    That looks beeautiful!

Looks great, but how many million polygons just get blasted past in about a second? I pity the poor artist that spent hours crafting that tree that was on screen about a microsecond!

This is what i;ve wanted for AGES

It looks ok, but i don't like how it plays. Sonic feels a little uncontrollable. I'm hoping they have starlight zone in it from sonic 1, I love that level

1:40.71. Doesn't sound too difficult to beat that.
  • Pastici #9 11 months ago

It feels a bit too zoomed in and fast, I had a hard time seeing stuff on screen.

Makes me feel better that I hit the same ladybird.

Looks nice and very Sonic but it's amusing to note that while Mario made the transition from 2D to full 3D perfectly fine, Sonic hasn't and with each new game (and the critical pounding they get) seems to be reverting back to his 2D roots. Makes me wonder if its the concept that's at fault (the sheer speed he moves at) or is it that the developers lack talent? Maybe it's both. Either way, it's odd to see a new Sonic game on modern consoles that are 2D using a 3D engine in 2011. Purists will love it I guess but isn't this just 1994 all over again, only prettier?

Finally Sega gets it! Looks awesome!

Makes me wonder too, but nowdays I think it's not Sega's fault maybe it's this nostalgia video-gamers always have and perhaps not everything makes sense nowdays. Sonic had its time, it was great.

1:22.07 is my best so far and that was with a couple of mistakes.

I did have a bit of a chuckle when I found a different route that took 36 seconds off one of the checkpoint times.

What's terrible is how people have been saying they should do this roughly since Sonic Adventure came out - a 2d Sonic game with lush, 3d graphics. This looks like what Sonic 4 should have looked like.

This also applies to lots of other old franchises, such as Castlevania... I'm all for (good) reboots, but keeping classic gameplay, dressed up in fancy graphics, and releasing as downloads for reasonable prices seems like a sure fire winner to me.

SEEMS (cant tell for sure just watching vid - but watching the problem the player was having on the swing) to have the same shitty problem that colours had.

    - In that you have to finish your walk/run cycle before you can jump, which makes timing jumps stupidly hard and unatural (As you dont jump the minute you press the jump button).

I thought we left that sort of gameplay behind with the original tomb raider.

    shite.
  • bikmate #16 11 months ago

It's shite if you ask me. Sonic Fan Remix is way better, in every way possible.

Like it, downloading the demo, looking forward to playing it.

But is it just me or is Sonic shrunk by half?
  • KimboDice #18 11 months ago

I think the demo's to short! They could of gave us a 3d level. And to be honest I don't like how Sonic takes 3 seconds to get up after getting hit and stopping dead at one point before a loop.

As a 90s gamer fully in the Nintendo camp, I have to say I loved the demo. I never really 'got' the original Sonic games, but after my first run through, this one just clicked. It's all about finding the best routes and setting yourself up properly for those super high-speed moments, which I have to say are absolutely exhilarating in this game. The music's brilliant too - perfect mix of modern and retro. It really, really would benefit from a higher (i.e 60fps) framerate though, and sometimes Sonic's not as responsive to jumping as you'd expect, and sometimes the gorgeous scenery is too distracting or not distinctive from the level enough, but none of these things ruin the fun in the demo. And it is absolutely gorgeous.

If the 3D levels and Modern Sonic don't ruin it, and if they work on the niggles, this could be the first AAA Sonic game in a long long time.

Played demo on ps3 and it looks like update is 30fps, not enough for this type of fast pace game. On the other hand visuals are very nice.

Played it on PS3, but it's way too fast to get a grip on what's happening on screen... like unplayable fast.
Or maybe I'm getting too old for this sh...
  • Alkeno #22 11 months ago

¿UPDATES AT 30fps? What a fail, I thought the video was choppy due to Mac playback (Flash performance is crap) and video downgrading to 30fps. If the game is running at 30fps that is very bad news :-S

Regarding Sonic moving back to 2D whereas Mario lives happily in 3D, I think it's the same story as Street Fighter and Tekken. They both share genre, but both are so different in design that they just happen to work better in different environments. And there is no way you can say Street Fighter IV failed because we are in 2011 and it's still designed in 2D, the same goes to the hedgehog.
  • albinas #23 11 months ago

@Alkeno this video is broken, do not judge from it, but on console you still can see that fps are too low for this type of game.
  • gooner77 #24 11 months ago

Looks gorgeous. May add it to my preorder list
  • MrBelmont #25 11 months ago

Seems like you constantly need to duck-n-blast to gain any momentum.
  • jamesi #26 11 months ago

ive played the demo and was quite impressed with it. feels new.i loved original sonic havent played new ones but this is back to what the game is meant to be about speed and fun.nice graphical overhaul aswell
  • Badassbab #27 11 months ago

Really good but needs to be 60fps like the originals
  • dahsif #28 11 months ago

Welcome back, Sonic. You have been sorely missed.
