Is it just me or does this look very cartoony?

    >Is it just me or does this look very cartoony?

    It is called Art Deco.
  • dadrester #4 5 years ago

meh... i think it looks shite personally. not to my taste, and although some of the tech looks mildly impressive i'm not at all impressed
  • jmctavish #5 5 years ago

It has some original design but the game itself looks cack. I'm not seeing from these trailers why everyone got so excited by this.
  • UncleLou #6 5 years ago

Not played System Shock, I take it?

Anyway, to each his own. One of the most interesting environments in any game in years, but I am not surprised that it doesn't appeal to everyone.
  • Duke_Red #7 5 years ago

Art Deco style Rocks! I might have the inerior of my house like it, when I get one...

    Bioshock is gunna be big.

Man I feel sorry for some of you. I can only hope that one day the joy will return to your lives.

Is it just me or does this look very cartoony?

You say that as if it's a bad thing. Why, does it need to look all metally and realistic like quake4 or WWII-shooter 7094?
  • Triggerhappytel #9 5 years ago

It looks gorgeous and will undoubtedly be one of the games of the year, but I'd rather some straight-up gameplay footage.

MS have scored a real coup getting this as a 360 exclusive.

If you do not find the Art Deco style to be your taste, you are welcome to take your pick of about 500 Macho Soldier Boy games. Myself, I'm planning a full-system upgrade just to do this puppy justice.

I want this to be even Scarier(tm) than the combination of Shock 2, all those haunted Thief levels, the first time a fiend jumped at me in Quake and the experience of watching someone play Overblood combined.

There, that's should be my expectations raised suitably high.

*Edit* - Actually i'm just imagining now that all those sounds like the creaking of the underwater structures under the pressure could be tremendously creepy. /imagines all kinds of scary things...

Damn, this had better be as good as the idea in my head is, or I'm gonna be pissed.

  • NewbieZilla #15 5 years ago

Is that footage representative of in game?
  • Ryuken #16 5 years ago

That seemed like in-game footage yes, definitely comparable to some of the in-game trailers they've already showed and not that CGI trailer that "tried" to make it look like it was in-game.

Nice scenery idd, though I'd love to see something else than the salad bar look. :) And afaik it's a PC-Xbox360 release. Hopefully they don't screw up the first version because they might want to go easy on the console-crowd.

I think it looks fantastic. I'll take the stylised look over photorealism any day of the week.
  • StixxUK #18 5 years ago

It looks as great as it did in the first trailer, but doesn't feel any closer :|

I don't like shooters and I don't care about enormous amounts of pixels. I fail to see what's next gen about this game (given it's PC origins my bet is nothing) and why EG is so excited about it. Am very curious to read the reviews (the text). Maybe then it'll become clear.
  • dirigiblebill #20 5 years ago

I think it looks like a kind of next-gen Abe's Odyssey. I'm interested to see whether the AI will match up to the hype.

I think the silence and lack of music will make it even scarier, SS2 did that as well in some places.

Apart from the fact that the pc has been driving the next gen for over two decades now, is responsible for more new genres than all consoles combined, has a release list of AAA titles that outstretches the combined console list every year and considers all things the ps3 and 360 boast about ancient history. Oh and this is the spiritual sequel to some of the best games ever made. Most people will be disappointed if this turns out to just be a AAA 9+ game.

    Words fail me.
  • Azazel #23 5 years ago

Yeah lol... Like what do people think we're excited for? I mean is it like zomg teh new Halo!!1wtfbbq lol System Shock 2 is more fucking 'next gen' than pretty much every first person game that came after it.

*edit* efh... drunken self-righteousness overcame me there. I guess what I'm trying to say is: It is billed as a spiritual successor to Shock 2. That is an exciting thing. The End. Mmmm doritos.

and at a stroke, Les rendered his comments meaningless.

