More rendered stuff. Lets have some gameplay clips please Konami!
  • Freek #3 6 years ago

It's not prerendered, it's real time in engine footage. Kojima doesn't do prerendered.
  • Les #4 6 years ago

Wish I could watch it but unfortunately Flash 8 and above aren't available yet under Linux. But if it's anything like the 15m trailer, it must be awesome. Kojima is the master of video game story telling.
  • absolutezero #5 6 years ago

I like how its all massively dark at the start, with all the death and Quaterback metal gears and then its all for nothing as the silly Otacon robot runs about and falls over.

It's MetalGear it's great... I worship Metal Gear and KoJimas pretentions to Hollywood greatness.

    Go Ko, GO!

Holy hell that was relentlessly bleak.
  • mazzl #12 6 years ago

    @Freek
sorry, but i just dont believe that this is in-game footage.
(do you happen to have any proof laying around)
if it actually is... i would have to change my mind about ps3 ;)
  • Les #13 6 years ago

It's all rendered with the game engine, in real time. Of course the movie is scripted and not actual gameplay.
  • tonynibbles #14 6 years ago

I can't understand people who don't believe this is in-game-engine footage.
Pick up a copy of MGS, MGS2 or MGS3 and look at any of the cut-scenes. They're all scripted and rendered in the in-game-engine: Just like the above video is, hinted at what the game world detail will look like, though not perfectly replicating the gameplay aesthetics.
  • Hughes. #15 6 years ago

Is Hideo having a little joke? Otacon says his robot has a cell processor, and it immediately falls on its arse.

I wasn't all that impressed with the early footage of this last year (and even then there were a few Kojima ignorant floks saying "That's pre-rendered!";), but each new video convinces me a little more that when people get an eyeful of this, £425 quid won't be so hard to part with.

Shame it won't be a launch title.
  • theweaze #16 6 years ago

Looking more and more bizarre each time, cant wait
  • SeesThroughAll #17 6 years ago

In some ways, this looks much better than the famous pre-rendered Killzone trailer.
  • Les #18 6 years ago

"In some ways, this looks much better than the famous pre-rendered Killzone trailer."

It does and so does the latest Gears of War footage. But by the time PS4 arrives, some people will still argue that the PS3 never matched the graphical quality of the Killzone trailer irrespective of whether it did or not...
  • Xerx3s #19 6 years ago

sorry, but i just dont believe that this is in-game footage.

Why not? It doesn't show anything that can't be/isn't done already. If it was rendered, it would look 10 times better. Next gen graphs just look that good (or should I say average now ;) ).
  • kangarootoo #20 6 years ago

It looks game engine to me. I don't think it is running as a game, that is to say I think its all discreetly animated, but it looks like its running in real time. As someone said, the same as the MGS cutscenes tend to be done.
  • Artemus #21 6 years ago

There's a vid about somewhere with Kojima manipulating the scenes to prove it's not rendered. Anyway, didn't we see this trailer last year? The only new bit was at the beginning. Snake design has changed since. He looks even older now.
  • SeesThroughAll #22 6 years ago

sorry, but i just dont believe that this is in-game footage.

Why is all this people saying that the MGS4 trailers are pre-rendered? Are these 360 fans in denial? Is it so hard to accept that the PS3 will be able to display good graphics as well?
  • Artemus #23 6 years ago

No, It's hard for 360 fanboys to accept that the PS3 will be able to display better graphics. Which is what this is doing.

    Awww bless.

Anyway, that moment with the little robot *almost* looks as good as Overblood.
  • CitizenGeek #25 6 years ago

    Brilliantly unusual trailer!

Kojima is a great story-teller, true. But no ne can deny that Square Enix (Yoshinori Kitase et al) are the best story tellers?
  • ccfb #26 6 years ago

    Stocking'd mechacows?

"Kojima is a great story-teller, true."
    lol
  • Pike #27 6 years ago

It looks good alright, but someone really should tell Kojima that he is a godawful writer. Holy shit that was a lot of incoherent nonsense crammed into one little trailer.
  • Azazel #28 6 years ago

lol, I love Japanese guys talking seriously about OUTAAR HEAVEN
  • Les #29 6 years ago

Just watched the video (in poor quality) on Gamespot. But still looks terrific indeed! I wonder if they used PES motion capture data for the kicks dealt by the cow-Robots...

