Actually, scrap that, we really need more people to be brave enough and try compete with GTA. Specially after so many failed attempts that ended up going nowhere (Trucrime, Getaway, Godfather ...). So, good luck to them!

Play GTA?

Besides, I'm assuming this is American, so they never really "got" the humour side anyway did they (hence the voice over that sounds like CliffyB got a bit too close to the script).

+1, but funny ad!

Very cheeky of them to rip on GTA IV, since you just know it's going to be a load of wannabe arse by comparison.

To sum up: I'm thinking one to rent.

Different takes on the same enjoyable genre.
Why limit the fun you have by refusing to play a game that feels the same as one you already enjoy?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
That kind of sums up SR for me. Yeah it's pretty much the same game as GTA but without the Rockstar humour a lot is missing.

I can't put my finger on it put GTA isn't calling me back for more.

GTA has a soul. This doesnt , and never will.

If I want to invest time hanging out with friends i'll do it in real life. When I play a game like GTA I would rather blow things up, steal cars, have shootouts in the streets and screw hookers for health. The taking people out could have just as easily been included but with no negative consequences.

Sain't Row is very good (the 1st one at least), but I admit I can't measure the "soulness" or whatever counts this day to bash a game one hasn't played.

I couldnt play something that looked so second-rate I'm afraid (frame rate looked pretty low too, not to say GTA's isnt at times).
Same font as GTA as well? C'mon thats too much
I like their intentions, to put more things that people actually want in the game (I am stunned you cannot BASE Jump in GTAIV!) but its technologically way behind its rival if that trailer is anything to go by.
7/10 max

p.s. believing a 10/10 is actual is like believing the white bearded man to the left of the screen is god haha

But the cars handled too much like real cars. And the camera was in a silly position. Not like the heady arcadey days of Vice City...
Apart from that, GTA4 is excellent. And Niko rocks.

And i dont like if. How can you take the piss out of the game thats gave you the engine to do your game. Nah GTA is 1 million times better than Saints row.
Not for me

On the other hand, on "who-gives-a-shit news", I'm at 94.25% in GTA4! (those pigeons took a while, but they're all dead now! 114 hours later...)

I say its a good trailer, and I will probably pick up saints row 2. I played the first one and I liked it.
There is plenty of room in the market besides GTA

I have to agree. I'd forgotten actually about some of the cool stuff that San Andreas had. The jetpack was fun, skydiving was ace, and the VTOL jet was sunlime. To be honest, the helicopter in SA was easier to fly too, and by easier, I mean more fun.
@mem
Dude, if everybody sued whenever someone released a game a bit like theirs we will all be buried in lawsuits. As some wise person once said "there is nothing new under the sun". Oh, and turn off your caps-lock key.

...c'mon man, Saints Row is aiming for something completely different. They're just having a laugh with this. To be honest, a lot of the time I was driving around in GTA IV and found myself comparing much of it to Saints Row.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
... and to be honest I really enjoyed Saints Row. I avoided it for ages and picked it up cheap in a bargain bin, and I couldn't put it down. Yes it had glitches, but it was bloody good fun.
GTA4 on the other hand.... I loved it for a while, but God it got dull fast. The story was excellent but once you got past the first half a dozen hours for me it became a real chore. I finished the story, in a couple of days and I've not put the disc in my machine since.
I'll take Crackdown over GTAIV any day.

its good that the various niches of sandbox games are being filled up, GTA has solid gameplay and rockstar writing, Crackdown has the the giant explosions and superhuman powers, mercenaries 2 has the large un-urban environments and military angle, Godfather on the wii had the amazing fist fighting and strangling controls and now saints row 2 has come along and filled in the madness hole left behind when GTA decided that driving your in game friends to an in game restaurant was more fun than jetpacks and fighter planes.
this won't make a dent in Rockstar's throne, but it should still be fun.

I reckon R* have taken out loads of the fun stuff from IV so they can reintroduce it all again in the sequels!
It'll be nice to see it happen.

You strike me as being a bit too brainy for this forum; why don't you go out and swallow a bottle of gin before posting again - intellect and rationale are anathema in a gaming forum.
No, really, I like you.
And I like GTA IV and Saints Row and Crackdown (immensely actually - for all the right reasons) and that abysmal True Crime: NYC and Driver: Parallel Lines (ok there I'm kidding - a little). The point is I like any open world sandbox game you throw at me - my library is a catalogue of the best and worst because I like the illusion of freedom. Saints Row doesn't have to outperform GTA in order to get my 60 bucks cause, shucks, they had me at hello (and the naked guy).
