EA bloke #2: It's not on rails. It's a guided camera.
EA bloke #1: Yes, we were careful to frame it that way, but it looks like they don't buy it.
EA bloke #2: I don't understand...we're making the game characters move just the same as normal people like you and me.
EA bloke #1: Perhaps when we show demos instead of trailers it'll be cleared up, sir.
EA bloke #2: Yes, I'm certain of it. OK let's go to this meeting.
They stand in the corridor for a minute in silence staring at something at the other end
EA bloke #2: These red signals sometimes take a long time to change, don't they?
EA bloke #1: Yes sir. Shall I oil your wheels while we wait?

2. a FPS is a game where you shoot things in first person. This is a game played in first person where you shoot things.
Therefor it's a FPS.. End of discussion

Did it fuck! I wish it did, then I wouldn't have got completely lost at a couple of points where I couldn't figure out where to go. Mirrors Edge had total freedom of movement, despite the linear levels.
In fact your comment is so stupid I'm going to admit in advance that I'm not clever enough to detect your super witty irony.

Can we have the normal EA back now. The evil one. These new blokes are worse.

For a good 70 (ish) % of Mirrors edge (i.e. not the warehouse sections where it's easy to get lost) you're pretty much running along set paths laid out by the game designers - and rarely moving from said path.
From what i see watching this trailer.. this isnt your standard "on rails" affair. Not that being on rails is a bad thing - i've always thought a game where you're "on rails" but could move forwards/back/sideways (but no turning) using the nunchuck would be great on the wii

That's linear level design, and something entirely different.
Next week: Black and white. Deceptively similar at the first glance, but together we'll work out the differences.