But if you can't stand the Japanese way of story telling, than you should stay clear of this title. I personally can't get enough of it.
  • mazzl #30 6 years ago

so why is it hard for me to believe that this is "in game" footage.. well beceause then i would be very impressed, it just looks really nice.
and like hughes put's it so ellegantly
"425 quid won't be so hard to part with" ;)
  • Mordum #31 6 years ago

    @Artemus
I don't understand why some people think this is pre-rendered either. Afterall, the Halo 3 trailer, using the in-game engine, already looks more remarkable than the MGS4 trailers we've been getting. As for you saying the PS3 will be able to display much better graphics? I think the two consoles will be on a par, any difference will likely be hardly noticeable.
    Nice trailer though.
  • Moogrose #32 6 years ago

The issue for me is the first bit... the animations look unique to each NPC, which would be a real step forward if thats the way its gonna work.

The graphics look marvelous... i can't see why it wouldn't be real time. all that said, with the last MGS game i played a little bit of me died inside praying that the endless dialog would stop.

yes yes, i get it. not my game.
  • Artemus #33 6 years ago

    @Mordum

I was saying this looks better than anything I've seen on 360 so far. Kojima always delivers on the graphics front. MGS2 is still one of the best looking PS2 games, and that came out within the first year of the console's life. I do think we'll see better graphics on PS3. I thinking the difference between an Xbox and PS2.
  • Les #34 6 years ago

"Afterall, the Halo 3 trailer, using the in-game engine, already looks more remarkable than the MGS4 trailers we've been getting."

You've got to be kidding. It's a nice looking HD trailer, I agree but absolutely nothing happens in there.
  • Xerx3s #35 6 years ago

Artemus, taking it a bit over the top, are we? It sure looks good, but not mindblowing. There are many games in dev or already out that look just as good if not better than this. You shouldn't fall to much over these graphs, they are pretty standard and nothing compared to what we will see in 2 years time.

You've got to be kidding. It's a nice looking HD trailer, I agree but absolutely nothing happens in there.

Wasn't that exactly bungies attempt? Just show what the 3d engine will do (extremely large maps with lots of very nice looking stuff without a glitch) without telling anything about the story? I think this is more a point of different marketing campaigns (bungie doesn't show anything of the story and MGS shows teasers).

EDIT: In fact, from what I know, the H3 trailer part of the map was specially made for the E3, you prolly won't even see it in the game (just like halo 2).

  • SentientNr6 #36 6 years ago

    Actually I liked this trailer.
    Not the kicking robots though.

As far the graphics, well they are very good but nothing that can't be done on a 360 or decent PC.
To be honest I'd rather have seen a gameplay movie, guess we'll have to be patient for that.
  • Artemus #37 6 years ago

    Care to name those?

You shouldn't fall to much over these graphs, they are pretty standard and nothing compared to what we will see in 2 years time

So you think MGS3 was a big leap over the second, because I didn't?

"Wasn't that exactly bungies attempt? Just show what the 3d engine will do (extremely large maps with lots of very nice looking stuff without a glitch) without telling anything about the story?"

Could be but the rendering of a huge area in which nothing happens is completely different from what Kojima shows. Might be down to marketing strategy, but I'd think the busy and heavily animated MGS4 trailer will tax the hardware more than the empty plain of the H3 trailer, however big and clean.

But it's quite funny that the story driven MGS4 isn't afraid to show some teasers whereas the game that's not exactly famous for it's story telling wants to keep everything a secret. But there are many different ways for generating hype.

"It sure looks good, but not mindblowing. There are many games in dev or already out that look just as good if not better than this."

Like Artemus, I'm quite curious to know which games you mean. I didn't see them in any case.

    Heh. ;)

Like Artemus, I'm quite curiuos to know which games you mean. I didn't see them in any case.

I suggest you take a look at the PC/360/PS3 release list. Most games using the U3 engine alone look better already (and thats alot of games) and then there are the games on the farcry/crysis engines (they blow this away).
  • Les #40 6 years ago

"Most games using the U3 engine alone look better already (and thats alot of games) and then there are the games on the farcry/crysis engines (they blow this away)."

Those two engines show very pretty graphics indeed (not surprising as most screenshots/videos appear to be from the PC versions), though, except maybe from Crysis itself, I wouldn’t say they look better than the MGS4 video. Rather the contrary. But then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

"I wonder if they used PES motion capture data for the kicks dealt by the cow-Robots... "

Even Stevey G would be proud of some of those kicks. why have ultra realism when you can have these crazy robo cow like things. wicked!
