Compelling, eh? It's the magic word. I'm convinced.

    Compelling? gtfo

hmm Neil kinda skirted around anything new incoming didn't he? Also you could have pressed a bit further with the ESPN issue. The ESPN "app" is free sky is not. I'm not saying the sky app should be free but as the years go on Pound for pound the services a live sub provides seems to dwindle away.

How does he explain the fact that noone gives a flying fuck about 'kinect' and everyone is talking about the 3DS???

And dare I say it, Sony were right, people want actual 'buttons' unless you think we're going to pay over £100 to play fucking dance games.

I actually thought he came across as okay. He has to flaunt the party line, so to speak, but he didnt come across as pretentious or just pick on the competition.
  • rotsujin #6 2 years ago

It's like he was interviewing a press release.

    250 gig memory! LMFAO

He talks the same shXt my dad does!

I wish Minkley would at least have asked why the Microsoft game demos were playing themselves with a few poor schmucks trying to mimic the moves on the screen? Minkley is way too nice for these interviews!

Major yawn. Sorry Johnny, more him than you. What a boring suit, jesus, he's a walking cure for insomnia.
  • rarehobo #11 2 years ago

Yes all those "hardcore games" for kinect are truely compelling, a bath of acid looks more appealling.
  • Widge #12 2 years ago

I agree with thesnowman actually. I ranted in the other thread but now I think "what the fuck else is this guy meant to say?". Next week Sony are going to come out and say something about MS/Nintendo, Nintendo are going to ... well do nothing apart from rape money from wallets.

    We've seen it all before.

    Dear Neil Thompson

If Kinect is more "more compelling" than 3D, why did Microsoft announce a partnership with LG to cross-promote 3D television technology four weeks ago?

More like Microsoft didn't have 3D demo ready for E3, or thought Sony would out-3D them; hence little telling comments by third-parties (e.g. Crisis 2 in 3D on Xbox 360)?
  • Negotiator #14 2 years ago

This guy is so right about 3D, it is way too expensive for everyone but a small amount of gamers and lets be honest it's gonna take 2 to 3 years before it becomes even close to mass market. 3DS is cool but it's a handheld and it's aimed at younger gamers, Kinect is going to become the next big entertainment product for the living room. It won't be too long before we see Kinect products working on PC's and other electronic devices, TV's etc.

MS blew it this year... and last year was all smoke and mirrors.

Just read a editorial on Kinect at IGN, they were concerned that dance party was only decent game and you have to stand when usiing it - you cant play sitting down as the skeletel recognition does not work if you are attached to a seat.

Never know, might buy it for the dance game, but would prefer a BIG game with some depth

I love my Xbox don't get me wrong. But the fact that hard drives and wireless were not an integral part of the console really did irk me at times. Well, still does. And I refuse to buy a wireless adapter for 50 quid. Would rather go through the hassle of using my laptop as a wireless bridge everytime I want to play online. I refuse to be ripped off.

We needed Ellie to come in and "do a Peter Moore" on this boring suit. Ten minutes of my life down the fucking pan.
  • makeamazing #21 2 years ago

I thought the Dance game was really good, but you know what concerned me about that game... that it wasnt using much of Kinect.. but it was using a smoke/mirrors method..

If you dont dance does the character still dance...as it seemed to me, that the character/dancer is not a direct comparison mimicking your moves but you get scored in how close you match the movement.. as if thats the case that would be a bit of a cop out really (though it did look nice).

    Can anyone confirm?

    BORING.
Don't invite him on to waste our time and bandwidth with his recitals again. Good interviewing, Johnny. I agree with #3, that you could have pushed him a little harder on European media on Xbox. The deals are poorer here, and snooty mc suit there, really couldn't care, or offer any kind of equaliser to bring the package value to closer that of the US.

Microsoft must have a factory somewhere, churning these executives out. They're all exact replicas of each other. Even down to the knitwear.
  • Drpwnage #24 2 years ago

Yay dance and casual mini games!. Unless MS embed subliminal messages into NXE the only thing I will be compelled to do is not buy Kinect. In the 12 months since Natal was announced is Wii copycat software all they could demo?
  • Shinetop #25 2 years ago

Why doesn't any video game journalist ever press people on the more difficult issues, like media availability and Live features sorely missing in Europe ever since the 360 was released? Your job isn't to please people from the games industry, dammit.
  • Shinetop #26 2 years ago

Kinect supports voice control... And nobody is suggesting that it's better than keyboards and mice. Maybe you should listen more and interpret less.
  • geeza2020 #27 2 years ago

He looks like an exciting fellow on the pic on the main page, but unfortunately he just spewed a load of corporate spiel as usual. Don't know why EG bother with these interviews, they never get the answers they or we want. The suits are just too well drilled in the art of "Thats a great question, and I'm sure we will have an answer for it soon but blah blah blah blah"

Gloss black, built in wi-fi, grown up hard drive, touch buttons, "silent" running.

Sound a lot like the old "phat" PS3...
