Still can't get over those faces.. although they kind of look like the Evian rollerskating babies.
  • AnsemsApprentice #3 1 year ago

Well, my worries about the gameplay were clearly unfounded. Looks pretty damn good; interesting at least. Look forward to more, I smell a gem here :p. Hope I'm on the money.

Looks so good. I'm so excited.

Got that same feeling I had when I first saw RDR gameplay.

    GTA:V then? :p

The lip synching is very good.
  • kalinichenko #7 1 year ago

Seriously, i need to get a console just for this game.
  • evild_edd #8 1 year ago

Bloody hell, this has just gone right up in my predictions. As long as there's not too much open-world nonsense then this is looking like a day 1 purchase for me...!
  • Emmit_Assassin #9 1 year ago

After GTA 4, which IMO was abysmal, I was sceptical Rockstar could better GTA3 + VC. Then RDR popped up and all worries were allayed. Now this looks like Rockstar have plenty more ideas up their sleeve and are not just content with raping GTA for all its worth a la CoD.
  • NewbieZilla #10 1 year ago

"Now this looks like Rockstar have plenty more ideas up their sleeve and are not just content with raping GTA for all its worth a la CoD. "

Yeah, it must be Rockstar with all the ideas. It couldn't possibly be the developers, Team Bondi.
  • atrimus #11 1 year ago

looks pretty sweet! any word on which version the trailer is based on?
  • Daeltaja #12 1 year ago

Gobsmacked by the facial animations. This is exactly the kind of technology thats needed to move the industry forward in the storytelling department.

    Roll on May.
  • jenguin #13 1 year ago

The Playstation icons give it away somewhat.
  • Paul_cz #14 1 year ago

RDR was made by different team than GTA4, and this is done by different team than GTA4 and RDR.
  • FiReTiGeR2K #15 1 year ago

wow i know its not open world which bothers me a little caus sometimes you just wanna cruise and become part of the world im not like "where dee action!? i wanna shoot!!" its not about causing trouble and getting a wanted rating i just wanna drive around the city even if there are no side quests or jobs to doi imagine itll have a timer to get to other places or a guy yelling "your going the wrong way!" everytime you deviate and thats a shame. on the plus side the more i see about this game the better its getting for me caus i was afraid the actual detective work would be limited and mostly be a shooting driving game but to me it kinda reminds me of something like gabriel knight and i really enjoy the detective work elements ive seen. im hoping for at least if not a better experiance that condemmed 1 anyone else?
  • atrimus #16 1 year ago

    @jenguin

i was so immersed in the video that i didn't even notice the icons.

    thanks all the same.
  • cobaltfram #17 1 year ago

For such a high-profile game, you think you could create a more compelling main character.
  • mrblonde #18 1 year ago

Looks great this is true interactive story telling with actual gameplay, unlike the pretentious heavy rain which has nothing except silly button combinations/ QTE.
  • NewbieZilla #19 1 year ago

"For such a high-profile game, you think you could create a more compelling main character."

Compelling how? Appearance? Apparently he is the fella from Mad Men, so its trying to bring in a good name. Compelling in his speech? That is something that will be dictated by you. What was it you meant by compelling?
  • Darren #20 1 year ago

Looks like Mafia III if Rockstar had made it.

That isn't a criticism by the way. After Uncharted III, L.A. Noire is the game I'm most looking forward too and after the awesome Red Dead Redemption I'm positive that I will not be disappointed.
  • Nanocrystal #21 1 year ago

cobaltfram wants a scarred tough guy with a gravelly voice. Or a chick with a big rack.
  • Scimarad #22 1 year ago

    That looks absolutely incredible!
  • Rodchenko #23 1 year ago

mrblonde, I thought the same thing. This is the release I am most excited about this year and so far it tickles all the right buttons. Roll on May.
  • Syrette #24 1 year ago

    That looks astounding.
  • Syrette #25 1 year ago

    @cobaltfram

You've played through it already then? No? Perhaps you should wait till you've actually played the title.
  • makeamazing #26 1 year ago

    This looks amazing, cannot wait!
  • Tallon4 #27 1 year ago

Hotdamn....I can't wait to play this game!

