same time?
  • Badassbab #71 2 years ago

I find videos dont do games justice. I'm certain this will look great. I found Forza 3 to be have good graphics (shame about the jaggies) and I'm sure GT5 will look better still as overall GT5P looked better than Forza 3
  • knightmt #72 2 years ago

Looks good for a sim, will wait to see how difficult it is.
  • BritishBlue1 #73 2 years ago

I see the resident Xbots are out in force deluding themselves into thinking Forza is any type of match...Face it, GT5 is in a league of it's own, you're only fooling yourselves.
  • SAH1977 #74 2 years ago

It would help if people did a little research, most of their queries have already been answered.
  • Spekingur #75 2 years ago

    @BritishBlue1:
So, you have played GT5 yet? You know, the GT5 that hasn't been released yet?
  • BritishBlue1 #76 2 years ago

"So, you have played GT5 yet? You know, the GT5 that hasn't been released yet?"

Of course I haven't played it, don't be a silly billy. I just *know* there's no way GT5 is going to be beaten, the Forza Perverts might as well slit their wrists now! GT5 is going to be awesome in the same way the Xbox Defence Force know it's going to suck...through the amazing powers of Buyer's Remorse.
  • CHAZBIGPOTATO #77 2 years ago

Will we ever see this game in our lifetimes? Or Alan Wake too, for that matter.
Want to play this alongside Starcraft Ghost, BC, and Duke Nukem forever
  • Welsh_Red_Devil #78 2 years ago

    excellent graphics.
i just wish i was old enough 2 drive 2 get into da academy.
  • Darren #79 2 years ago

Nicely modelled car with bland track visuals and plenty of noticeable screen tearing despite only one car on the track. Hmmmm.
  • altitude2k #80 2 years ago

To those who say this isn't a demo: after playing let me reiterate the text directly from the menu, "This is the demo version of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5, due for release in 2010."
