Gears of War 2 - Story documentary

Published 25 September, 2008 Duration 5:54

Shooters, given a few notable exceptions, aren't famed for their character development or story depth. The team behind Gears 2 want it to be one of those exceptions, bringing believable characters to life in an immersive world.

  • retr0gamer #2 4 years ago

    How could they put a love story into the gayest game since Cho Aniki?
  • Slabbathepave #3 4 years ago

    Epics games are so ridiculously macho i suspect that they only hire repressed homosexuals

    I would also like to add;

    GOD bless Americeeeeeer and i hope they do one day defeat those evil city destroying Arabs.... sorry... Locust.

    i think its wonderful that the gayer gamer has finally been catered for. but why do these guys think they are developing characters? there's about as much character in marco feenix as there is in a jar of vaseline.
    ....i wish i had a hispanic wisecracking sidekick.....

    There's a story?

    Hey, let's be fair to these guys. Compared to previous Epic games, having a character with more than one personality trait IS a step forward. Just as long as they don't think they're making the next Bioshock :-P

    Believable characters ? 'Sup, bitches?

    "Winter is coming on fast and its starting to get a little bit chilly, and humanity is in serious trouble because the locust are back".

    Hmmm, seems to me that it getting a "little bit chilly" is the least of humanity's worries, what with the locust and all. Good that CB felt it was important to keep us in touch with the Cogs' expected fuel bill pressures though.

    I think people are reading too much into it. Gears is a brainless fun action shooter. The biggest complaint with the last one was that there was no story at all. They just seem to be beefing up the storyline a bit and you can't do that unless your characters have at least some sort of depth.

    I think CB has become confused between "archetype" and "stereotype".

    And its kind of mildy funny that they talk about Marcus Fenix as if he is in any way a character with depth.

    wow, i thought the character animation was fantastic. then i realised it was mike capps....
    incidentally, its not johnny public reading too much into this, its Epic. they seem to think they can write a story, christ knows why.

    The difference between Gears of War and resident evil 4 is that Resi 4 is firmly planted in B-movie schlock while Epic seem to think that their awful story and steroetypes are almost high art. I'll probably enjoy GoW2 immensely but some of that enjoyment wil be from laughing at how bad the story is.

    @Donnely

    "If you're looking for good stories you're into the wrong hobby"

    Ummm, but it was Epic themselves that made the documentary, about how great their story was. You know, the documetary that we are commenting on?

    YEA, I BET THE STORY NARRATIVE TAKES LESS TIME TO READ THAN IT TAKES TO WATCH THIS VIDEO (or read this horrible comment, for that matter).

    here here RetrOgamer.
    the video is twaddle and a pretty clear indication that the positive press on GoW has gone to Epics collective heads.
