Is the beta live now then? Any idea how long it'll be live for? I want to know whether it's worth buying ODST again for this beta.

The weapons seem to have more 'muscle' in this one. Can't wait to try it on Monday.
  • Killian_UK #3 2 years ago

@VandelayIndustries - that's all and good, but my wife hates the sounds of weapons fire!

Looks good, watched this while listening to Man of the World by Fleetwood Mac, seemed very fitting.
  • muscleblade #6 2 years ago

Looks and plays like Halo alright. I LOVE it.

The singleplayer/coop campaign will be the most amazing thing ever and no other game will be able to match the fun of Halo: reach multiplayer - not even close.
  • Elando #7 2 years ago

Gotta love all the tards who just jump on the "OMG HALOL IS STOOPID!" bandwagon...

Halo is no more generic than Counter Strike or Team Fortress 2 in terms of gameplay. Get over it. If you hate Halo with so much passion, why even comment?

On another note, this guy sucks at Halo...

I had too do a double take when I looked at this video as at first I thought it was just Halo 3. I understand that Halo Reach Multiplayer was going to be similar but not this similar. I guess if u love Halo though u will love this.
  • GaidenZero #9 2 years ago

Can't wait for this!! The sound effects are awesome too :)
  • danmachine #10 2 years ago

...this looks exactly the same as halo 3 the graphic upgrade is so slight its barely noticeable
    very dissapointing
  • Yossarian #11 2 years ago

In order of appearance, here are the things that are new in that video and were not in Halo 3:

Stockpile gametype, Revamped radar, Sprint armour ability, DMR, new medals (Opportunist, Revenge, Assist...), Loadout selection, Jetpack armour ability, Needle Rifle, Focus Rifle, new melee system, an execution animation, and the Plasma Repeater.

Not bad for two and a half minutes of one gametype on one map from the multiplayer beta of a title still in development.

How many times are they going to release the same fucking game,as long as muppets keep buying it i suppose.

It's not like Tribes 2 after all, as that relied heavily on Jetpack combat while this sees a lot less of it. Halo retains its own character.
  • Widge #15 2 years ago

Call me purist, but I think I prefer Halo without the jetpacks. FPS/team shooters in general that way, didn't like jetpacks when they came to Warhawk.

This just shows how long its been since you actually played Halo 3. My son plays it all the time and he was playing it last night. When I watched this vid, it was immediate the change in everything. Lets be honest here. Bungie is not going to change how the game looks since it is part of a series of games which sells millions. Bungie is not going to change up multiplayer to much either since millions of players play Halo 2 and 3 and it would be silly to alienate them.

Can someone tell me where a game series really changed it's multplayer mechanic that it is totally different from previous games. Do not use games that sold like crap and had no choice.
  • RodHull #17 2 years ago

Is there a roadie-rush type thing going on there? Having not played ODST don't know if it's new or not. Looks to be singing from the samel 30 seconds of fun as Halos have so far so can't be bad.
  • irrelevanthuman #18 2 years ago

looks bloody good fun,and the tweaks and additions are certainly whetting my appetite for the beta.
@Widge-I too was a bit unsure about the jetpacks(nothing against jetpacks per se),but judging from the snippets of gameplay coming through, they don't seem to be game-breakers,and indeed add a welcome verticality to proceedings. It all seems nicely balanced so far.
  • Yossarian #19 2 years ago

The jetpack is slower than you'd think, and has a limited (recharging) fuel supply. You use it more as slow, giant jump toward somewhere in particular, rather than just zipping about the sky.

Also, their acceleration is slow, they're quite noisy, and they make you a huge target, especially for the needler and the single-shot weapons (pistol, DMR, Needle Rifle).

Which isn't to say it isn't cool and you can't use them creatively.
  • irrelevanthuman #20 2 years ago

    @Yoss
I was thinking the jetpacks might enable some swift evasionary tactics, but can you shift orientation(and travel in new direction)whilst airborne or is it closer to Halo 3 where you can 'steer' the jump?(albeit only slightly).
  • Skooch #21 2 years ago

This player does suck somewhat, but who cares right, as long as he is having fun!

Halo has just been gone long enough for me to get right into this, this weekend. Lots of fun.
  • Alatair #22 2 years ago

The AR looks way overpowered, the range on that thing was crazy!
  • magicpanda #23 2 years ago

    Autoaimcontrolpadtastic.

It certainly isn't "swift". Think of it like steering a boat in three dimensions. You have to build up momentum to go anywhere fast. And the limited fuel makes that difficult.

I'm making it sound shittier than it is, but just don't expect to go swooping about the place at speed. Nothing puts a sign on your back in the beta like jetpacking wildly across the map.

Edit: except for being the Juggernaut or carrying 10 skulls in Headhunter, anyway.

bet I can get the most negs here.... it looks like halo 3 with a proper hd resolution and some slight aa. And a worse framerate.

    only joking.... sort of...
  • ardamillo #26 2 years ago

Reminds me of Red Faction Guerilla, what with the hammer and the jetpacks
  • Harmonica #27 2 years ago

@Alatair "The AR looks way overpowered, the range on that thing was crazy! "

Looks about the same as usual. Range falls off pretty dramatically at a certain point and it does less damage per hit than most other weapons, but short-medium range you're golden due to the accuracy.

Shotgun+melee is the way to go, anyway.
  • Demiath #28 2 years ago

Cute, but is simpler stuff like Halo a dying breed now that advanced co-op รก la BC2 seems to be the order of the day (you certainly get that impression by listening to Eurogamer or Gamespot podcasts, at least)?
  • TexMurphy01 #29 2 years ago

Hey Rich, how about my Virtua Fighter 3 book? SSM star letter.... still waiting brother.
  • DUFFKING #30 2 years ago

I wonder how many of the people calling this game generic play Call of Duty regularly?

Shooter with tons of play options, weapons and loads of customisability and tons of opportunities for skillful playing is apparently more generic than a bland FPS dependent solely on luck?
