looking foward to seeing how this works out - loved FIFA since 08 but keen to get back to some really serious footy

Hoping that this is the year PES pulls it's socks up. I'm starting to get a bit bored of fifa now, with it's bugs and predictable gameplay.

God the animations are still laughably bad. Some of the new ones look ok in isolation, but it's like there's a massive spazzy glitch whenever it transitions from one to another.
  • brseg #4 2 years ago

    Dare I say, looks promising!
@Zomoniac - some of the animations look good, but others have quite stiff upper bodies, and yeah the transitions arent as good as they could be (yet). But, it looked pretty good to me. I like the focus on matching the real broadcast 'feel' to the graphics.

animations got me puzzled.....they seem still very disjointed with noticable changes in cycles, however this seems to be exaggerated by using a camera shot that is heavily locked to he balls movement.

to me fifa's manual control level was the killer in latest editions...it was more adaptable to your certain style of play and made pes seem massively rigid. hoping to return to pes again though :)

Yeah, love the animations in general but the ball seems to stick to players' feet.
  • varsas #7 2 years ago

I have a lot of hope for this one! The annoyances in the presently better Fifa games are starting to get to me.
  • dsmx #8 2 years ago

The ball sticks to players feet if the player is good at dribbling, if there crap at dribbling then it doesn't.

their mouths move so much better than FIFA's yawning gobs.

Their sound boot needs a big update. Always wondered whythe sound of the ball being kicked never seemed right..USE YOUR FOOT!

I hope people have the patience to learn a new PES game again, can imagine plenty of people saying "downloaded demo, played one game, deleted", from what I read it is gonna be one to truly master but then that was always the beauty of PES games, nothing compares to that feeling of scoring special goals on PES, you feel like you have genuinely had to work for them and celebrate them them like your real life team has just scored, other football games although seemingly excellent at first lack that soul.

The animations have definitely improved - you can still tell there's poor transitions in some places but the game must only be about what - 70% complete or so? Plenty of time to make them more realistic. I just hope this is the year PES can finally challenge FIFA again.

Great to see the Western press visiting a Japanese developer, but this video doesn't really tell us any more than Konami have already let us know in other press releases or teaser videos. Two things I would like to know - have they fixed the 'blind' refs, and will they give back control of the transfer negotiations to the player in the Master League?

Seriously, when are Konami going to stop avoiding the elephant in the room. ONLINE FEATURES!
Gameplay has never really been a problem with PES. Yes, they tweak it every year and add or remove features, but it's the social element of the game that has been sorely lagging behind FIFA for the past 2 years.
The new gameplay stuff looks great, but if they add the important online friend modes with a smooth matchmaking process, then the PES gameplay will still pull it past FIFA, but until they do that I'll be sceptical. I just want to create my own league with friends and have the games playable whenever we want to see who gets bragging rights. That's all. It's so simple but they are just never talk about this stuff.

my memories of this game on ps2 were of fluid motion, detailed animation and that every goal scored was well earned.

the close-up shots of the skills has been around for a while now. some of the actual match footage shown looked promising, certainly the shots going displayed the level of freedom seen in fifa.

    @barleyesq

Eh...PS3 PES2010 has an online community mode where you and friends can set up your own persistent PES community with stat tracking, leagues and cups that you can play at your own pace and even the ability to join up with friends in online Be A Legend mode. It's maybe not the perfect the footy game but you can't have a go at it for lack of those features when they are right there!

    It's the same engine again.
    Flogging a dead horse Konami.

I loved PES, but it broke once it got to the current generation consoles. Bought it each year hoping their promises were justified and each year they've been lies.

Wish I could get into FIFA but that series doesn't play as good a game of football as PS2 PES either.

Please prove me wrong Konami with this year's effort, but I won't be buying it release day like many years in the past; been let down too many times.

The general passing footage actually looked pretty slick to me.

That said, I've heard all that PR waffle before, so I'll be waiting for the reviews/demos.

Gotta agree though, as good as FIFA is nowadays, I yearn for the unpredictability and pure essence of the old PES games.

O h Looks like another year we have to keep the Crt tv in the spare room to play it on the Ps2

Pes 6 was fine on the 360 I dont give a fuck about the graffics iand put the skill moves back on the r2

Like many people here. I've been back to FIFA since 08 but I'm missing the feeling I've had playing PES 3. Scoring a goal in PES 3 was always incredible.

But how am I supposed to be convinced by this behind the scenes look? They've been promising change and improvement for years but have failed to deliver again and again. The FIFA development office looks far more impressive than this one and I remember they had more interesting things to show as well. Some guy in a grey cubicle showing some very basic AI principle, a guy in a shed hitting a ball with his hand and another one putting a sound-file in the game... I hate to be cynical, but why don't they show us how they will finally create a game that feels somewhat fluid?
