    Eve is Uber. And all that talk about steep learning curve is meh, just download the free trial and give it a good go, just like you would pump a good 20 hours in a new tile in the first 3 or 4 days after purchase...
    Hooked. Guaranteed.

    If people are thinking about trying the six day trial, now they've see that video, they should join a corp that specialise in helping new players, like agony unleashed or eve university. You're lost without other people to help you.

    Or you could watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Bkzv-3vJn4w

    @.01

    It's not the learning curve that's steep, it's the skill training.

    It's not a system that works well if you're in the habit of taking breaks from games...

    @scoop
    I see. When I have a break i aim for a 9-day skillbook. But true, Eve-players should not go tracking through Peru for two months... On the other hand, there are more skills/skillbooks going than one can ever train, even the 'oldest' Eve-players cannot make that target. Never.
    And taking brakes from games...what kinda habit is that! ;)

    Eve is actually quite rewarding in regards to skill training. You just pick and choose and while you go have fun shooting stuff. In Eve, goals and aims are what you make of them and skills are nothing more than a means to an end.

    Be it wanting to fly a certain ship or infiltrating some poor corp and robbing them blind :D It sucks you in though, especially if you're in a corp/alliance that has goals and good leadership. Spent two years doing everything from high sec mission running to low sec, to even getting a bit of space in 0.0.

    Wish I had the time to return, only game I check on every now and then. And the trailers are always fun to watch. Good times.

    I hope this comes to consoles one day, sounds like a lot of fun. :)

    id get back into it but swtor is this week, so unfortunately il be letting my sub lapse for a little until the novelty wore off.

    Still despite that, EVE is in a class of its own, there is nothing out there like it.

    I'll just leave this link here - video walkthrough by an EVE University Professor -from creating your character to going through the early missions: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB9A647F3121DFC21

    Also, as ResidentKnievel mentioned, look up 'EVE University' in-game (or Google for us) - we'll get you started, with classes, mentors and pretty much everything you need to get involved.

    Oh, and passive tank that Machariel!

    @00.00.01 Heh re. taking breaks :) Yeah, I was a day-1 player and kept my account going, popping in to train and my god it was still addictive just doing that, but the deeper you go the harder it is to keep up - I'm at the point where I can't even stock up on books because they cost hundreds of millions, and it's months instead of days to train.

    Wish I had the time, really do. After UO, Eve is my favourite MMO... it's just so demanding (for game that's not especially demanding!).

    Best MMO out there for mature players with a brain.

    Not my cup of tea - too clinical. Like a cup of tea served in a stainless steel bedpan. Best wishes to those of you who find it appealing though!
  • Nephirion #13 5 months ago

    The lack of proper directional control has always put me off this game, feels like it almost plays itself.
  • PuppyFiddler #14 5 months ago

    It's fitting Eve is based in space because it's a massive time vacuum that sucks you in but nothing much comes out of it unless you spend ages searching.

    You'll probably get your moneys worth before you get so stressed you'll run like a scalded cat though to be fair. It's worth checking out as it can be great upgrading ships and planning ahead(something the piss-poor walkthrough failed to elaborate on).

    Getting gang-raped by campers sitting at the gates can and does set you so far back that you sometimes need weeks to recover depending on how much you play the game. Demons Souls got nothing on this game. That's like a midget vs a mammoth.
  • DodgyPast #15 5 months ago

    @Nephirion

    You double click in space for directional control. Not particularly important for NPC stuff but when you're PvP'ing it becomes very important and the best players fly manually.

    Passive tank the Machariel? How would you fit all the damage mods and tracking enhancers to pop frigs at 70km? :)
  • jungle_ninja Verified Code Monkey Dude, Eurogamer Network #17 5 months ago

    @telboy007 by having awesome skillz :)
  • telboy007 #18 5 months ago