"I want this to be even Scarier(tm) than the combination of Shock 2, all those haunted Thief levels, the first time a fiend jumped at me in Quake and the experience of watching someone play Overblood combined. "

You are in luck. The guy who made "The Cradle" in Thief 3 was contracted in for a section in Bioshock.
  • OliverH #26 5 years ago

Folks, don't take the comments of a bunch of kids who were still in the baby carriage when System Shock I came out too seriously. They don't know what it meant to crouch, lean, climb, nor aim at things not in the center of the screen, nor throwing grenades etc. accurately, nor tiring when you exert yourself too much at a time when other "shooter" games mean walking around gathering keycards and pushing the fire key whenever something mobile is in the center of the screen.

If this is indeed the spiritual successor to System Shock, it will redefine once more what a "shooter" is and what you can do in one. It's a testimony of a lack of inventiveness of other designers that so few of them tried at least to repeat what System Shock did. Most of them are so obsessed with realistic re-action of the environment, that they don't waste a thought on realistic action of the player-character.
  • Bezzy #27 5 years ago

    >>Is it just me or does this look very cartoony?

    >It is called Art Deco.

Art Deco is the style of the architecture, furnashings etc. It doesn't account for the "cartoony" representation - that's more like a layer of stylization ontop of the world. I think it's a perfectly justified choice considering that most games that try to look photo-real never, ever succeed, unless they're recorded on camera.
  • Azazel #28 5 years ago

You are in luck. The guy who made "The Cradle" in Thief 3 was contracted in for a section in Bioshock.

That guy again?? Whoever he is, he is an evil genius and he must be stopped.

Seriously though: That's great - if disturbing - news.
  • Bezzy #29 5 years ago

    All hail Jordan Thomas!

"I don't care about enormous amounts of pixels. I fail to see what's next gen about this game (given it's PC origins my bet is nothing)"

You say you're not interested in pixel counting, and then in the same breath you imply that being 'next gen' is all about the hardware??

This game isn't about the tech, or the graphics. It's being brought to you by the people behind some of the most innovative, engrossing, absorbing games ever made. It could look like a sodding spectrum game and it would still be exciting.
  • macksed #31 5 years ago

makes me tempted to for 360 over ps3 - hmmm
  • Realtime #32 5 years ago

For me it reminds me of the Shopping Mall in Condemned, it had it's scary look too.

Anyway, it's a sale for me when it's out
  • Xerx3s #33 5 years ago

Wanna bet that EG will be at least 2 points below meta critic? It has guns and lacks feminine boys you see... ;)
  • JediMasterMalik #34 5 years ago

I really hope this is near Deus Ex levels of good, it certainly looks like it should be.
  • bloodflowers #35 5 years ago

I love the art style and the environment design enough that I'd buy this if it was nothing more than a roaming camera simulation. Makes the GoW world look incredibly bland.
  • daedalus2 #36 5 years ago

    >Wanna bet that EG will be at least 2 points below meta critic? It has guns and >lacks feminine boys you see... ;)

Are you kidding me? If this game is any good at all, Eurogamer will have the biggest hard on for it *ever*. Particularly if they let Gillen review it.
  • DDevil #37 5 years ago

Yeah, but they're bound to do a 360 review over a PC one, and KG only does PC reviews.

Now that's a MUCH better trailer! I love that one!

Did they do this trailer 'cos I bitched so much about the last ones? :-D
  • itamae #39 5 years ago

Love the design! Good to see that there are still some developers out there who pay more attention to style than polygon count. I'm just afraid that this might play like System Shock 2, which I thought was pretty boring and annoying. I'm aware that I'm alone with this opinion though, so I won't disturb this love-in any longer.
  • UltimateGold #40 5 years ago

Yawn, that was so boring...I hope it's not representitive of actual gameplay.

    Bioshock..The real sleep simulator
  • Caimbeul #41 5 years ago

"MS have scored a real coup getting this as a 360 exclusive" ...Dont think so...this is on PC too!

I hope it isnt too scary. System Shock 2 was great but Im getting old and I find I cant play scary games for long sessions as i get too tense

    /grabs walking stick.
  • allyjweir #42 5 years ago

    looks sooooooo pretty
