Exclusive - Riddick: Dark Athena - Stealth gameplay

Published 3 February, 2009 Duration 2:57

Good old Vin, he really is the action hero for all seasons. For gigs like the Wheelman he's buff enough to crash trucks into his jaw, whilst he's also lithe and stealthy enough to sneak around the corridors of Dark Athena - knifing cyborgs in the throat and freeing small girls from captivity.

Looks incredibly polished. Gameplay, presentation, voice work, sound...everything looks perfect. Truely impressive.

Christ, I hate being such a partypooper. I have Butcher's Bay and loved the experience and will no doubt get this because I'm a fan of the Pitch Black canon but really guys, this specific video is pants.

OK, it's drones but have you seen how damn thick they are ? Was this played on super-easy or what ? The drones were walking straight into walls, happily not reacting when you mince one of their mates standing 6 ft away and their field of vision seems to be a 6 inch tunnel along their laser beam coming out of their faces. :-(

I know there is footage of other parts of the game that are brilliant so I'll just leave this one as coming from a strangely weaker part of the game (immediate start ?).

Oh well. We'll talk again when the game's out.

Looks nice graphically, but pretty simple gameplay. Like Sam Fisher for kids. Crouch, sneak up, button-mash to stab and slice the same way you stabbed and sliced the last dozen identical borg clones, maybe use one's gun to shoot another, then rinse and repeat. There's got to be more to it than this.

The drone at 2.10 gets it tight (brutal & brilliant) When is this being released?

Do those drones have selective vision or something 'cause at one stage he was standing right in front of them and he was totally invisible. Then when he was out of view behind that crate, he suddenly gets the entire patrol force on his back. What gives?
Also, from 2:14 to 2:17, brutal... This looks sweet apart from this AI problem.

Capt.VonHell, You use the darkness & shadows for stealth play (kinda like Splinter cell) if you are in complete darkness the drones wont see you & when the screen is lighter with the blueish haze its cos riddick has lifted up his goggles & is using his eye shine to see in the dark.

The drones are supossed to be a bit stupid (the appear as the first enemies). When they are controlled by a human they have white lights on their helmets and they act smarter.

Tha AI in Escape From Butcher Bay was good, Starbreeze knows how to do things right
