Fallout 3 - E3 trailer

8 (6 ratings)

The first trailer proper for Bethesda's post-apocalyptic RPG, in what looks like a CG intro sequence.

Shouldn't it be "where do you expect us to go when the bombs fall"?

Cool stuff, though I can hear the hardcore fans exploding with a force that no Vault could protect you from, with the sight of all that real time FPS action.

YAY for Dogmeat!

Probably elsewhere, waiting for a worthy sequel.

Well, shit. I really hope this will be a sequel worthy of it's heritage, but the FPS gameplay doesn't really seem to support Fallout atmosphere.

Plus, the gameplay itself really looks mediocre, compared to GoW for instance. Blood, gore, blood waagh!!! Meh. My hope just faltered a bit more.

Not a fan of the FPS approach, but we did know that was coming. I'm just hoping you can do the aimed-shot specialties often enough with a good enough stat... Because those DO look awesome.

Its not out and out FPS it has a combined RPG element as well.
The VAT system allows fight scenes to be paused and give the player a breakdown of the opponents strengths and weaknesses allowing the player to target their attacks

Well... nice intro... then the game erm... what the hell. Shareware springs to mind, seriously - I thought it looked somewhat ropey.

The FPS tones in this trailer are too strong for my taste but still, I give Bethesda the benefit of doubt...for now.

And: "trying to copy bioshock a little with the cartoon style intro." - best thing I've read in the internets in a long time.

edit: T4RG4 - shareware? What?

Okay, so I'm harsh with the shareware comment but I reckon it looks quite bad. I think there is little excuse for it unless you are a Fallout fan (not saying you are, I'm pointing at others in the thread).

The game part of the video totally turned me off.

Excuse me but... YAAAAWN.

Looks so much like so many other "over the shoulder" games that any WOW factor has long since disappeared.

I am trying to find where I book my space in the underground vault though... any ideas? Looks like it'll be a huge gang bang to me!!!!

It looks like it could be both good... or bad at the same time based on that trailer.
I'm quietly hopeful for another atmospheric and strongly directed FPS.

"Fable 2...notice the dog" ah, one more person who thinks Tolkien is so unoriginal because he uses such a generic fantasy setting. :p

Anyway, I prefer the TV stuff from the teaser, the clip in this one was far too clean. I liked the in-game vistas though. As for the gameplay, I wouldn't comment until people have actually tried it.

Huh. I thought it looks effin' great - and let's face it, it's not the Fallout game-engine they need to nail in order for us fan-boys to love it, it's the FEEL of the world... and it looks to me like they're dead-on.
Fallout was just an unofficial sequel to Wastelands - if the internets had been as densely populated, I'm sure people would have been whining about all the changes back then too.

Ah, Wastelands....

The dog's not from Fable. It's from "A boy and his dog", via Fallout1. It's a post-apocalyptic staple.

Good to see a vertibird in action at last!

I'm 50/50 on this. I'm firmly in the Fallout Fanboy camp, and i would loved to have seen it keep its isometric roots, but sometimes change is a good thing. Looking forward to more on this.

P.S - The Dog is actually a reference to Mad Max in Fallout. Anyone else actually think it was more fun to join the mutant army?
