Dead Space 1 is already installed waiting for the replay after Christmas before 2 hits. It's hard not installing any games I get in the Steam sale but want January wide open for horror! :)

Looks ace and I can't wait.

Only hope is it doesn't have any.. invincible monsters.

Demo has really sold this game to me. The first was ace and this seems to improve on every aspect. The zero gravity sections were really quite fun this time being able to control your movement 360 degrees.

The demo was great, but is it me, or was the camera really shit? I don't remember the camera in Dead Space 1 whizzing around like that, it almost put me right off playing further. I put the sensitivity up though, that sorted it somewhat. . .there were a lot more enemies too, which sort of marred the atmosphere.

Any way, looking forward to it other than those small niggles. Graphics are awesome too.

    Excellent demo.

"...there were a lot more enemies too, which sort of marred the atmosphere."

I was hoping the focus on action they think DS2 needs wouldn't ruin the game I enjoyed but from the sounds of it they've gone all boring shooter to appeal to the kiddies :(

Still I'll hold on to the hope it's just the demo they picked until my heart is crushed with some RE5alike snoozefest shooter.

Some off the neat graphical effects from the first game are missing, or appear "off".

The plasma cutter is now just a constant crosshair, rather than the depth to the three laser lines as it interacts with the in-game environment as in the first game.

The visor emits an impressive blast of light when the camera is rotated around to look at it, but face a wall, and it barely emits a flicker, unlike the first game.

The running water effect from the small ground level pipes looks extremely poor quality.

And the sudden bum-rush of enemies towards the end of the demo just too away any atmosphere that had been built up. It just became a crazy mad shoot to survive shooting gallery.

Let's just hope it was a one off...

Played the demo on PS3 and 360 last night. The sound is epic - the bit where you are in zero gravity and float upwards got the hairs standing on my neck!

wake me up when a scary horror game is released.

Are you saying that you've never been scared by a game? Or that this game isn't scary? Your post could mean either - if you have been scared by a game, you could tell us what it is and someone is bound to say it's not scary but DS is...different things scare different people. Unless you want to point out that no game has ever scared you?

Anyway, EG are still referring to 'The Scrawl' where they have posted many news articles and videos that point out that the space base on Titan that DS2 takes place in is colloquially called 'The Sprawl'.

The demo showed the game was...OK. Graphically a great game, and they have improved the animation of the Necros, but both lacking little touches to elevate the game. When the hallucination takes place in the cryo chamber, Isaac doesn't twitch a muscle, but when a valve pops he bellows and staggers. Likewise while trying to talk to 'Daina' and not getting through he shouts her name but doesn't express his frustration with any body movement. The cryo section itself is OK but looks too monochromatic. I am fond of the way Killzone 3 uses splashes of ghostly LED colour in the snow sections. And I'd have liked to see a film of white condense on Isaac's suit - think of how Nathan Drake's clothes remain wet-looking after a dip in Uncharted games.

The church shows great art-design, I'm reminded of the 'Evil Church' designs I've seen in Cthulhu-related media. But it's very still. Nothing animates, not even a speck of dust in a shaft of light. It makes it feel a bit flat.

New enemies? Well we've seen various adults monsters and a baby monster, stands to reason a space station would have children monsters. The idea of being mobbed by a bunch of small, weak necromorphs doesn't really 'break' the gameplay established in DS1. We're not yet bringing overpowered weapons to bear on lots of enemies that were hitherto quite strong singly, like we suddenly got in the transition from Resi 4-5.

My greatest worry...Isaac gains a voice and turns out to be a macho-jargon-spewing arse - well maybe not after all. He spoke a bit and he sounded tense and nervous in one part ("How do I go up";) but the textbook American Space Marine, authoritative and moody, in another ("so what now, change of plans?";). Also his one log message was rubbish. He wrote of Daina curing his hallucinations as one might talk of a GP clearing up a chesty cough. Jury is still out on the voice issue.

Right now I'd say the game has 'incrementally improved' but can't yet stand next to the best of the best of this gen's games. But if we get good plot and dialogue, it could become very special. If we get cliche voice acting and overpowered weapons, it could go the other way.

For me the demo didn't really stand out like the first game did - it just felt a bit soft and generic where the first game took a really unique and hard line with it's art direction, it managed to be different from all other video games while still being very recognisable to anyone who likes the odd SciFi movie (ok mainly Even Horizon).

Anyway.. moan moan moan.. I'm fully prepaired to be totally wrong when the game comes out.

edit: and what Fogheart said about the main character

Definite first day buy for me - LOVED the first one.

Demo was a bit of a let down really, no way near as much suspense as the first although the gravity ball room was quite cool.

I absolutely adored the first game, but to be honest the demo really didn't sell me.

I'll still be picking it up regardless though, hopefully the tempo in the demo wasn't what to expect from the entire main game.
