    Funny guys, and insightful.

He admits that Gears 1 probably played better than Gears 2 which I agree with, as Gears 2 was very snakey windy paths and too many set peices (His words).

I thought Gears 2 was more clunky than 1, just seemed a bit more lethargic movement wise...Hope they get imovement faster and more fluid for Gears 3.

Loved his take on Kinect, jumping around molesting a fucking monkey.

    You DoucheBag CliffyB!
  • Bremenacht #5 2 years ago

    Giant electric centipedes - wicked

I like CliffyB. Hope he gets his 10.

    @LeChuckie-
I thought it was cool, and interesting (but each to their own!). When you can identify weakpoints in your games, and plus points in others games, its quite refreshing.
gears3 seems to have quite a long dev cycle, should be worth it.

    Molest-a-Monkey! Brilliant.
  • sneetch #8 2 years ago

Molesting a monkey is never fine! :)

Nice interview, good to see him talk about the way the games have developed, especially glad to hear that the snaking corridors of GoW2 will open up again. The arena areas in the first game were better IMO.
  • Raznilof #9 2 years ago

Good interview! I like how Mr. Bleszinski sounds and words his answers, not all the image that was made up for him.

I would love them to bring back the music from the first one. It sounded so much more in line with the visuals, thick, massive, lumbering...war music. The second one sounded like any Bruckenheimer movie, thin, predictable, uninspired. I really disliked that the music of Maria's "killing" was almost exactly the same as the war speech in the beginning of the game, a little too fascist for my liking; going to war in gears is musically similar to killing your wife when she's no longer "capable"..urgh

Music aside though (my usual pet-peeve) a big thanks to the guys at epic for this fantastic and most of all, FUN series of games.

To me he always comes off as a nice bloke, just your average joe gamer. Why people say he's annoying i have no idea. Looking forward to gears 3 myself, loved the first 2 games, and with the extra development time it can only mean good things, right?
  • Kanselier #11 2 years ago

I like Cliffy for how he speaks his mind. Most gamers understand what he says and how he says it.
  • StooMonster #12 2 years ago

Game is looking good, and a refreshingly candid interview too ... sounds like Epic have undergone a retrospective analysis of the first two gears games, e.g. strengths vs weaknesses of each. Let's hope they've learnt the right lessons and GoW3 is a barnstorming end to the trilogy.

    Dom's man-beard really does rock!
  • andromeda #14 2 years ago

he's unselfconcious and enthusiastic and not afraid to admit when he's wrong. All that to me says , decent guy!

I've worked with REAL FUCKING PRETENTIOUS COCKS during my 10 year spell in London. This city seems to spawn, imageconcious, arrogant twits for some reason.

To me he always comes off as a nice bloke, just your average joe gamer. Why people say he's annoying i have no idea.

He's reinvented himself a bit. A few years back he was much more of a loudmouth. I don't think he really was as arrogant as people wanted you to believe but the way he expressed his enthusiasm could easily be mistaken for arrogance. His "bigger, better, more badass" quote is a good example of this.
  • Lukus #16 2 years ago

He says right a lot, right. I like the sound of the monkey molestation game, right.
  • Lukus #17 2 years ago

Haha. Negged for stating he says 'right' a lot*. Cliffy B fanboys? Who knew!

    *a fact, relatively speaking.

  • GooseUK #18 2 years ago

Other than the fact he says 'right' every 1.5 seconds, I think he makes good points and seems to have a better grip on reality and understanding of games than most developers/producers out there. Right?

    Right.
  • Rubarack #19 2 years ago

I don't get this "get back to Gears 1" attitude, 2 was such a huge improvement on 1 that it seems 3 is destined to be a step backwards.
  • Lukus #20 2 years ago

1 had the better gunplay, or at least, as he points out, the levels were better suited for more interesting battles. 2 was definitely presented better, graphically and set piece-wise but, to me, felt less well structured. More like a series of events tacked together than one long flowing event. The on rails bits were rubbish too.

So Gears > Gears 2. In my opinion.
  • weejok #21 2 years ago

    Molesting a monkey!! lmfao
  • Milkman1 #22 2 years ago

Gears of war 2 sucked. Good thing that he knows that.
  • Sharzam #23 2 years ago

Particularly like his view of the future 'motion control with monkey moliseting' or something like that.

No idea why he attracts hate, actually thought was a very good interview wasnt just hyperbole of oh look how amazing our game is but rather his intreasting take on it.
  • trip919 #24 2 years ago

Refreshingly honest interview – I like him!
  • legendmir #25 2 years ago

the thing i dont like about how cliff seems in this interview is that its in a candid style but everything he says sounds so rehearsed, its like question 1 - perfect answer , q2 perfect answer etc etc etc

hes a marketing hype machine, i want more just normal guy
  • Raznilof #26 2 years ago

@legendmir - He can't win can he.. when he's overly enthusiastic, he's insincere. When he's humble and straightforward, he's giving rehearsed answers.

Man, the guy helped create this franchise, he's part of Epic who gave us unreal, perhaps it's just me, but that's one of my all time favourite games. I think he deserves a little more respect.
  • Keivz #27 2 years ago

I knew there was something I liked about this bloke. Good luck Cliff!
  • mooseman721 #28 2 years ago

I liked 1 and 2. Looking forwaed to 3 alot. I never did understand the whinging about 2, I thought it was cracking. Good interview.
  • Seansy #29 2 years ago

2 had great ideas on the addition side of things, but they never felt well implemented. Don't get me wrong, loved GoW2 and played Horde to death, but the normal mp left me feeling empty. GoW will hopefully be as good as 1 for mp modes all round.
  • Neut #30 2 years ago

So does this mean they'll finally get around to making Unreal 3 once they're finished with this Gears of Wars business?
  • Trafford #31 2 years ago

    Good interview.
    Cliffy seems a bit weary.
  • S.J.Rogers #32 1 year ago

I like that guy, first time i have seen and listened to him and he seems like a very interesting and switched on guy.
  • gamerjohn07 #33 1 year ago

Cliff Bleszinski is the coolest guy in the games industry, and insanely passionate about what he does. I am an aspiring games artist myself and I only hope that 1. I maybe someday get to meet him, 2. become as professional and respected as he is because where he is right now is good standing. No matter how Gears 3 turns out, the series has been EPIC!
