    One nil to the Arsenal!

I wasn't sure about the Vita at first but the more I see the more I like it.

Shooting implementation is pretty cool. The rear touchscreen is an underrated innovation.

That said, tapping to pass looks cumbersome and awkward.

More and more, I have to give Sony credit for understanding that motion control and touch screen control is considerably more viable and satisfying to use when paired WITH traditional controls rather than offered as a replacement FOR traditional controls.

I've never seen the appeal of a control method that involves rubbing your grubby fingers on the screen that your watching, but the rear screen shooting sounds interesting.

Oy, this may well end up being my first FIFA in who knows how many years. Love the rear-toch implementation in particular, that should be a great help!

...level of control...more control than ever...level of control... more control...

However despite the rambling commentary this looks FANTASTIC! Cannot wait.

Apart from the rear screen shooting, this plays and looks exactly like Fifa12 on my Desire HD. The way the video is worded, it makes it sound like touch screen passing/player control is a Vita only thing. Still, great game, and the best football game on a touch device ever. It finally feels completely playable, and that's coming from me who's using on screen analogue stick!

If you use the touch screen you block part of the screen and to use the back touch pad you have to guess where (on the screen) your fingers really are touching... Are these great controls?

Like it or not the best football games that don't use traditional controls are the PES series on the Wii.

Nice control on Fifa... I mean Vita! I mean Fifa!

    Aww bless him :D

Dunno if the touch-passing is necessarily faster/easier than tilting the stick and pressing pass though.

so all you do is touch and the ball goes there. How about the power of the pass?

Just touching the screen while the CPU assists on the power is cheap!
  • Ryze #10 5 months ago

So... now you've coded this - make PSMove optional for pointing passing on the PS3?

...unless it's a crap gimmicky feature.
  • Ryze #11 5 months ago

@ZE_SLB They should allow use of the back touch screen for passing. Maybe they do...
  • Nismo400R84 #12 5 months ago

my only wish for this is they make cross platform as in my brother on is ps3 and me on my psv that would be very cool

Touch to pass: sounds unwieldy when you consider your right hand also needs to hover near the face buttons for other commands. Plus as mentioned, it isn't clear how you metre out the power (and whether it's a cross or ground ball). Sounds like it could be giving up too much control to the CPU, which defeats the point overall.

Rear-touch: sounds like a clever addition when you get your head around player orientation, and imagine you're seeing the goal framework from his perspective. This definitely gives you more control - but again, how is shot power managed? This could potentially be a game-breaker balance-wise if it exploits weaknesses in the goalie AI, but it's great to see something new added to the formula.

Like what I'm seeing here. EA have clearly been given enough advance warning on the Vita specs/design to think the controls through.

I got bored of FIFA after the 2002 iteration, but I know people who buy and play every new iteration so this could be a system seller. Looks neat.

Two excellent uses of touch screen technology. Whilst in most circumstances I would use the traditional controls, sometimes you do want to make passes to player or areas of space that the game is reluctant to allow, so tapping the screen on these occasions is a good idea. And I love the rear touch shooting... if I had a penny for every one on one I've missed on Fifa 12 because I can't place my shots properly, I'd have quite a few pennies.
