It's just a shame he got his perspective on Eurogamers from the comments section, the forum is where it's at!

I remember there was a really good Gears community at EG for quite a while, sadly before I had Live! no doubt this game will rekindle that.

The campaign looks fantastic, but I'm most looking forward to the horde mode...and obviously seeing Carmine return :D

I want kudos for not just typing wanker in block caps.
  • Ps3-ID-MCSN #3 4 years ago

"lol not bad but killzone 2 will kick its arse "

He may seem very arrogant, but you can’t deny that the man has almost single handily sold gears of war, and he is extremely good at knowing what the audience want! Thank god there are people out in the industry that can actually deliver on there promises!

Looking forward to it...plot wise the 1st could be criticised but the best games have minute to minute atmosphere which is the most important thing (Kane & Lynch had a great plot, characters, but not the atmos), which is why these boys & Monolith are making some of the best games...oh and like the Lith their voice acting talent seems really good too...tis not just what you say but how it's said and if that fits with the character design...which in these games it does stunningly well, even if the storylines not for you, this and Project Origin i cannae wait to play

  • mazzl #10 4 years ago

    @ps3-id-mcsn
shall we wait till 2010 when kz2 is actually released :p

i liked what i saw. will probebly get this :)
  • daft #11 4 years ago

I find it a bit strange people are so offended by Cliffy. He seems very level headed and obviously has a passion for making games. I like him.
  • Lukus #12 4 years ago

I like Cliff. I don't think he's arrogant at all, just confident in and enthusiastic about his product. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'd be tremendously arrogant if I'd helped create Gears of War.
  • topblood #13 4 years ago

killzone 2 = delay delay delay

killzone 2 = no boss battles same with killzone

killzone 2 is not better than gears of war 2

  • Slabbathepave #14 4 years ago

I like Cliff too... i like him more than all of you put together. If your reading this Cliff i like you the most. All these others are just chumps... not me. I think Cliffy B is a great nickname, ignore anyone that says otherwise.

I bet i like Cliff the most.
  • Biggles #15 4 years ago

Got nothing against Cliff, but at least he admits it's all a bunch of macho bollocks. I just think it's sad that this is the sort of game that has come to define gaming for so many people. You see the medium growing up in so many places and then you get this kind of lowest common denominator crap. Ah well... there's always world of goo to cheer me up : )
  • Mogul #16 4 years ago

wanker... no seriosly i like him and i liked gears 1. Gears 2 looks very impressive looking forward to this.
  • Yossarian #17 4 years ago

cool dude, doing what he loves, doesn't deserve the hate

I mean yeah you can level every and any criticism about the testosterone-drenched story, world and characters... but it's sort of missing the point. I will be there day one, playing co-op, having a good time shooting lizards from the Centre of the Earth.
  • IneptPercy #18 4 years ago

He is right, whatever you do you will get haters.

I am sure I am on some ignore lists as I made the comment "I won't buy a PS3 until its less than £200", now if I was to get upset by this then I would be in bother, they don't understand the difference between having bills to pay (gaming on a budget) and fanboyism.

So faced with such narrow minded people you can argue back (never works) or you can leave them to they happy little bubbles they live in and just hope they never reproduce.

It would seem Cliffy is doing the sensible thing and not worrying about the keyboard worriers of this forum (and others).

    Keep it 'badass'
  • psychokitten #19 4 years ago

"It's just a shame he got his perspective on Eurogamers from the comments section, the forum is where it's at!"

