Dragon Age: Origins - Gameplay

Published 22 August, 2008 Duration 0:59

A minute of in-game combat action from BioWare's high fantasy epic. Not a lot to excite here, unless you're a big fan of slightly rankling voice acting.

    ...........Oh dear.

Too much camera-control needed. He switches to the archer, the camera centers on him, the monster is out of sight until he adjusts the camera again so he can actually click on it.

    Annoying.

Camera control doesn't seem to bother me as much as voice acting.

Hm, yeah, not great, but it's probably just like in the Bioware games of old, where you can choose a general voice/tone ("naive warrior" etc.) for the main characters for the generic comments - main character might not be fully voice-acted, which I guess is the price you pay for greater charcater customisation options.

Eh, the melee doesn't look as impressive as in KOTOR. Remember how they'd be jumping, avoiding and even having the sparkled parries? Why doesn't Generic Age have that?

The VA is prett annoying, but the gameplay looks fine to me, fine as in I want to play it a lot. ;)

Gameplay is there... I like the background "song".

I am pretty sure it does have all this, and you see glimpses of it in some of the other videos. This video here looks to me like the party is a bit too strong for the monsters to even properly defend themselves.

    "Generic Age"

Ha ha, that made me chuckle. I am sad to say this does look a bit pants. Here's hoping these videos aren't too representative of the final game.

I'm damaged by Bioware's old RPG's. I instinctively tried to drag the camer on that trailer. :-)

And yes, I much prefer the top-down "RTS" view over eg. KOTOR, but it looks to me like they've found a really good compromise here.

This gameplay is actually awesome, but the problem with it is that it WILL get too slow if there are too many encounters. Knowing Bioware right, they will probably sadly fill the game with unnecessary encounters, dragging it down overall.

Moral: If a combat system is good, which this seems to be, don't waste it on too much slow combat.

Btw this game is getting way too much shit just for not being an action shooter as Mass Effect. Stop it damnit >:(
