    I'm a bit confused as to where the actual creation bit is. Maybe I've misunderstood.

    It looks like you determine place, time of day, number of sectors and then the game generates a random track layout, relative to those parameters. Quite how many iterations it will generate based on any given number of parameters, remains to be seen.

    Not full on creation, per se, but potentially, this could lead to an endless stream of randomly 'generated' tracks. Looks interesting, although not quite what I expected.

    Ermmmm, it's no Modnation.....but i'm still getting it ;p
  • RobTheBuilder #5 2 years ago

    Well that was thoroughly disappointing

    "It looks like you determine place, time of day, number of sectors and then the game generates a random track layout, relative to those parameters."

    So you don't design tracks, you design races? And the game then designs the tracks? Not really the same thing is it.

    Well, I'm only going on the info in the vid. Over at GTplanet there's talk of other tabs / parameters that aren't used in this vid, but quite what they adjust remains to be seen.

    It'd be nice if, once the overall layout is defined by the game, you can then tweak corners and sectors to tailor a track to your preferences.

    Personally, I think we'd be pretty daft to expect ModNation lvls of flexibility. Other than the need of PD to want things to always look nice there are probably practical reasons why you're kinda fed layouts. I'd imagine that if we could create any layout we want the game / track could end up unplayable - corners too tight, tracks too narrow, inclines too steep, etc.etc.

    Could there also be LBP style licensing issues? Say some one makes a copy of Brands Hatch do the owners of the circuit have rights for reproduction? I seem to remember Monaco (and others?) being called by alternate names in GT4 (?) Dunno, just a possibility maybe?

    @Ron_Justice

    Hey, I wasn't disagreeing with you. I worded it badly. I was using your post as a statement of the truth, and was agreeing with you, and then making a general statement about the reality not quite matching our expectations.

    @kangarootoo,

    No worries, I didn't take any offence just I just felt like explaining my thoughts a little further. This could well turn into a car crash around lunch time though.

    Its wonderfull for rally races, as kaz said it was too complitcated to let us design tracks. this is fine tbh

    Yeah, I think you can customise the number of sectors, and then per sector how curvy and hilly you want that sector to be, if you want the track to be point-to-point or circuit as well as a number of environment (6-8 apparently), and the length of the track (10km max apparently though). So in the end you can go quite far anyway. I'm not complaining.
  • Earl_G #12 2 years ago

    New tabs seem to get added as they add more sectors, so you'd hope for the ability to customise each sector's character?
  • onyxbox #13 2 years ago

    did you see the speed they used the on screen keyboard... I'm impressed :)
  • Cigol #14 2 years ago

    This video shows the auto-generation of a track. You can alter individual sectors manually, but it's not shown here.

    It's not quite micro machines

    Not quite a good trailer, you can change a lot of parameters in detail for making a more interesting track. On the main screen you can only change weather, time, and number of sectors.

    I think It will be a nice feature, especially for creating random off-road courses. A ModNation-style track designer would be a fabulous thing for the future (GT6 that is). If Forza has that first, I'll kill myself.

    "Yeah, I think you can customise the number of sectors, and then per sector how curvy and hilly you want that sector to be"

    Ah, well that is a little better. The trailer gave the impression that no physical dimensions were under player control. "Curvy" and "hilly" controls are step, even if you don't directly manipulate the geometry.

    I personally don't consider weather effects to be track design. Pretty sure that real world track designers don't write "should be a bit cloudy" at the top of their graph paper :)

    At least it's better than the Event Synthesizer Race from Gran Turismo 2!
  • andromeda #19 2 years ago

    jesus, that resolution doesnt do the game any favours.