This is so true. The dickheads, fanboys and trolls are drawn more to the comments. Can't wait, the last game had excellent, fun co-op so I'm sure this will too.
  • Eraser #20 4 years ago

heh, CliffyB is a bit of a character, but he's a likable videogame industry icon. I'm obliged to say he's still a wanker though, as I'm from the Quake camp.... What you say? That feud ended 8 years ago? Oh, okay.
  • dfunked #21 4 years ago

"I'll find you and kick you in the bollocks"
haha, hopefully EG give it a 7 just for that amusing scenario
  • Zappa #22 4 years ago

Wanker ,ever hear of Killswitch!!!! or Metal Gear which started cover against a wall!

gears1.1 and it gay horde wave after wave is a massive fail- 7.8
  • Kiigan #23 4 years ago

It is true to say that the original Gears game, despite a few niggles here and there (Raam, and the story generally) was a beautiful, well realised, and innovative slice of videogame heaven. Really, Eurogamer's original review is a bit of an embarrassment, so I'm surprised to see it referred to frequently in this video.

Epic keep putting out decent games, and Cliff keeps making sense in every interview he does. So these internet idiots lining up to knock the guy or the games is pretty silly. There are games, and spokespersons, that better deserve your criticism.

The Kill.Switch thing is an interesting issue though. I'm probably the only one here who has actually played through that game and completed it. Yes, it has blind firing and a cover system, but go back and play it for yourself before you start claiming that Gears brought nothing new to the table. No game is born in a vacuum, every one owes a debt to those that have come before. Are you really surprised that Epic don't go out of their way to acknowledge the relatively minor contribution of Kill.Switch though?

  • Lexx87 #24 4 years ago

Hah why do they say "slagging" off as it pans down the comments saying I think he's awesome.
  • hugejeans #25 4 years ago

Theres about a core 12 of us that still play this nearly every night even two years later. So it must be doing something right. As for Cliff hes alright would love to play him on live to see if hes as good as his game.

Just wish 2 was 6v6 online but other than that cant wait to get stuck into this.
Gears 2 ,fallout 3 and left 4 dead thats me sorted till resi 5 comes out.
  • pbz #26 4 years ago

    WANKER

    ...couldn't resist :)
  • captainrentboy #27 4 years ago

Cool little interview there, Cliffy's summing up of the 'internet haterz' was pretty spot on.
Can't really see what's so bad about the guy, he wasn't continuously spouting PR bullshit, just a guy who's passionate about the product he's had a big part in.
  • Menace #28 4 years ago

Please get someone else to do the speaking for EG. This guys voice is really annoying - but even worse is the way he talks..
  • oliath #29 4 years ago

There are two men i would turn gay for.
    Cliffy B and Michael Bay.
  • asphaltcowboy #30 4 years ago

Great interview! Cliff has passion for what he does and it shows! Gears 2 is looking tremendous!
  • Slabbathepave #31 4 years ago

Oliath.... i wish you were dead.
  • barnettbeans #32 4 years ago

wanker :p Cliff your a legend ignore the tards. People with that level of intelligence know nothing of the development of games. Looks great cant wait
  • themorganator #33 4 years ago

He seems like a top bloke to me and this is a must purchase title!
  • n3utr0n #34 4 years ago

    Unreal > Qwaek

    That is all. ;)
  • Marviewarvie #35 4 years ago

You sure the "wanker" comments are for Cliff or they mistaking him for Craig Bellamy?

Which if they were mistaken, they ironically would be right.

    Funny how these things work.
  • MouzerMalti #36 4 years ago

I played GoW at my brother's in-law house (I don't own a 360), I'm not so looking forward for this game to be honest, then again this will probably be worth a night or two via split-screen :D
  • DB2k #37 4 years ago

my love you cliffyb. If you need someone to call you a wanker, tell you that they love Gears and let you buy them a beer then please call me when you're next in London.
  • wellsie #38 4 years ago

well now we know he reads the comments. he better come on and play a eurogamer night when the game comes out. I have a head stomp with his name on it
  • local_celebrity #39 4 years ago

  • GiNGHamster #43 4 years ago

Thumbs up Chris. Smart and forthright - not a bad combo. I hope he's stamped some of those qualities on to the game. In the meantime Eurogamer: how about NOT making the whole column left of the comments a sneaky link to Dekaron. It's definitely not smart or forthright....
