    Being a gamer who gets all the references I really wanted to like this film. However, after what feels like hundreds of movies of the exact same role, I finally OD'ed on Michael Cera's whiny voice, and hated the movie for it.

    I'm really fed up of hearing about this movie all the time.
  • irrelevanthuman #3 1 year ago

    I really like the movie but this giant advert masquerading as an interview leaves a sour taste.
  • space_ace #4 1 year ago

    the film is indeed annoyingly overhyped, but still awesome
  • cowell #5 1 year ago

    @irrelevanthuman

    Oh wait... So these people don't do press junkets just for the fun of it and they are in fact just trying to promote their products? I'm shocked! ;)
  • irrelevanthuman #6 1 year ago

    @cowell
    That is a given, but I object to the practice when the interview is in thrall to the plugging.
  • PlugMonkey #7 1 year ago

    @spekkeh

    I didn't hate it, but I found myself strangely un-moved by it, considering I'm a games geek and massive Edgar Wright fan.

    @ cowell

    See the interviews with Terry's Gilliam and Jones on EG and Rock, Paper, Shotgun. It's not always about promoting the product. ;)

    Literally my favourite film

    EDIT: Incidentally I don't think I've ever watched any other films involving Michael Cera, which might explain why I enjoyed it more!

    Dear Edgar,

    Please stop helping Joe get film work, as I want him back on 6music.

    Thanks!

    Shame Scott Pilgrim didn't do better at theatres, ground breaking in many ways.

    Can EG interview Mary Winstead about games next?

    I wanted to like this movie, but... it's rubish. It tries to hard oto be funny, and it's embarrassing it only succedes a couple of times. It uses pop culture references too bluntly. Needed more subtlety. Too infantile, or maybe too american.

    I saw the film last week. thought it was the Bob-Omb!
  • smifwick #14 1 year ago

    "Too infantile, or maybe too american."

    Even though it's Canadian? ;)

    I personally loved the film. I loved the refences to Canadian culture and the little digs it gives to Holywood. Maybe I got those jokes as I'm currently based in Toronto so when I saw the movie star ex fly through the cardboard New York skyline and you see the CN tower where the Empire state once was, I got it!

    Yes, that's a shame innit ? Globalization means, Americanization. "We" do copy their culture and and maneirisms.

    +1 to EG for a good interview.

    -1 to Amazon (.co.uk, not .ca :p ) for not getting my blu ray to me yet.

    @spekkeh - That's why I'm glad the only other thing I've ever seen Michael Cera in is AD :)
  • Markitron #17 1 year ago

    I also really wanted to like it but the quick edits and lightning fast dialogue gave me a headache.
  • LazyNinjaUk #18 1 year ago

    Maybe its just accidental, but why when Edgar mentions that Brandon Routh plays WoW, does it cut to a shot of Kieren Culkin? :S

    I liked Scott Pilgrim as it seemed so different to all other films that were out at the time, I'm not a huge Michael Cera fan but I think he did a decent job. I think liked the film for its artistic approach and use of effects more than anything.

    Easily 2010's best movie.

    'I saw the film last week. thought it was the Bob-Omb!'

    It certainly Bob-Ombed at the box office. I wasn't overly impressed either. Trying too hard, style over substance and all that.

    Comic was better, but still loved it, they couldn't have done a better job converting it to a live-action movie,

    Awesome movie. The first time I watched it I was rather unimpressed... but it grew on me after several viewings. Now it just seems unmissable.

    Worst part being it wasn't shown on ANY theater in the Canary Islands. None at all. By the time the film was premiered in Spanish it had already failed in so many places that no cinema took the risk. Anyway I'm glad they didn't, it saved me from suffering from the half-arsed dubbing that killed the movie.

    I watched it last week, didn't expect much as i had just seen some rubbish adverts for it, and tbh, i thought iwas excellent, one of the best films of the year. The previous week i had watch the Millenium trilogy and they were very good too, so i'm not some spotty kid.

    If you don't go in expecting it to be 'AWESOME' and overhyped, then the fight scenes are great, and the use of special effects are some of the most unique i have ever seen. Personally, i think it's a must for gamer geeks, and my friends who i have convinced to watch it (With the usual 'but the trailers look rubbish' comments) have all also said it is great.

    Surprise film of 2010 for me.

    The comic's a piece of shit, so I was pleasantly surprised by the film. Not amazing, but a bit of fun.

    Edgar Wright looks like Robert Purchese.
