Exclusive: EGTV PlayStation Home demo

Published 9 May, 2008 Duration 3:47

One of the things we were keenest to cast our beady peepers over at Sony's recent PlayStation day was Home, the all-encompassing multi-media-hub-lobby-excitement-doodah. So, being the unstoppable fact monsters that we are, we sat down with the creative director and had a nice chat.

The guy mentioned that you can do more races if you want to before you exit back to Home.

So the big feature was that you can invite people into your games, which you've been able to do on 360 since day 1. Instead of the big revolutions in online play, Home seems now to be more about Sony playing catch-up on Microsoft. Shame.

so what, they shouldn't bother making this functionality too? what a triumph of a comment.

So as he says sooooo many times, "we've been working quite close with the guys from Evolution Studio's....." Tell me whats it gonna be like setting up a game from Home when Sony dont work closely with the developers?

I fear the worst to be honest, sounds to me that there has been far too much put into Home working with selected games properly, with the majority of games taking a back seat. So for full features see Motorstorm, Resistence, Warhawk etc

Well it seems like the comments from Reeves about Home needing to be more game-centric are being realised. Good stuff. What Sony need to do is make sure ALL devs utilise Home, just as they have to utilise XBL.

  • Widge #8 4 years ago

No idea, but I'm sure both of them feature lower case at some point
  • Arwin #9 4 years ago

I would guess that you can only launch GTA IV multiplayer games from the GTA IV lobby?
  • juuken #10 4 years ago

I love how people underestimate Sony, I really do.
Home may be much more than you think it is and as for me, I look forward to it.

The trouble is Sony always overestimate just about every feature they implement .... The number of times I have felt let down by the hype and claims of sony with regards the PS3 beggars belief. Unfortunately my PS3 seems to have only one function at present.... dust catcher!

i really dont care if this doesn't revolutionalise gaming it looks good/interesting so thats all that matters to me. i respect sony they dont ask any one of its online users for money they maintain the psn merely on what they get from game downloads ie warhawk gt5 etc they dont ask for a monthly fee to give users the go ahead to play online, so considering all that they are doing exeptionaly well and to me the ps3 is future proof, unlike my 360 which died a few months after the crappy 1 year warrenty ran out. KEEP IT UP SONY!
  • wayne997 #14 4 years ago

get it righht it 3 year warrenty 360 ps3 just catching up with the june sis

I'll wait and see if this even works properly.

That proved very little. 2 people met up and started one race of a Sony owned game.

Way too much faff, menus and loading, and didn't compare to the simplicity and ease of joining others in their competitor's service.

I REALLY hope to be pleasantly surprised here, as I continue to see bollocks from this company where it comes to software, services and PR.

    Sexy Blu-Ray player though.

    I like.

different. they've just ripped of second life!

@juukers - Your right, I just may have understimated Sony... I guess I'll wait antoher few years for my PS3 to catch up with 360.
  • CHAOS_BROON #17 4 years ago

@wayne997 , i think i would know how long the warrenty lasted i was ripping my hair out, it may have changed now but my launch 360 was only a 1 YEAR guarrantee.. even so 360 is still a shoddy peice of kit, it may have some cool stuff on it but at the end of the day i dont trust it to last for years like it should. i have every reason to trust in the ps3 lasting, because they are built properly! (my ps2 is still going.)
  • symmetry #18 4 years ago

That actually looks like a really good idea.

Definitely one up on Live there.
  • britscott #19 4 years ago

    @chaos broon.

No ALL 360's have a 3 year warranty for rrod, just to repeat ALL
Guess what that includes my launch console (still going strong) and my sons newer model too.
As for your ps2 still going strong, I went through 3 of those feckers and all were laser related.
So may I suggest if you didn't throw away your 360 give ms a call and they will fix it for you. Of course if it was rrod related all other faults are under a 1 year warranty.

    @Egster
    "Looks nice and easy."

Yeah, I am kinda concerned about the fact that he mentions playing with the friends you meet up with in Home; I sincerely hope you don't have to track people down and meet up in order to play with them. That would quickly become tedious fiddling around.

i think the virtual psp should have a link up to a virtual ps3 so that the cross media bar is on a screen within a screen within a screen.
