Is it wrong of me to say "Shut the fuck up and fix the strategy AI?"

    Probably.

Fencing moves look more like show than like fighting

Can't wait. Hopefully the new engine will have AI reworked from the bottom up so the funny things won't happen as often. Either way, CA has always gone above and beyond expectations in its strategy titles at least.

Shrimp - Is it wrong of me to say "Shut the fuck up and fix the strategy AI?"

Well, yes, considering they've admitted the flaws in the campaign AI of the previous games and have said they'll fix it.

*Is it wrong of me to say "Shut the fuck up and fix the strategy AI?"

Yes. Because when the game comes out you'd be saying, yeah the AI is great, but why does it animate like shit?

Maybe I'm dumb, but I never had problems with the AI in Total War games. I haven't played Medieval 2, though. Still, Rome: Total War was one of the best games ever, so the amount of negativism in this thread is surprising to me.

Shogun you fools, redo it! why all these other games?
rome was great iadmit but shogun can't be bettered with it's setting.

Am I mad or did they misspell "Strategy" in the title graphics? Around 0:12 or so. A tad embarrassing, methinks.
  • Shrimp #12 4 years ago

Sorry, I'm just bitter. I remember back in Shogun and Medieval 1 (and then maybe also Rome) battles that really felt like they meant something - setting up ambushes, brave last stands, etc. That just seems to have faded away more and more with each iteration. And that's not even mentioning the strategy map AI, although that was always a bit flaky.

I suspect the involvement of focus groups.

    Looks good, me want
  • SentientNr6 #14 4 years ago

I loved the total war series. Loved Rome the most. Hated shogun for it's geisha's or maybe my generals temptation to geisha's. Medieval 2 was a bit of a letdown but still better than other strategy games. I am not too fond of the setting of this TW but will try and see what they make of it.

I don't understand why they hire "professional stuntmen", who to me as a fencer who does both modern sports fencing and historical combat, looked very rigid and ungraceful in their movements. There are hundreds of professional historical combat coaches within 200km of their headquarters who could have done this with more flair and panache than a Hollywood swashbuckling movie and would have been a lot more knowledgeable about aspects of historical accuracy than the Sharpe tv-movies which were apparently the extent of their "research"!

manveruppd is right, and for that I will smile. I am still looking forward to the game, though.

I'm sorry but the AI and unit cohesion in both RTW and MTW II was so appallingly bad I smashed my space bar out in frustration. May I have issues? Possibly. Shogun is by far the best in the series. I don't care about zooming in, thats so boring after 2 minutes, I don't care about ultra fancy graphics, this is a frickin' strategy game. Empire better live up and they better have sorted out all the game breaking issues. I'll buy it anyway just to slaughter the Yanks, for God knows whatever reason, they decided to add.
