Of course it feels more real if you get to play using that setup. Go play with a controller and come tell me how realistic that is.

I hope this is the case. Codemasters have definitely got the talent to make it happen but I suspect they'll probably stop short of the highest level of realism possible. That's simply going to be too frustrating for 99% of people. Sure the game will still be an excellent semi-simulator though on the hardest settings.

Bikmate: who drives a real car with a controller? If you're using a controller then you're probably best off just judging how much fun the game is: realism's not going to come into it.

Last week one of the programmers rated it 5 or 6/10 in terms of how much of a simulation the game is.

Really looking forward to the game, but that video was just just the typical Codemasters marketing BS, a la F12010.

That's whats good about these games though, they strike a good balance between realism and arcade which actually makes the game fun to play, i think games like Forza and GT5 take things too far personally, i don't find them fun at all.

More empty promises and PR BS from Codemasters. I hope I'm wrong (old CMR rally fan) but DIRT 1+2, GRID and F1 have been huge disappointments for me.

Dirts great, i also much prefer it than the sterile forza/gt5. I feel its those game where a wheel is essential, dirt works just as good with a pad.

I believe punctures and blowouts were an advetised feature in the previous game, they didn't happen though. Undecided on this one if I'm honest, I'd like to give it a go but Dirt 2 was a little grindy and didn't have enough tracks, they say this one has more on offer but we'll see when the reviews come out.

Also, I used to work with that Tim Dearing guy in QA way back, good dude. I just hope his handling coding is better than his bug reports :p (a little joke for if he or someone else at Codies reads this)

Wow they're really impressed by their game. Must be really good.

If Dirt really makes the jump from arcade to sim, I will happily pay full price. But somehow I still have doubts that will happen. Would piss off the majority of their huge audience, I guess.

I have no speakers at work and cannot hear what they are saying. Eurogamer - please fix this.
  • UkHardcore23 #12 1 year ago

Seems strange they are saying it's realistic when the devs themselves gave it a 5/6 for realism! LOL!

I enjoyed Dirt a lot, but the handling wasn't great. Dirt had had much improved handling but was a bit lacking in terms of true rally and rallycross. I really think all I have heard about Dirt 3 has been good, including people playing at their recent open day. For me, this is my most wanted game of 2011.

@UkHardcore23 - That rating of 5 or so was with the driving assists such as ABS etc turned on, he later said that with those assists all turned off he'd rate it as an 8.
