Published 13 January, 2010 Duration 4:32

Well, this might divide opinion a little bit. The UK voice actors are revealed for Final Fantasy XIII, complete with what sounds a bit like Nolan North. And Leona.

The dialogue and narrative in FF games is painful.
  • Bigglesworth #2 2 years ago

Needed an instrumental version - its hard to hear some of the dialogue for Leona's warblings.
Other than that, not bad... kind of a melancholic, contemplative feel...
  • davex5647 #3 2 years ago

Oh dear. Well, I hope they keep the Japanese voice track in as an option...

When you're in a battle and you can't plug a bleeding wound will Leona Lewis sing a song for you?
  • GreyBeard #5 2 years ago

Seems like a decent dub, and the game itself looks gorgeous.
    Day 1 for me. :D
  • toy_brain #6 2 years ago

Not bad. Not the best, but not bad.
Would probably be better if they were able to massage the script into a less melodramatic ball of mush (but that might just be the trailer cutting random bits of stuff togeather into nonsense). VA's seem to do a better job when the script is better - or is that just stating the blatantly obvious?

music video. that's what this is. hard to hear them talking.
  • steellam #8 2 years ago

Christ, it can't be only me who thinks that music is fucking atrocious.
l love FF but if i had never played one before i would get the impression it was soft weepy bullshit from that trailer.
  • miiiguel #9 2 years ago

Not bad dub. Not at all.
  • redael #10 2 years ago

    they've managed to get the pronunciation of Vanille's name wrong ; ;
  • des #11 2 years ago

    Hmm,looks fantastic,will play.
  • andywilkie35 #12 2 years ago

What the fuck is that music singing over what they're trying to say? Every bit of information that gets revealed about this game is making me think my favourite franchise is heading for a car crash. I hope I'm wrong.
  • Pepeman #13 2 years ago

    Mmm..Naomi Hunter
  • Markusdragon #14 2 years ago

I think Squeenix need to learn how to make trailers.
  • Azgarth #15 2 years ago

I miss the mute old PSX FFs already.

Will it have the original voices at least?
  • Shrike #16 2 years ago

Uh oh. Looks like someone set the sentiment engine to 'hilariously maudlin'.
  • stevetuck #17 2 years ago

  • KreyAtiv #18 2 years ago

Really could have done without the music as it was louder than the speech from the video.
  • miiiguel #19 2 years ago

As it is a music video, I can't realy imagine it without the... music.
  • guernican #20 2 years ago

    Yup. Just not my bag.
  • Hantheman #21 2 years ago

it does look wonderful. It's actually a good trailer, I'll pick it up.
  • KillallHippies #22 2 years ago

north was mint as Vossler in XII to be fair
  • hiddenranbir #23 2 years ago

Hey, it's better than foreign speak that might as well not even be a real language. (Unless you understand it! :p)
  • Jocho #24 2 years ago

This trailer only raises two questions for me: Why is the trailer so much a montage of cut-scenes (the rest, I suppose, are summon-animations)? And why did the translation have to sound like an animated kids show? It reminds me a little too much of Digimon Animated Series with a billion dollar budget. =/
  • leandrovidotti #25 2 years ago

I love FF and I doesn't hate Leona Lewis (just kidding, I strongly hate her). This just don't match. Bad trailer, bad song selection. Why not call the Wong girl to do the english version? And the dialog, man, if I have dubbed all the characters it would be better....
  • hiddenranbir #26 2 years ago

"And why did the translation have to sound like an animated kids show? "

Because it is Final Fantasy? Does the original dub make it sound like Citizen Kane?

What. A.Shame. Final Fantasy used to be the be-all and end-all. Now Mass Effect, Oblivion, Fallout etc. make FF look as dated as it really is.... while modern games try to look like District 9 or Bourne, this looks like really bad manga crossed with Twilight. Great if you're 13, it's just a shame FF hasn't moved on with its audience. Seemingly. PS I have loved FF since FF7, regardless of format.
  • malmer #28 2 years ago

Ok, badly mixed with the music and stuff.

However. Yesterday I kinda thought this game was something I might skip. Now I'm way more excited than before. The voice acting was better than anticipated and the story seems to be pretty good. And the graphics look epic.

I will probably wait for some 360/ps3 comparison before I decide which version to get. I love the 360 controller and getting achievements is nice, don't care about trophies. But the PS3 probably has slightly less compression on the assets. It all comes down to how much compression the 360 version has, and if japanese is selectable in any of the versions and if the load-times on PS3 are long. Disc swaps don't bother me.

"... Would probably be better if they were able to massage the script into a less melodramatic ball of mush..."

But then it wouldn't really be a JRPG, would it? :p
Excessive melodrama and characters I couldn't even begin to empathize with, are the only reasons I've yet to play a JRPG I could stand for more than a few hours (I've made an attempt with around ten in total on the PS2 and 360, and I imagine I might end up giving FFXIII a shot as well - not that I suspect it will fare better than the rest).

  • actionfitz #30 2 years ago

No one does Emo quite like the Jrpgs hehe.
stil looking forward to it, even though I havent finished the last one due to a bricked ps2 :/
  • Earl_G #31 2 years ago

Fantastic looking CGI, okay-ish dub, but blimey, the actual in-game bits look so so dull by comparison! All that attempt to push drama and emotion and it all just boils down to stats and sums... blurgh

God am I a bit weird or are all the girls in this trailer absolutely stunning???!
  • creepylizard #33 2 years ago

That music isn't really in the game though, is it?
    Is it?!
  • Jocho #34 2 years ago

"Because it is Final Fantasy? Does the original dub make it sound like Citizen Kane?" Perhaps not, but the original dub is by Japanese, in Japanese, for Japanese. I can't speak for the whole Western World, but doesn't cultural artefacts in our part of the world contain less "I'm falling"-screaming? If they'd got budget to not only dub all characters, but lip-sync them accordingly, surely they could translate out those?

Or am I challenging some sacred tradition here without knowing it?
  • symmetry #35 2 years ago

    Meh, still just Final Fantasy.
  • rashes #36 2 years ago

It's like Home and Away, the RPG.
  • Vin #37 2 years ago

What the FUCK is Leona Lewis doing in a Final Fantasy game?
  • intpleeus #38 2 years ago

I have been disappointed in Final Fantasy ever since VIII, but I might give it one last chance after watching this trailer. Everything about it looks better than I expected, though that is largely due to my having such low expectations.
  • themorganator #39 2 years ago

    Woa, impressive!
  • knightmt #40 2 years ago

    GAY
    Still want.
At least it is not madonna.
  • PapaSmurf630 #41 2 years ago

Looks like shite. And I hate all their stupid hair.
  • degle #42 2 years ago

when i first heard that leona was on the latest FF game i was worried, now im appalled. Voice acting is the least of my worries
  • Phishfood #43 2 years ago

    Nice, they lip-synced it.
  • E_Goldstein #44 2 years ago

This trailer shows why there is such a dichotomy between Japan and the West. In Japan the high pitched balads and sterotypically clean voices mark purity and hope....

In the west it makes us cringe at the thought of playing this game in earshot of another human. Leona Lewis and american "jock" voices? (fetch me that man who punched her in the bookshop!)..please oh please let the Japanese track be left as an option.

Pour ceux qui ne sont pas au courant, ce jeu est l avant dernier de la série, le concepteur du jeu a décidé d arreter l aventure là, le dernier jeu qui sortira est FF 14 qui sera le tout dernier ...
