  • bushwod #2 9 months ago

Does this video contain spoilers? Should I wait till I've played a bit before watching?
  • Danbojones Verified Senior Staff Writer, GamesIndustry International #3 9 months ago

Tom Bramwell in 'rubbish at games that aren't FIFA' shocker. Who knew? (We did.) :)
  • loopy #4 9 months ago

    @Bushwod
I think it will. I'm going to wait until I've actually had a chance to play first... 10 hours to go until unlock on Steam...
  • Mugwum Verified Operations Director, Eurogamer Network #5 9 months ago

There are no cut-scenes or story spoilers in it at all. We were very careful.
  • darc #6 9 months ago

I can't shake the feeling that stealthy and hi-tech is the "right" way to play this game, but it feels so great as a straight-up cover shooter, I think I might have to restart and play it that way.

Really loving the game so far. Brings me back to the glory days of System Shock 2 and Deus Ex 1 on the PC.

The only thing that's bugging me out a little bit is the way they implemented movement when you're behind cover. Often when I try to move left to right - depending on camera angle - Denton will pop his head out of cover instead. I'm sure I'll get used to it, though.

This is great – but you know what would be better? A DF format comparison that's actually published ahead of the game's release so I can make an educated choice about which to buy tomorrow morning when I pop into HMV on my way to work.

    Thank you please.

    @Mugwum

When is the Deus EX Human Revolution DF Face-Off coming online? I really want to know which console version is the best.

DF's been put back to Saturday. It's a marathon game, and in order to do it justice we had to spend a little longer on it than we anticipated. It'll be worth the wait!
  • evilashchris #10 9 months ago

I enjoyed that! Cheers guys! Loved that you didn't spoil any story too.
  • cura #11 9 months ago

doesn't spoil anything storywise, although of course if you want to figure out your own way through the level, then you shouldn't watch it till you play it
  • darc #12 9 months ago

+1 @FatsoJensen. I basically flipped a coin and went with the XBox version. Installed to a fast USB drive to help with load times. I'd have preferred the PS3 controller for this game, I think, but I had a hunch the 360 would edge out the PS3 - if only just - in the graphics department. Not convinced I made the right choice, honestly, but no matter, I'll enjoy the game plenty and eventually recover from the RSI's induced by the heavy-handed 360 controller. (Hey, I'm an old man! That left trigger to stick to cover gets heavy after a while!)
  • dragerboy #13 9 months ago

Been playing this today on the Xbox. Not bad. Controls suck though.
  • bf #14 9 months ago

Isn't this a bit early considering that the game is released tomorrow?
  • ISmoke #15 9 months ago

I was on the fence but after reading some reviews and watching this video i'll be buying it tomorrow. Hopefully it unlocks at midnight and not 6pm tomorrow like most Steam games!

    Edit: Spelling

Regular old amazon pre order arrived Wednesday(360), one bit of advice - if a character tells you to get a move on - then don't sit about reading emails. It's def the sequel we've been waiting for. Controls take a bit of getting used to, but when you do it's slick as hell.
  • schnide #17 9 months ago

I'm not watching this. My fingers are in my ears. My hands are over my eyes. That's quite a physical accomplishment I'm sure you'll agree, but one that's worth it so as not to spoil the game in the slightest where it arrives through my letterbox shortly.
  • Snufkin #18 9 months ago

@Porkface - I've already cancelled my PS3 pre-order, replaced it with a Xbox order, cancelled that and gone back to PS3, all down to rumours of control interfaces not being configurable (R1 to shoot? Eugh) and Xbox having framerate troubles later in the game. Sigh. DF is the only source I trust, gutted this is gonna be late....

After reading Eurogamer for going on two years. This video was what finally pushed me into registering an account. No more lurking! Tom Bramwell and Tom Philips are two very funny guys. Your accented spin on Deus Ex had an aussie like me in stitches.

    Looking forward to more Talkthroughs!
  • Demiath #20 9 months ago

Ah, Eurogamer Quick Looks. Finally. I'd appreciate less focus on "pro tips" and more of a "hey, let's check out this game together" approach (although this video admittedly does the latter aspect reasonably well).

Really liked this approach; look forward to something similar for Dark Souls and Skyrim!
  • Vroom #22 9 months ago

Ok. Definitely more of these please.
  • stonecrowe #23 9 months ago

Really liked this video feature, keep em coming please
  • charming_fox #24 9 months ago

Also, this is one of those games that make me feel bad for people that don't play games, they have no idea what wonders they are missing out on! (DXHR being brilliant that is)
  • RawNinjaKid #25 9 months ago

This guy has nothing on Snake and this game has nothing on any game from the MGS series.
  • Das_Ginge #26 9 months ago

    @Rawninjakid

And it appears that you have nothing useful to say... :o)

Enjoyed the talk through and a good job on highlighting just how different getting from A - B can be.

@RawNinjaKid - as much as I love the MGS series, none of them come even close to holding a candle to the original Deus Ex.

    *Sigh* at today's uncultured youth...
  • CaptainKid #29 9 months ago

    Hmm.
I think Deus Ex is one of the best games ever, in fact if it would be remade with better graphics, better AI and some minor tweaks (enemy pressing alarm actually having consequences for the player, not just have two easy killed enemies running towards it (or none at all)) it would be the best game ever.

But I'm not feeling anything when watching this video..

The action bits look really boring, stuck behind cover and the enemy does the same..
Then again, I found Gears of War boring as well.
I don't see the enemies communicate or come up with some kind of plan.
They also didn't in the original but fire fights were usually much faster.

    Brown environment.

Don't like the 3th person for some reason.

The original Deus Ex doesn't come close to any MGS title ethier. It lacks proper voice acting and a proper musical score.
It also suffers from a less interesting script and a suspenseful atmosphere. It's far less artistic overall, if you want to talk about culture!

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is just worse by the looks of it! The only reason I mention this is because in this video walk through, MSG is mentioned and even comparing this setting to the Big Shell; which is insulting!!

  • stryker1121 #31 9 months ago

stealth and hacking are the way to go. Man alive i wanted to hold off on unlimbering the ol' wallet on this right now but EG may have forced the issue.
  • ro-kurorai #32 9 months ago

    @Tom Bramwell and Tom Philips

You guys are really awesome. That funny and witty chatter made the clip pass like a breeze. It was highly entertaining and I'm looking forward to more talkthroughs. You effin' rock.

    Kind regards from Germany.
  • Goodfella #33 9 months ago

Nice video, more of the same for other games please.

On another note a patch has just been released (just for PC I think) that solves some mouse/control issues but more importantly massively improves load times, mine have gone from an average of 25 seconds to an average of 5 seconds (on my SSD), yay!

Edit: Oh, just noticed EG posted an article about the patch *sigh*.

  • webcider #34 9 months ago

It is insulting to compare it to MGS i agree on that.

But only because Deus Ex goal is so much broader it really lets you play the game how you want instead of forcing you to go to Stealth mode as in MGS. There also a lot more varied levels lots of more depth to the areas and how you accomplish getting to the goal through the environment. MGS has no candle on Deus Ex. MGS is like a Arcade game compared to Deus Ex which is a full realised simulated world giving you the player options and choices that matters and conflicts you to choose wisely or face the consequences.
  • brseg #35 9 months ago

yeah, I like this 'talkthrough' format, looking forward to more.