Looks like a highly polished engine of RDR with is a good thing.
  • Orikk #28 1 year ago

This does look astounding and I'll be pre-ordering this without any doubt. Whilst the faces and facial animation are a leap forward they look almost too good, if that makes any sense. I agree with the comment about the Evian babies too. I think it's just because this is the first time that any company has ever managed to produce such good facial animation ingame as opposed to a cutscene.
  • king26 #29 1 year ago

Heavy Rain and now this, it's good to see this sort of innovation.
  • alexff #30 1 year ago

This looks fantastic. A hope this reviews well, sells well, and proves to the industry that there *is* a market for mature game experiences beyond FPS. There's an army of mature gamers with credit cards greased and ready to go...
This, Skyward Sword, Portal and Skyrim on the horizon. 2011 is shaping up nicely. Off for a 4th trailer viewing...
  • dwalker109 #31 1 year ago

    Just... wow. Wow.
  • Loneck #32 1 year ago

Looks really good. I dont like one thing, that the city looks in video not very populated for L.A. in comparison to GTAIV.
  • koopahell #33 1 year ago

@Loneck It's the 40s man, everyone died in the war and there was no one coming over here terking err jerrbbs!

    Yeah, this looks mental.
  • Loneck #34 1 year ago

to koopahell: On wiki they say, that it is post-war.
  • NewbieZilla #35 1 year ago

1947. Not back to normality by any means. Not that I'm using this as a reasoning for a low population, it just isn't a factor.

    @NewbieZilla:

The lead was cast before he made it big in Mad Men, that's how long it's been in development for!
  • Kanjin #38 1 year ago

Looks really good. Aside from the facial expressions and voice acting. I liked how light and sophisticated the visuals were; a nice change from the grittiness of GTA IV
  • Fido128 #39 1 year ago

Wonder if that's a Charles Bukowski reference at 1:21 ...

    Because if so, that's awesome.
  • NewbieZilla #40 1 year ago

    @BBIAJ

Yes, it has been in development for a long time. As for when the guy from Mad Men was cast? It was at a point when Mad Men was on the air, anyway.

Q: That's intense. So talk about Aaron Staton and the casting. How did you get involved with him? Rockstar started working with celebrities--Ray Liotta in "GTA: Vice City," for example--and then they moved away from that. What were the choices that were made about who to get for what particular roles?

A: Well, the idea was, we didn't think that we needed particularly anybody who was like a huge name. We just wanted quality actors. Obviously, Hollywood is a great place for that. So we used a casting agency called Schiff/Audino. And Laura Schiff, she cast the "Mad Men" TV series. And it was just kind of by a lucky accident. Like, I didn't even really know "Mad Men." It had been out here but I didn't know the series very well.

And [Rockstar exec] Dan Houser, who's in New York, he's a fan of the series and a fan of the writing. And he said, "There's this guy Aaron Staton on the show. I think he could really do it and he'd be great." And we didn't think we could get him at the start because he was doing the show. Laura approached him and, of course, he had to read through the material. It was just the outline because the game's got 2200 pages of script. But, he liked it and he came down to have dinner and a chat with us. And we just thought that we'd get on.

And once Aaron signed up to do it, loads of people from "Mad Men" kept ringing us up, saying, "Oh, I want to be in it. I want to be in it. Can I be in it?" Because they just heard that it was this kind of new type of video game and going to be done in an interesting way. So, we were really lucky there. We got Kartheiser and all sorts of people from "Mad Men" in the show.
  • Jolly_Armadillo #41 1 year ago

"Because they just heard that it was this kind of new type of video game and going to be done in an interesting way"

Does anyone else get that horrible feeling they took quantic dreams idea in heavy rain and plan to be the inventor of the genre as this will inevitably be hyped to the mainstream masses more than heavy rain ever could have been?

Or is this genuinely different to anything else? I am not entirely sure what this game consists of and I may be jumping to conclusions... :)
  • NewbieZilla #42 1 year ago

"Does anyone else get that horrible feeling they took quantic dreams idea in heavy rain and plan to be the inventor of the genre as this will inevitably be hyped to the mainstream masses more than heavy rain ever could have been?"

Heavy Rain was announced in 2006, right? Well, LA Noire work commenced in 2004, for the story. And was known about publically in 05, I believe. So, that is that point debunked.

Another thing worth pointing out is that both games owe their existence to film noir. Which in turn rely on the books they were adapted from. So, you are looking back to the 30s there.
  • Jolly_Armadillo #43 1 year ago

  • NewbieZilla #44 1 year ago

No prob. I can appreciate the point you were going for.

