This Q&A might have been better if it was transcribed to text.

Oh christ, as if I wasn't already ashamed enough about how badly I fluffed my questions. Sleep deprivation and lack of preparation do not coherent interesting questions make. Sorry everyone. Still I thought Tom and Ellie gave really good answers to all the questions. Although I think they could have mounted a stronger defence of the jokey interview style, I think more often than not it teases out more interesting information than would otherwise be forthcoming.

@ jonbwfc: Yeah that was one of mine, sorry. Have +1 as compensation. Still at least it got the ball rolling, there was a delay when nobody had their hand up and I dare say my horrible rambling made other people feel good about their questions. They certainly flowed more freely after that so maybe it served some instrumental purpose.

+1 for Ellie's reply about jokey interviews. You can get the party line/corporate messaging crap anywhere else.

Plus, I hate hate hate the fact that writing a comment restarts the video. Especially as the ability to skip to any point in the video seems borked*

The one question I would have asked, had I bothered to hang around after the Conviction piece, is "Are you happy with the timing of the event in the year?"

This is the time of the year when most of the big 2009 games have been (ODST, Forza, Uncharted, FIFA, etc) have been released or are very close to being released (L4D, Creed, MW2) and therefore there is little need for some of those games to be shown.

However, this year is different, with the supposed MW2 effect meaning many big-hitters have been moved into the first 3 months of 2010, so we got to play Mass Effect 2, GOWIII, Dante and a variety of titles that we wouldn't usually see again until just before release. Therefore, by luck more than judgement, this years show became more relevant that it could othewise have been.

But would EG look for an earlier slot in the release calendar in the future?

So basically Ellie is saying that if we're even the least bit interested in the person being interviewed, we shouldn't read the interview? Noted.

Hmm, that was a pretty illuminating interview. I think ye should do more things like this, gives us a better idea where the reviewer's score is coming from. :)

@ woodnotes: No worries, I'm glad someone got some enjoyment out of that train wreck. +1 to you, sir!

I have learnt a lesson from this: never speak again. When I write people can choose not to read but when I speak innocent bystanders get hurt.

I love Ellie's interviews, far better to have something with a sense of humour than yet another bland list of generic questions. The Mark Rein interview was great.

@persus-9

Don't beat yourself up. You were the only one who had the testicles to ask the first question, and the fact you rambled on a bit was actually helpful. It relaxed everyone and meant that you didn't have to have a perfectly formed question to put your hand up.

That was good. I do hope TomB sticks to his view on keeping this site about the text (reviews) rather than branching off in all directions.

It would be nice if they did a little more community stuff too, like adopting a server, or perhaps forming a party to play L4D2 with forum types. Best of all would be sending out preview copies of MP games to EG users, to help pull together MP reviews. :)
