WipEout is back in glorious High definition, or at least will be very soon. It's still got thumping techno, insanely fast top speeds, achingly cool Japanese iconography everywhere and that slightly annoying woman who announces the weapon power ups, except they're all even more lovely and crisp.

The hi-def trailer from the PSN store looks stunning.

Y'know - this might actually be enough to make me buy a PS3. Loved the original

If it's the graphics you're referring to, watch the HD trailer from the PSN store instead. A low resolution, heavily compressed Flash video doesn't really do this game (or any other game for that matter) justice.

This is a common criticism with Wipeout games, but playing on the fastest classes (traditionally) not only brings the speed up and reaction time down, it forces a different and more challenging racing line.

So many uninformed post's....This will be a massive success in europe/UK. Not sure about the US.

Please god will someone change that before it's released.

I'm talking about gameplay you moron.
It's looks far to clinical in it's implementation. Granted this is just a taster of whats to come. Put my hopes aren't high.

well he probably used the motion sensing control that is why he is unable to steer

Wipe out was always about the soundtrack and visuals. The gameplay was a simple affair and still is but if it isn't broke why fix it?
Fast racing, Power ups and weapons. Really what more can they do with a HD update?

That race track is bland and it is really missing The Designers Republic visual touches.

Also the starting announcer sounds like the janitor was brought in to do it while flicking through some uninteresting magasine.

I loved the original (it was the only wipeout I really enjoyed) and this looks like it will top it!

It looks rather nice though.

The most intriguing thing is that this isn't a full proper PS3 Wipeout, more of a nice PSN stop gap.
I checked the tracklisting out and it seems pretty ace too. A bit of AFX in there, some minimal stuff from Booka Shade etc.

Lovely to see proper boost pads - they were too weak and not important enough in recent versions.
Though it did look like the steering got worse as the lap went on. Please god tell me they haven't done the appalling "damage modelling" from Fusion. OFF! OFF!
