I hope he celebrated with a nice piece of cake.
  • geeza2020 #2 1 year ago

Whats the point? 9 minutes, fantastic, now howsabout playing the game like a normal human being and enjoying it?
  • Xabarin #3 1 year ago

Actually, he DID get cake at the end of this playthrough.
  • MadDave123 #4 1 year ago

Oh god, the singing, MAKE IT STOP! >_
  • Denny #5 1 year ago

Can we change the headline to 'Gamer annihilates Portal Music in 3 mins'?
  • jonharrispro #6 1 year ago

how much time must it have taken to get to know the game this well? scary!!!
  • fiery_jackass #7 1 year ago

    >geeza2020
at a guess this probably isn't the first time he's played the game and, probably, he's completed it several times as a normal human being.
  • midnight_walker #8 1 year ago

But... he cheated all the way through. That's not an achievement.
  • kangarootoo #9 1 year ago

    @geeza2020

    "Whats the point?"

Did you words "world" and "record" not give you a clue?

I'm not sure the guiness book of records is yet interested in recording for posterity who "had the loveliest time" playing Portal. Maybe one day though, eh.
  • Phishfood #10 1 year ago

Wow he got the cake and the companion cube!
  • kangarootoo #11 1 year ago

What was the singing at the end? Was it out of key as a joke? My ears!
  • Spydy #12 1 year ago

It's like deja-vu. I see a story posted on the GAF then a day later it arrives on Eurogamer.
  • Buztafen #13 1 year ago

He seemed to be firing more than 1 of each portal though. Surely that's cheating, therefore making the achievement a falsehood.
  • chiz #14 1 year ago

What a raping of a fantastic song

Does the Guiness Book of Records record for posterity Portal speed runs at all?

Tbh, though using glitches like this does require some skill, I find no glitch speed runs more interesting. And I do think it's a form of cheating, like running a 400m race but cutting the corners.

    Go ahead, neg away.
  • SEVQA #16 1 year ago

    @midnight_walker

Using glitches is not cheating as it's part of the code which is not being altered. Hacking or modifying on the other hand is.

If the qa testers did not catch it and the devs wont patch it then it's fair game to those who have found glitches that can be used to an advantage.

He can have his cake and eat it...in 9 minutes.
  • jonsaan #18 1 year ago

If you glitch then how can it be a record?
  • SeesThroughAll #19 1 year ago

    This isn't a speed-run, it's an exploit-run!
  • M83J01P97 #20 1 year ago

Don't Guinness have strict rules about not using cheats/glitches in order to get into their book(s)? I'm sure in this year's Gamers edition there is a big disclaimer about cheating not being allowed after some of the first 'records' were found to have been achieved by using cheats.

epic skills but, what a ferociously sad cunt he must be
  • geeza2020 #22 1 year ago

Been getting loads of negs, but you know its true. Wheres the acheivement here? Congratulations you beat a game in 9 minutes, that required nothing but looking up all the different glitches on the internet. A waste of time. World record? Bollocks. Who the fuck gives a shit? Its hardly up there with being the fastest man in the world, or strongest or smartest is it?
  • coolbritannia #23 1 year ago

keep gaming kid, singing is not for you.
  • reddin321 #24 1 year ago

If you go to his youtube channel ( Transgenic86 ) he also has commentary videos in which he explains everything he does, and then does it again.
I found it interesting to watch.

Bullshit. If he wants to glitch his way to the end of the game and shout about how many glitches are in Portal, fine. But you can't then gloat about how you beat Portal in 9 minutes. Now if you could stop negging everyone that disagrees with you, that would be excellent.

@geeza2020 : It's an achievement because it shows how much they understand the game. Look up the Speed Demos Archive (http://speeddemosarchive.com/) and take a look at what some of these guys do. It _is_ mostly about glitches, I agree, but that's part of the challenge, learning lots of little shortcuts and using skill to perform ridiculous feats to bend the rules of the game.

The speed demo scene all started when a guy finished Quake in 20 minutes, while when I saw the first level of Brood War done in 1:09 then I thought it was amazing (Micro-managing Zeratul to a fine point isn't down to luck). I'm not giving out medals or anything, but lots of people think it's amusing to see this sort of thing done.

@ midnight_walker: But you can't then gloat about how you beat Portal in 9 minutes.
Why not? Technically he did, and without cheating or hacking the game.

I guess I see it in the same light as film geeks who (this is just for examples sake) would re-watch a film, say, 20 or 30 times, finding all the little continuity errors and shots where an extra is looking at the camera or a member of the crew wanders into shot, and then shouting about it on the internet like they are something amazing. Sure, fantastic, you found all of these errors (or glitches in this case) but you're totally missing the point of the entire game/film.

Oblivion in eleven minutes is still my favourite.

And speed run using glitches is fine - it's not the same thing as a speed run using the proper rules of the game, but it's another challenge in and of itself. Often fun to watch too.
  • E-Raz0r #29 1 year ago

HAHAHA the singing at the end is worth it alone. Guess he just played it so often so that he could sing along to the credits.
  • Kilroy #30 1 year ago

Honestly, I'm more bothered about his constant shivering mouse-aim-thing. Bloody annoying to watch.
Other than that, was it quite interesting to see his knowledge of the game.
  • gjgjg #31 1 year ago

redoculous... are we sure this isnt a hack/mod..?

either way, fair play u ya!
  • Alkeno #32 1 year ago

He spent more time inside the elevators than actually playing. Impressive.
  • GitSomE_UK #33 1 year ago

Very impressive.... BUT....Will someone please buy him another game, is this the only game the guy had in his cell?

Gaming OCD at its finest this.

I don't mind the singing as bad it is... it's a reminder that there is still a spark of humanity left in this poor fella.
  • Blazewamp #34 1 year ago

so its not record time its glitch time fail!
  • smelly #35 1 year ago

Would you say someone who uses a warp pipe in mario to get a speed run done was cheating?

He's not using any cheats, he's doing everything in the confines of the game with the equipment at his disposal.

Sad as fuck? Yes. (but then so is moaning about his acheivment afterwrds).. Cheating? No.
  • KYUSS #36 1 year ago

That was fun... Until the singing started :p