A big budget making something seen as the first to do something even if that is untrue. I know I've encountered it somewhere but for the life of me I can't think of them.
  • gjgjg #45 1 year ago

    Looks white hot.
  • Sodding_Gamer #46 1 year ago

    AMAZINGGGG. Can't wait for this.
  • Zebula77 #47 1 year ago

This has me super excited. The faces, animation and lip-sync is enough to make me think this is gonna be pretty spectacular. Plus, I love the 40s (or is it 30s?) setting.
  • DefendoCroc #48 1 year ago

So thats Duke, Brink and La Noire all in may =/ ..... does look fkin wicked though :)
  • geeza2020 #49 1 year ago

Oh My GOD. This game looks incredible. Penning the release date into my calender :)
  • Kmfrob #50 1 year ago

Isn't anybody a bit concerned by the action scenes shown in this trailer?

For me what has made this game's arrival so exciting is that it was being billed as a detective game in which careful problem solving was the order of the day. However, much of the actual gameplay footage in the trailer just looks like RDR and GTA with a smattering of detective work thrown in here and there.

The game would be infinitely more impactful if shootouts, car chases and melee fights were an extremely rare occurence (thus hightening tension and excitement) rather than a mission staple. If every other mission ends with chasing a bad guy down an alley way or ramming them off the road, then I fear this game will just end up as another Rockstar sandbox shooter rather than something truly unique and special (which we have thus far been led to believe).

GTA and RDR could get away with this action based gameplay because in many ways they were satirical takes on our violence obsessed societies/culture, but LA Noire seems to be a game taking itself more seriously than this. Therefore, working your way through a bank gunning down numerous faceless goons (all conviniently popping up from behind cover just at the exact height for a headshot) will only serve to dispel the rich atmosphere that teh city creates.

In the real world, police must account for every bullet fired and would certainly be severely reprimanded by their superiors if they were to gun down an entire gang of bank robbers (you are there to arrest, not exterminate). I'm not saying that LA Noire should go to this level of realism, but do you not think that making such shootouts sparse would lead on to a naturally richer game?

I know this is just a short trailer and may not be representative of the final product, but I am for the first time a little worried about how this game is going to turn out. I've had my fill of sandbox shooters for the time being and am desparate for something new and exciting to spark my interest, something which I genuinely hoped this game would be.
  • StolenGlory #51 1 year ago

I take back everything bad I ever said about this game.

    This will be 2011's RDR.
  • Dagdriver #52 1 year ago

Looks awesome - but I just can't see myself playing it!
  • Jolly_Armadillo #53 1 year ago

    @Kmfrob 2011-02-10 10:18:43

You don't have to wait for this game hoping it will be original. There are others already out there.

I understand what you mean though, cos it does look like it will mainly be similar to rockstarrs other shooters from the video just with a dash of something new. I also agree the less shooty shooty the better!
  • Shinetop #54 1 year ago

I have to agree with Kmfrob. This is the first time they've showed off gameplay and what they chose to show off was very action oriented shooter gameplay. I just couldn't get excited for it, the words "GTA4/RDR with clue minigames" just kept going through my head.

I don't know, I'm still going to wait and see. I don't get why everyone is so blown away by the same GTA4/RDR gameplay in a different setting, anyway.
  • zedzee #55 1 year ago

Looks great. Now can someone tell RockStar to use this engine on a BladeRunner game please?
  • Quint2020 #56 1 year ago

Holy shit, this hasn't been on my radar at all but it looks bloody fantastic!
  • Ikaros_O #57 1 year ago

    Amazing mo-cap, best i've seen
  • 5h1nj1 #58 1 year ago

    Wait, no pc version? Really?
  • Pumpatron #59 1 year ago

But will I be able to make the protagonist grow a beard? He looks like he needs a stubbly beard.

I wish I could grow a stubbly beard. Stupid patchy facial hair!
  • Dgzter #60 1 year ago

+10 points for the Bladerunner idea. Would be epic!
  • Yuroko #61 1 year ago

Fuck yeah! This looks incredible. This has shot straight to the top of my most wanted list.

2011 is going to be a golden year in gaming. This, Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 alone would be enough for me without all the other gems dotted throughout the year.
  • DarthMartious #62 1 year ago

A Rockstar game where you *don't* play as a criminal? Will wonders never cease.

(I just hope there's an option to become a corrupt copper ;) )
