E3: Hellgate: London - Gameplay

Published 11 July, 2007 Duration 2:24

A serious chunk of gameplay footage from the MMO based on the London Underground. Not the train service or the hip-hop scene, the yawning chasm to Hell. Obviously.

I don't know...am I the only one who is completely underwhelmed by what we've seen from this so far? I love the setting and concept, but the combat makes it look like an MMO (reminds me of Guild Wars), the weapons lack impact and I'm bored of hitting a button for magic and seeing a burst of blue energy fly out. Going by the preview vids alone it seems really soulless.

    Right with you there.

My first thought was "Haven't they canned this POS yet?" Could theoretically be good, but no, this is tedious identikit stuff. Doesn't even manage to resemble London.

I had followed this really closely and been very interested in ths..till now - that video did nothing for the game - bad animation, sliding over the ground, running when against a wall, very lacklustre lightning animation.. and possibly worse the actual combat looked like it felt extremely clunky. A real shame. This and Conan look to be very dissapointing in the flesh.

where's the visceral impact that jumps out and screams PLAY ME? :(

I'm afraid it's the same story here. The more I see of the game the less excited I become.

    Still waiting for Diablo III

No single sign of first-person? Interesting...

This has gone from a must have to a meh-wait-until-several-reviews in about two videos.

Remember that blur FMV? Wonderful stuff. I remember saying at the time that it's a shame this game will never be like that.

I am rite again! Well done me!

Shame, when I first read about the concept I thought it looked ace. But it does look like guild wars in a bland post-olympic* London now.

    *or post-apocalyptic, if there's a difference.

Well im withholding judgement until reviews start appearing too

Setting an action game in a photorealistic depiction of London is careless seeing as it has one of the highest rates of violent sword and magic crime in the UK.

Damn, I wanted to like this game, but this video doesn't do it any justice.

I like the WoW touches and maybe if it's played online with a load of other people, then it will be much more involving. The only thing I didn't like about the last trailer was the frame rate, but that looks to be sorted now.

Looks crap. I had been mildly interested in this when I last read about it - when it will still in FPS guise, but that video has really done it no favours.

Yay, mindless running about in bland tunnels FTW. Or not.
