Looks like classic Wipeout action, in HD...
Exactly what I wanted tbh, no point screwing around with an already spot on formula.

For me, Wipeout's about really mastering tracks, so only having a few tracks suits me just fine. Definitely better than the cynical white/black thing in Pulse.

Looks fucking lovely. I've never been a *huge* fan this series; I have Wip3out, but never really bothered with the others because I found it a bit too difficult. However, the prospect of 8-player online games is bloody enticing, and this has just been added to my list of wanted for when I finally get a PS3.

Isn't it going to be download & retail, like Warhawk?

one thing i hope they do (which i know thry won't) is have voice overs localised to the tracks... so if you're on a track that's meant to be in russia you get a russian announcer etc... the posh brit VO just kind of grates somehow (at least in pulse it does)

I also think this is a strong case for a new online Rollcage. C'mon Sony, no-one would argue with that!

And a new G-Police, while I'm at it.

I loved the original Wipeout back in '95 (can't remember if I've tried any of the later versions). I remember my girlfriend and I renting a PSOne plus Wipeout and Tekken on more than a few occasions.

Is this HD version supposed to be a regular boxed release or will it be a download from the PSN shop?
Maybe I just haven't been paying attention (possibly because I've only had a PS3 for a month :)), but I think this is actually the first I've heard of it.

THIS is how you write a system selling game.

60fps, 1080p, 5.1 sound, and exclusive to PSN.

Looks to me as if these were just HD versions of the Pulse tracks. I mean the exact Pulse tracks, all those corners look so familiar.

@ 4thVariety:

Yes, as soon as it was originally announced, they told us that there are no new tracks in Wipeout HD. They're a collection of tracks from Pure and Pulse.

Which is fine by me :)

Custom soundtracks please.

BTW release date is currently "Apr-Jun 2008" according to Sony.

If sony give me a way to plug my negcon pad in then I will go and buy a PS3.

Looks like it may go back to the glory of 2097, its been a bit off ever since.

@Gavilan - Hilariously, it's being released as a budget PSN title, though pricing's not confirmed, it's highly unlikely to be a full priced game. I just love destroying ignorance.
