lol yeah il probably get it but there always seems to be something wrong with dragon age trailers, either they plain suck or you cant watch them due to being choppy as u like.

I think it's Eurogamer's media player than makes it jerky!!!

The trailer looks great.. until you remember that it's a turn based RPG that this is depicting. The actual game looks nothing like this.

Is that Claudia Black? The spider-mage woman?
  • hibee #5 2 years ago

Yeah, that is Claudia Black, she voices one of the party NPCs.

I can't imagine how the trailer could be any less representative of the game (real time rpg with pause, not turn based btw) but it is rather spiffy to watch.

I wish they didn't release any videos. They've just confused and conflicted my excitement for this game.
  • MrWonderstuff #7 2 years ago

It's not a turn based rpg. You can pause the action and assign actions if you wish or just go with the flow. Silly people who dont know what they are talking about.

    Lovely trailer BTW.

It is turn based though. Like Baldur's Gate?

    How do you define 'turn-based'?
From where I am sitting this game certainly isnt that.
  • ChthonicEcho #11 2 years ago

In the world of CRPGs, turn-based can have several meanings. For the sake of simplicity, the most common ones are two: a) chess-styled turn-based, with clearly defined turns; b) real-time turn-based, where there everything happens in real time, yet characters still take turns to varying degrees.

Dragon Age: Origins employs the latter, as far as I know. It'll be similar to Neverwinter Nights (which is similar to Baldur's Gate) in that aspect. You'll also be able to pause the game to assign actions to your character and/or the NPCs in your party.

Also, +1 to hiddenrabir. Half the videos are atrocious, half of them require me to change my pants.

What, no hamfisted sex scene crowbarred in to entice the horny teens?
  • Mo0k #13 2 years ago

Seems like they've changed the music a little bit for the ending sequence. I'm liking the more metal, less industrial feel to it!

See, this is why I don't play fantasy games. It may have Claudia Black in it, but it's still incoherent tripe that's done prettily.

Also, no cricket jokes yet? What's wrong with you people?
  • anomagnus #15 2 years ago

    mkreku

its not turn based, get your facts straight before bad mouthing somethign

Newsflash: pretty much all games are incoherent tripe. Might as well delete the term "fantasy" from your statement and stop gaming altoghether, or continue deluding yourself that scifi/action/whatever game you currently play is not incoherent tripe. ;)
  • mkreku #17 2 years ago

Wow.. Ok, so yeah, your turn-based might differ from my turn-based. Semantics.

My point is that I would have loved this as an action RPG (which is what the trailer looks like) but as a D&D inspired RPG I'm not sure I'm interested. I had a hard time coming to terms with Neverwinter Nights 2, which I also happen to think is turn based.
  • YourMessageHere #18 2 years ago

I've played plenty of coherent tripe, and things that are incoherent but pretty good regardless, and even some things that are neither incoherent nor tripe. None of them were fantasy games though.

    =P
